Escaped gladiator Kedric wants revenge on the alien rulers who bred him for blood sport and genetic experiments. Nothing will prevent him from leading an attack on his enemy, not even the irritating–yet arousing–spiritual healer hell bent on stopping him.
Myia holds the power to heal Kedric’s lust for war…if she can control her emotions long enough to soul jump him. But how can the … the shaman-in-training find inner peace when the stubborn warlord refuses her touch and ignites her temper?
When Myia embraces Kedric’s darkest secrets, their destinies unite in a fight to save their loved ones. But victory will demand they surrender more than their hearts.

I enjoyed this book and though I did not read the previous book it did not stop me from understanding this story. I like the idea of a compassionate woman who only wants to heal matched with a warlord. This world is an interesting one where there is a bunch of cultures mixed together seamlessly.

Book two of the The Survival Race series a well written story with a very good storyline. Myia and Kedric’s story kept me turning pages I had to know what was going to happen next. I want to read the next book. I want to see what happens with Tess and Cavy, if both of them find a way to move forward with their lives and if Cavy is really allowed to be free. This series gets more intense with each new book. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

The world building and character development continues in this read full of action and plot. I received a free copy of this book. This review was posted voluntarily.
This novel was excellently written and edited, with beautifully constricted sentences and no typos or editing mistakes that I caught in the ARC version of this manuscript. The world building of both the books in this series is creative and vibrant, with the alien world and it’s different cultures described deftly. The characterization in this novel was excellent, just like it was in the first novel in this series. The hero and heroine were both complicated, vibrant, sympathetic individuals. The development of the romantic relationship in this second novel in this series was also excellent, developing naturally and organically and making me the reader really believe in their love and devotion to each other. That was the one big weakness of the first novel in this series, but the author nailed it in this second novel in the series. The plot and pacing of this novel was exciting and interesting, with me sitting on the edge of my seat close to the end of this novel wondering if the hero was going to allow the heroine to spiritually heal him before he made a terrible decision to start an unwinnable war with the Hyborians. There was a medium amount ot of angst in this novel on the hero’s part, which I enjoyed in a novel where the heroine was a spiritual healer sent to heal his trauma. The angst was caused by the plot and setup of the book and the high stakes in the novel. I can enjoy angst when it is the natural result of high stakes and the setup of a novel. That is one of my preferred narrative structures for a romance novel. I don’t typically enjoy novels with low stakes, or even worse, low stakes AND high angst. This novel employees the Enemies to Lovers trope and the Make Love, Not War trope. The world building, plot, and pacing in this novel rated five stars. The characterization and development of the romantic relationship also rated five stars. The combined star rating for this novel was, therefore, five stars. This novel ends on a Happy Ever After ending instead of a cliffhanger, so that is a big plus to this novel. I recommend this novel to readers who enjoy sci-fi novels or sci-fi romance novels. I think this novel has strong cross-genre appeal, since the author nailed both the genre romance element and the genre sci-fi element in this novel. I plan to buy myself a keeper copy of this novel.
