The Treefolk and Their Special Human
As a fan of Lord of the Rings and Guardians of the Galaxy, I certainly like stories about trees that walk, talk (or grunt), and have adventures. This is one such story. The treefolk are living well away from humans, and they want to keep it that way. A lost little girl stumbles upon them, and havoc breaks loose. In these three books, the little girl becomes friends with some of them but is never accepted by all. At one point, the treefolk need her help, and then in the next book, she needs theirs again. The author used evocative words to describe the trees, like how they moved on their roots to get around and fluttered their leaves and changed their color slightly for dramatic effect. I loved the main treefolk character, who had never met a human before; it was fun to see her try to make sense of this very different human child (walks on two roots, no fur, has red “sap”). I did think Marta was a little too advanced for a 7-year-old. I don’t even think I would know how a reed would sound with a breeze whistled through it, yet Marta seems to know and combines it with another sound in her mind to make sense of how the treefolk sound. All in all, though, I thought this was a fun middle-grade series.

Book one. The Rescue.
In the Enchant Trees village they had regular trees and enchanted trees that could talk, move around and move things with their mind. One day Marta, a human child wanders into the woods. The young treelings want to help her but the older ones are afraid.
This is a creative children’s book that teaches about right and wrong. The narrative is well done, allowing you to visualized the forest and the enchanted trees. The storyline flows well and the characters keep you interested until the end. It is a magical place where ideas are discussed allowing for the expression of fear, kindness, what is best for the group and how to treat a young child who is so unlike them. I really think children will enjoy this story and gain some understanding of coming up with a plan, decision making and working together to problem solve. It is an excellent, extremely creative book.
Book 2, The Remedy
The older enchanted trees are dying from a firebrand beetle infestation. Three young treelings go to Marta’s village in serve for help. But they don’t understand the rules. Can Marta find a cure while trying to keep the treelings safe?
This is the second in the highly creative series about Enchanted Trees. I loved the imagery that the author creates. The sense of drama and urgency are well. The storyline flows well and keeps you engaged until the end. This book promotes the ideas of problem solving, learning right from wrong, acceptance of others and the strength of family.it is a wonderful children’s.
Book 3, Truce
Marta and her dad arrive at the Enchanted Forest to help heal the trees. They run into problems as some of the tree do not want them there and take her dad as hostage. Now everything depends on her success.
This is a great ending to the Enchanted Tree series. This is such a creative series full of interesting characters that are sure to keep children interested in the story. The story flows smoothly and filled with surprises and unexpected twists. There is a lot of lessons for children including, family togetherness, making decisions. critical thinking skills, and making plans and follow through.
