In her early thirties, Elizabeth Gilbert had everything a modern American woman was supposed to want—husband, country home, successful career—but instead of feeling happy and fulfilled, she was consumed by panic and confusion. This wise and rapturous book is the story of how she left behind all these outward marks of success, and set out to explore three different aspects of her nature, against the backdrop of three different cultures: pleasure in Italy, devotion in India, and on the Indonesian island of Bali, a balance between worldly enjoyment and divine transcendence.

Eat was very good. The pray and love – weak.
I just couldn’t relate to the main character in this book.
It is pretty amazing that the author achieved the breakthrough meditation results she reports. I found it hard to read through neurotic miasma and emotional neediness that she admits to carry.
I found this to be a childish saga, by someone who seems to have deep emotional insecurities and problems. It seemed she had unrealistic expectations about relationships and men. I don’t think she has anything whatsoever to offer anyone in this book, unless they might be interested in a somewhat disturbing journey that had seemed to be of no benefit to her at all.
At times sad, but so relatable to those who have been there, whose numbers seem to be increasing. At least it gives one some ideas of how to strike out and do somrthing instead of just wasting time doing nothing.
Horrible book
Boring self indulgence
Too much whining
“Eat, Pray, Love” is on sale. I enjoyed following Elizabeth Gilbert around the world. She’s funny and smart. Take advantage of the bargain.
Well written, but not very believable.
I really loved the book, but if you’re not up to reading it, there was a movie made with the same title. Julia Roberts is the lead actress. I’ve seen the movie, it was brilliant. This is a real life story about the author of the book going through midlife crisis in her thirties after her divorce and she lost her job. Went touring for a year through three countries to learn the language and the culture of the people. She starts in Rome, then to India and ends up on a Indonesian island where she fall in love with her teacher. It’s about rediscovering, steamy affairs, lots of laughter and romance.
Loved the journey of this woman. I admire her strength and courage. Very soul searching.
Boring self analysis. False sense of self-importance. Frankly, who cares?
Boring, so finally gave up and never finished it.
Thought provoking.
I couldn’t finish this book. It didn’t keep my interest
Enjoyed it
