In her early thirties, Elizabeth Gilbert had everything a modern American woman was supposed to want—husband, country home, successful career—but instead of feeling happy and fulfilled, she was consumed by panic and confusion. This wise and rapturous book is the story of how she left behind all these outward marks of success, and set out to explore three different aspects of her nature, against the backdrop of three different cultures: pleasure in Italy, devotion in India, and on the Indonesian island of Bali, a balance between worldly enjoyment and divine transcendence.

I’d give it an 8 on a 10 point scale.
Irritating. Had to skip sections.
Crazy weird parts and long boring descriptions in parts. Needs editing of unnecessary long descriptions.
author is very self absorbed, thought she would never get out of India!
The kind of moralistic/religious pursuits she pursues and suggests will lead you straight to hell. On the other hand, it was a good reminder of what so many “spiritual” people of this day and age believe. It helps me to understand the mindset of those I’m speaking with.
I loved this book. The author, Elizabeth, takes you on a journey of questioning, faith, and healing while traveling to 3 different areas in the world. You will experience all facets of emotion while you embark on this journey through her self discovery. She is a brilliant writer that is entertaining, witty and thought provoking. I highly recommend this book.
