“Don’t go after your sweetheart with your brawn, baby. Go after her with your heart. That’s the biggest and best thing that sets you apart from every other tough guy out there.” (Excerpt- Driving Whiskey Wild by Melissa Foster – Red & Bullet, a mother’s heartfelt words to her son)
Not often do I stumble across the perfect words to describe my feelings, but Ms. Foster made it easy. With a limited amount of words, she summed up the enigma that is Brandon “Bullet” Whiskey. Bullet looked like a warrior, but he had the heart of a champion. I’ve read many Melissa Foster novels and although I have loved all of them, the Whiskeys are my favorite characters of hers. Why? This family proves that a good heart shouldn’t be judged by how you look, but the things you do. The Whiskeys may look tough and at times act tough, but their greatest strength is their ability to love unconditionally. Bullet has to learn to trust his heart when he finds his soulmate. Finlay is his greatest weakness, but she could be his everlasting reward. Not many authors have a direct line to the heart, Melissa Foster has that gift and she does wonders with it.
First impressions were not the truth. A bubbly chef and an alpha bar tender/owner/biker. A lesson in patience and acceptance and listening — going beneath the surface to yield substance. Great story, a romance with determination, and beloved characters from other books are found here, hinting other stories in this series.
I received a free copy of this book via BookFunnel and am voluntarily leaving a review.
I LOVED this book. Finlay and Bullet couldn’t be more opposite. Yet they are absolutely perfect together. This book is filled with raw emotions. While it’s a “motorcycle club” novel, it’s so much more than that. It’s about a truly healing type of love. You really need to read this for yourself!
“Sometimes, like now, (…), he imagined he and Finlay old and gray, riding over the bridge that led out of Peaceful Harbor and off into the sunset on his bike—knowing they’d be coming back over that bridge together.”
I’m so glad book boyfriends don’t get jealous of each other, because it’s becoming hard to choose between these Whiskey men. And the women they fall for are all unique in their own way. And the world Melissa Foster’s created is just perfect, and wraps everything up into the wonderful present that is this series.
“You’re warm sunshine, and I’m a winter storm.”
Bullet is not my favorite Whiskey, but I did love him nonetheless. He’s not apologetic of who he is. He knows what he wants. He protects his family and his loved ones above all else. And he’s broken, coming back from the war with PTSD after what he saw and experienced there. Can you blame him for being a bit guarded about himself? Protective and rough? Or for not allowing anyone in? No, not really.
“You don’t need a pink vehicle to stand out. All you need to do is flash that traffic-stopping smile of yours.”
Finlay seems like the exact opposite of him, except for one thing. She thinks she’s broken too. She lost her boyfriend a few years back, and has tried to keep herself busy, moving away from where she lived to start her own catering business. She’s so feminine in everything she does: her dresses, her pink car, all the details in the food she prepares.
“It’s not like it is with you. Nothing in my life has been like it is with you. Not even close.”
You would think this is an ‘opposites attract’ story, but I think it’s more of an ‘opposites fit together’ story. As usual, Melissa Foster delivers very little angst, but very well-constructed characters that feel real. With real flaws, real thoughts, and real problems. Real regret, and very real guilt, the kind that can ruin your life if you let it.
“You slay my demons and make everything seem possible. I want everything with you, Fins. I want days of riding and nights of making love until the sun comes up.”
Bullet and Finlay met at a wedding that took place in the previous book in the series. He found her physically interesting, and gave her one of the cheesiest lines ever that got me laughing out loud… because, seriously, Taking a ride on the bullet train? The thing is that somehow his interest in her progressed from just physical to noticing her, really seeing her, to wanting her, to needing her. To not ever wanting to let her go.
“I’ve been yours since that very first kiss, and I’ll be yours until my very last.”
At the same time, Finlay never saw herself with the grumpy, detached, somewhat-intimidating man Bullet is. Until one kiss finally happened. And she’s soon to find out you shouldn’t take everything at face value, and Bullet really is everything she needed and never knew she did. He doesn’t talk much, but when he does… Damn! Not only is this man a romantic (even if he claims not to know anything about that, he surely knows how to act accordingly), but a dirty talker, and scorching. And loving. And just… right.
“But now, as he took Finlay in his arms and sealed their promises with a kiss, he realized all that pain had led him to her—and knew he would live through it all over again just to be right there with the woman he loved. His sugar rush. His angel. His everything.”
The path that takes us from heartache and misery to happiness is not always a straight line. In the case of Bullet and Finlay, they went through some serious, heartbreaking stuff. Could it have been easier? Sure, but maybe having it easier wouldn’t have allowed them to finally meet.
What they found in each other was love, the kind that can fix you if you’re broken, or be there to help you stand if you’re only a bit bent. The real kind.
Bullet Whiskey is truly a protector for his family, the bar, and The Dark Knights. As a former Special Force veteran, he lives and breaths to protect. He is a true alpha-badass who doesn’t need frilly, sweet, or sunshine in his life. But he is blind-sided when he meets just that in the form of Finlay Wilson. She is a petite whirlwind of goodness that he can’t stop himself from wanting. She is everything he doesn’t want, but can’t stop himself from needing in his life.
Oh, Melissa Foster, I have a thing for badass, alph-men, and you created one in Bullet Whiskey! And when you had him fall for the girly, girl petite but mighty Finley, WOW! I just loved this story. I loved that the big guy was brought to his knees by the little but mighty girly girl! I can just read this story over and over, well done!
Loved this book!!
Driving Whiskey Wild
By: Melissa Foster
Narrated by: Paul Woodson
Series: The Whiskeys: Dark Knights at Peaceful Harbor, Book 3
I cannot get enough of the Whiskey family! This series is so much fun, and makes my heart full! This one is especially good with Bullet. He is ex-military, has a huge heart and will do anything to protect the people around him. But he has issues. Finlay is new to town, and only there temporarily. As a caterer, she is hired to expand the offerings at the Whiskey Bros bar. But what she finds is so much more. From the very start, this couple is explosive. Bullet is closed off, but there is something about Finlay that makes him more accessible. Finlay is a tough one, full of spunk and ideas, and Bullet is not the kind of man she sees herself with. Until she does, and once that happens, it’s all passion. Foster writes this book with so much compassion and feeling, that I was completely entranced. Dealing with survivor’s guilt, and PTSD is so hard, and she finds the right balance giving us the heart Bullet’s story. And while I completely fell for this couple, I have to say that my favorite character is Tinkerbell the dog! What a puppy! She could not have been more perfect. Add in the Whiskey family and the MC club cameos and I felt right at home in my new found community of Peaceful Harbor. Keep them coming, I love it!
Paul Woodson continues his phenomenal narration of this series. He just gets these characters and truly brings them alive. I love his voice and the way he is able to find that specific emotional pull for each of the characters. He is amazing.

Driving Whiskey Wild was the third book in The Whiskeys series by Melissa Foster.
Bullet Whiskey met Finlay Wilson at his brother’s wedding, previously in the series. They were immediately attracted physically but Bullet was the opposite of everything that Finlay would want in a lifetime mate. He was big, unfiltered, heavily tattooed and too brash. Finlay was syrupy sweet and over the top innocent.
Despite the differences, Bullet kept pursuing Finlay as their paths continued to cross. As such, Finlay kept seeing Bullet’s soft side as they began to develop a friendship. Simultaneously Foster began unraveling some of Bullet’s past trauma that shaped him into who he became today. We also learn that Finlay had a few secrets of her own.
I loved Bullet. He was alpha, protective, loyal, gorgeous, sexy, smart, and troubled. Although Finlay was likable, I like my heroine’s a little tougher and sexier. She was “nun-like” prim and proper to Bullet’s blue collar roughness. However, as the storyline was closing, I began to like her more.
Although it wasn’t my favorite Foster book, it was well written, well developed and enjoyable. It was slow paced for me and I kept getting distracted and putting it down. As a result, I rated it a 3.5; however, this rating site rounds up to a 4.
Foster continued to bring in other support characters, not only from the series but also from her Love in Bloom series. It continued to add depth, but could still be read as a standalone without missing anything. Foster also set the stage well for our next Whiskey brother to fall, Bones, in Wicked Whiskey Love.
I put this on my PopSugar list that I do monthly for a reason. What a wonderful reluctant hero!!!
4.5 Bullet Train Stars!
Oh Bullet, I love you so much! Bullet is ex military, mc member. He runs the family business and no matter how gruff and surly he appears, he has a heart of gold and will risk his own life to save others. When Finlay, who is all flowers and sunshine, walks into his bar, Bullet is not happy. She doesn’t belong there, no matter how fiesty, and determined she is to help them expand their kitchen. Finlay has moved back to town to start her catering business. She needs the money she’ll earn from this job to do that. She easily wins over the Whiskey Bros. patrons with her delicious cookies and appetizers, much to Bullets dismay. Bullet doesn’t want others flirting with her because he wants this sweet, sexy woman, but isn’t sure she can handle his demons. They may look like total opposites on the outside, but Finlay and Bullet are so much alike with their matching scars, inside and out. They are so good together, not wanting to change the other, but love them as they are, and whew, their chemistry is explosive! I love how Foster covered some sensitive topics with such empathy and honesty, she had me in tears at times.
This emotional, and steamy romance was made even better by the rich, deep voice of narrator, Paul Woodson. He did a great job bringing out the complex emotions Bullet and Finlay struggled with. His inflections were spot on and his intonations help to make this romance even more captivating!
This family saga has really captured my heart, and I can’t wait for more from the Whiskey’s!
Driving Whiskey Wild by Melissa Foster Oh. My! I love every book I have read by Melissa, but I have to admit her Whiskey series is the one for me. After Reading Tru Blue and Truly Madly Whiskey, I could not wait to get my hands on Bullet Whiskey’s story and boy did Melissa not disappoint me one bit.
You would think a corny line like ‘Come take a ride the Bullet train’ would be totally laughable (and it is), but for Bullet that straight up is his line to Finlay and you know what, as corny as it may be, if he said to me it would totally work!
Bullet is a big hulk of a guy, but boy are looks deceiving as Finlay soon finds out. She has moved back after losing her boyfriend and father to start a fresh and be near her sister Penny. Tasked with the job of helping redesign the Whiskeys bar she ultimately has to work with Bullet. The two of them couldn’t be more opposite if they tried, yet as with Melissa’s books she is the master of opposite attraction. Bullet and his whole family are bikers who’s father founded the Dark Knights MC, but these bikers are different than the usual term “biker” conjures up. Bullet has the biggest heart and will do anything for anyone and protect his family and loved ones at all costs.
The attraction was instant for both, and with Bullet suffering from PTSD Bullet he not without his troubles, and Finlay has been trough her own fair share of trauma, but these two coming together helps both on them heal.
Another amazing book from Melissa and now I cant wait for Bones story!
Great Story!! Good girl meets bad boy and falls in love BUT WAIT , it’s not that smooth sailing for Bullet & Finley (Lollipop). I LOVE that nickname! This story is sexy, tough, sweet and fun at times and I loved it!
5 out of 5 stars
Bullet and Finlay stole the show! I have loved the Whiskeys in the books I’ve been able to read and Bullet is no different! He is not all muscles and brawn. He’s a sensitive guy looking for the right girl to make his world what he wants. This message to Finlay really makes you think from his point of view:
“I just found you, Finlay. Please don’t let my messed-up life scare you away. For the first time in as long as i can remember, i don’t want to just survive. I want to live.”
This story was well-written. It took me right in and I’ve had a hard time letting it go. The characters are real. Their stories pull at my heart. I want the best for them because they are the best.
This is just more proof that the Whiskeys are the best kind of people? Red’s advice to Bullet when he asked her about love:
“Leading with your heart? Is it supposed to confuse the hell out of you?”
A warm smile lit up her eyes. “Only if you’re doing it right, honey.”
This novel is definitely a must-read for anyone looking for a great story to capture you heart and soul!
*** I voluntarily read a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review ***
I fell in love with this author’s writing & story telling in Tru Blue. It blew me away, and I HAD to know more about the Whiskey family after a certain cameo, had to get more of these stories, wanted more of this writing that was so witty & fun & sweet & beautiful.
Bullet & Finlay’s story is ALL OF THAT & I LOVED IT! Bullet has so many things to work through, but his sense of protection for those he loves is deep and strong, and he takes Finlay under his wing & she becomes family. She becomes his heart. Finlay also needs to heal the cracks in her heart, and Bullet is the perfect salve for her. The ways in which they’re perfect for each other were told so well!
Also, again, the family weaves in & out seamlessly, making me excited to read more stories about them & their town. Much love!! : )
*Five “You lit me up inside, and it’s been a damn long time since I’ve felt anything but darkness. How could I ignore the glow of an angel?” / “You’re my angel, the salve to my wounds. You’re the other half I never knew I was missing.” stars*
To say I love this series would be an understatement. Such a fantastic writing and loved that it was drama free just two damaged people who needed to find their way and to give a chance to love again and to let themselves be loved.
I love Bullet and Finlay. Both were strong, tough and jaded by the past. Since the moment they met there were sparks, chemistry and strong pull. He liked her but didn’t want her to deal with hi demons. I loved the fact that Bullet had a dog and that they helped each other; and the fact that Finlay was trying to be around dogs because of Bullet. Their personalities couldn’t be any different and yet when they are together everything seems right. They just click. Truly meant to be. Loved how their relationship progressed and developed; how open and real they were with each other; so honest and refreshing. He’s Special Forces veteran so gruff, growly, tattooed badass biker with a heart of gold but also protector, vulnerable and a little damaged. She’s sweet and feisty but also vulnerable, strong, resilient. I love the way she stood up to Bullet. They truly complement each other. They found the missing piece in each other. They have a lot of baggage but I love how they support each other through that. Truly beautiful to watch them falling in love and for each other.
I can’t wait to read Bones and Sarah’s book and I’m also excited for Dixie (I love her sassiness and how tough she is).
This is by far my favorite Melissa Foster series and probably book thus far. First of all the hero, Bullet, is a war veteran with PTSD. My husband is the same, so I could really relate and sympathize with him. I absolutely loved the fact that he had a great big old dog named Tinkerbell that helped him with that PTSD. They couldn’t sleep without each other! Bullet carries some heavy memories and guilt with him and sees himself as protector of those he cares about.
Finlay is just a super sweet character. She’s afraid of many things, but steps out of her comfort zone to accept a date with Bullet. His tattoos frighten her, his dog frightens her, his motorcycle frightens her and a lot of times his attitude frightens her. On the other hand–he calls her Lollipop, sleeps with his dog and has a habit of saving people. How can she hold out against that? When their pasts merge together can they overcome the shared trauma and move past it for the HEA they each deserve?
This was a great story by Melissa Foster and a great narration by Paul Woodson!
Can I just start by saying that I might have highlighted the whole book, there were just SO MANY great lines that either made me laugh out loud, stop and think, or tear up. I already loved the Whiskey family from reading TRU BLUE and TRULY, MADLY, WHISKEY, but we don’t get to see too much of Brandon “Bullet” Whiskey, ex-Special Forces and all around broody, I might add SUPER sexy, but yes broody. In walks this streak of sunshine and brightens up his whole world. I don’t think he even knew he was living half a life until she walked into it. Finlay was fantastic. She was a girly girl, but tough enough to stand up to this giant, who she finds out has a heart of gold. What did she say about him…inside he was a marshmallow. I loved all of their moments together, even the small ones. She just wormed her way into his heart/life/head and made him accept her love. GAH…I loved them!
And the sexy times…WHEW!!!!! Melissa Foster knows how to write the hell out of a sex scene! You know, when it’s perfectly described that you literally get lost in the pages and maybe even need a cigarette after (LOL)….yep, that’s a Melissa Foster type of scene! Bullet and Finlay are like gas to a flame, cause when they get together things IGNITE!
If you have not yet started this series, you are MISSING OUT! DRIVING WHISKEY WILD comes out Feb 21st, so you have time for a binge read! Well…what are you waiting for?
Driving Whiskey Wild is the third book in The Whiskey series, and like the prior books, it can be read as a stand-alone. However, after reading this installment you will be hard-pressed to read the other books in the series. The story is a perfect depiction of the adage opposites attract.
The protagonists are the complete opposite of each other. Bullet Whiskey is a hard-core biker, while Finlay Wilson is the sweet and pure heroine. Se fascinated Bullet from the moment he laid eyes on her. Sparks ignited in a flash. However, Finlay was not impressed with the manner in which he approached her. However, the more time she spent in his presence she would learn that one should never judge a book by its cover. In this case, one should never judge a man by the number of tattoos he sports.
Now Bullet is not your typical biker, neither is his family. Bullet is a protector by nature, which we see demonstrated in how he treated his family and members of the community. The fact that he loved animals and children showed he was a softie at heart. Beneath all of this though, lay a tortured soul. He struggles with PTSD as a result of his time spent in the military. Guilt due to events, which took place during his service to his country weighed heavily on his heart. As a result he allowed no one to get close to him until the day he met Finlay. She breached the walls he built around his heart.
Finlay is a determined and courageous heroine, who kept Bullet on his toes. In addition to this, she was sweet but feisty. It is no wonder Bullet was enamoured of her. I admired her strength and her compassion. She is not afraid to speak her mind.
Ms. Foster proved once again why she is my go to author for sweet, spicy and drama free romance. I enjoyed watching the interaction between the characters. They both had past issues that would prove a hindrance to their growing relationship. However, they handled these issues like adults, which proved beneficial in the end.
The story moved at a pace, which I thought, was fitting, not too fast, not too slow. I enjoyed the family dynamics and the banter between all the characters. There was a twist, I never saw coming. I thought it was well done and fitting.
Conclusion/Recommendation
This was a well-written story about love and healing. If you are looking for a romantic story free of drama and angst. If you love romance free of drama and angst, then you will enjoy Driving Whiskey Wild. I cannot wait to get my hand on the next book in the series.
Driving Whiskey Wild is a sweet romance, low on angst but not low on story. It has elements of MC romance, but not super gritty.
Bullet Whiskey is a gruff, alpha biker who is set in his ways and resists change. He has always been the protector in his family, a hero to them and his country but tries to cover up the PTSD that he suffers from since returning from his stint in the military.
Finlay is an absolute sweetheart a complete opposite to Bullet’s roughness. He even calls her ‘Lollipop’. But she is no shrinking violet and stands up for herself with her own sass and toughness.
I listened to this on audiobook with stellar narration by Paul Woodson. I’m quickly becoming a big fan of this narrator!
Driving Whiskey Wild is the third book in The Whiskey’s series but certainly can be read as a standalone. It is the first book in this series that I’ve read and I wasn’t lost at all. It just made me want to go back and read the first and second books. I’ve completely fallen in love with the entire Whiskey Family!
-4.5 Stars!!-
I loved riding the Bullet Train!!! I have fallen in love with the whole Whiskey family. Tru was my favorite, but now I think that Bullet is…his roughness has won me over. Finlay and Bullet had me laughing so much through out the book, but their journey melted my heart. These two are total opposites with lightning attraction to each other which makes this book so good. I loved this one from beginning to end and HIGHLY recommend the whole Whiskey series.
Happy Reading Everyone!!
