Dragon Academy by Devonnie Asher is a wonderful story that I have had the privilege to read. This is book number one in this start to a brand new series written by a brand new author for me to read and I can not wait to read the next book to see what happens. When Kaos tries to get some flowers for her guardian to heal a very sick woman, she finds out where they are. Of course they only grow in a very restricted area guarded by the Royal Guards. Kaos wants to gets the flowers so she know she has to try. Just as she is picking the flowers she hears a crack and finds a baby dragon. She nips her finger when Kaos calls the dragon a HE. She apologizes and gets nipped again. This time she is bonded. She knows it is dangerous to keep a dragon but she has to try. After all, Kaos is not only her name but it is what state she usually has everything in. She gets home but the next morning dragon guards come looking for the baby dragon and Ignimitra calls out to another dragon. Well, she is caught. They find out she is bonded to the dragon and they have no choice but to take her to the dragon academy. This is where she has always wanted to go, but she doesn’t feel prepared for this adventure
She finds out life is not what she believed it would be but she is determined to do her best. If you like the “Dragons of Pern” series I know you will enjoy reading this series.
Ok! I knowwwww everyone is over academy books. They’ve been done time and time again. HOWEVER, this genuinely deserves a try. This academy book is much more mature than most I have read. The main focus is still on relationship building and secret discovering but this is at an elevated level of creativity and imagination. I really loved the dialogue that takes place and felt that the author showed us more than told us, which really makes a lot of bonus points with me.

I truly enjoyed Dragon Academy it was a nice surprise! I love the character dynamic between Kaos and her dragon it was wonderful to see it develop and progress over time as they bonded.
Our MC finds herself with a brand new baby dragon and has to learn how to not only care for it but fight as a rider. To learn all of this, she joins the Dragon Academy where her father was a member of the staff before his death and was one of the few being considered for the position of headmaster. As the story progresses, she stumbles on various secrets that the Academy has worked to hide including information about her father.
This book was very well done in a market flooded with academy books this stands on its own and manages to be original This book had great character development and solid world building which kept it interesting and engaging. The characters are complex and feel authentic it was easy to connect with them as the story moves forward and the pace was very well done. The world-building is very vivid with excellent details that really bring it to life.
I have to say this book really was a page turner from beginning to end! I just could not wait to see what was going to happen next! This book was filled with action, drama and enough suspense to make it completely entertaining. I highly recommend it such a great story!
I received this book from Booksprout for an honest review!

This was an okay book for me. Pretty standard of this type actually. I kept feeling as i was reading that the story was familiar, even though this is first time reading the author. It just felt like this story had been done before, but hey ho.
Basic story line where our heroine finds a baby dragon, somewhere she had no right being. When the Dragon Guard of the area realises and attacks her village, she is outed but soon realises the bit the dragon had given her earlier is a claiming mark. One that gets her to the academy she’s been saving to get to all her life.
Kaos, now finds that the Dragon guard she so wanted to be a part of, may be keeping secrets and deadly ones at that, the further her adventure in training goes. As she searches for information about her father death and his place in the guard, it seems there are more puzzles than ever before.
Will the friends she make and the trust of her dragon be enough in her journey?
Review of copy from booksprout.
It’s rare that I pick up a book and get so obsessed with it I forget to eat and sleep! This is one of them books. This is the first book by this author I’ve read and I’m hooked on this story and cannot wait for book 2 to come out.
*spoilers below*
We meet kao right at the beginning whilst she is trying to steal some rare flowers, instead she find a dragon hatchling who bonds with her instantly. I love how this character is portrayed and I think a lot of readers will be sympathic to her and everything she has been through, she has a dream that seemed to disappear with her parents but she continues to fight for that dream, even risking death by breaking the law and stealing the dragonling. However when she is found out the dragonling inadvertently saves her life and makes her dream come true.
Ignimitra matches kao perfectly and I love the playful relationship.
With a good bunch of supporting characters, (I especially love solra’s obvious attempt at matchmaking) and amazing world building that really makes it easy to visualise what the author was seeing.
I can’t wait to see also where the story goes with kao’s father and the headmaster… And weather he was involved with his death as the author is currently hinting at or weather that will take a twist as well.
I managed to read this book within 24hrs because I couldn’t put it down.

I have found this book absolutely charming. At first I thought that it felt like a book similar to Eragon/Dragon Riders of Pern but only at the beginning and then it develops into its very own that I am not sure I can compare the story to another. The main characters finds herself with a brand new baby dragon and has to learn how to take care of it, fly and fight. To learn all of this, she joins the Dragon Academy where her father was before his death as a member of the staff and was on the short list to be headmaster. As the story progresses, she stumbles on various secrets that the Academy has worked to hide which includes trying to hide information about her father.
Prowling in the Forbidden Ruins, Kaos was on a mission for Hakan to find a rare healing flower for a potion he was being paid to make to save a life. In return, he would split the money with her. She had used a sleep powder on the one lone guard who passed under the tree she had climbed, and he would be asleep for an hour while she searched for the flower. Time was almost out, and she still hadn’t found it. Her dream of buying a spot in Placement School, then Dragon Guard Academy, would be useless because if she failed now, it would take 2 extra years to earn the money and she would have aged-out of the program. Tears burning her eyes, she ran to the last building. In the small room in the back, she found the beautiful flowers – but an odd sound came from them and the flowers began to shake! Instead of an attack, a wet, pale-skinned creature wriggled out of the flower patch. She spoke to it and it ran over to her, opening its eyes – a baby dragon! And at the sound of a horn, she knew the soldier had awakened and was calling for reinforcements! But which way would they be coming from?
The next day, the Dragon Guard showed up in the village! Hakan was terrified. Kaos had overslept instead of leaving in the morning to sell the baby dragon. She had stolen from the Crown and was in serious trouble! A beautiful Majestic Firewing dragon, like the one her father had ridden, landed outside and the baby answered and ran to the window. Moments later, the three Dragon Guards entered her room. She didn’t beg or plead, but told them the baby chose her. They saw her healing hand from the baby’s bite and told her she was dragon-marked, chosen by the dragon to be her rider. But without Placement School training, she knew she wouldn’t last a day at the Academy. Only death could remove the mark and, as the commander approached her, the dragonling jumped protectively between her and the Guards, hissing and roaring! Kaos is taken to the Dragon Guard Academy, totally unprepared for what she will face! Now her adventure will truly begin! Will she survive?
This was an excellent story, very well-written, engaging, and fast-paced. Kaos is a character the reader can love from the start. She is courageous and feisty, full of self-confidence, and proud of her heritage, three generations of Dragon Guard blood flowing in her veins! Her baby dragon is adorable and they have a strong bond right from the start. Grab your copy and be prepared for a wonderful adventure that will pull you right into the story and fill your dreams with flying!
ONE THRILLING ADVENTURE!!!

The characters are complex and authentic with depth and traits that blend and flow, transforming into genuinely relatable personalities. Kaos is saving to attend Placement School then try to attend Dragon Academy. She lives with a guardian since her father died when she was young. Her guardian was asked to make a potion and needs an ingredient that only grows in a protected area. Kaos steals into the area for the flower needed for the potion and finds a baby dragon. Now that you have a little background you need to read this book and find what happens, how she gets into the Academy, more about her father, and will she make it through the 1st term of the academy. I recommend this book and I am anxiously waiting for the next installment in the series. I was given a free copy of this audiobook at my request and this is my honest review.

Dragon Academy (Dragon Tamers of Pyralis, #1)
by Devonnie Asher
I wrote this review based on a copy that the author sent me.
When Kaos Kressin is on a mission to the Forbidden Ruins collecting flowers – Ignatia Flowers to be exact – things don’t go quite as planned and she gets more than she bargained for, a lot more! For inbetween the ” ethereal looking pink blossoms “, emerges a baby dragon, a dragonling who unbeknown to Kaos, fuses with her creating a bond for life. On taking the little creature from the Ruins, her plan being to sell her secretly or so she thinks, her ruse is very quickly discovered and things escalate beyond her control…
Being dragonmarked Kaos is whisked away to become a cadet in the Dragon Academy to follow in the footsteps of her father, a dream she desired more than anything…just two years earlier than expected! Hakkan her guardian who has cared for her since the death of her father and the disappearance of her mother, has no power to stop the ensuing pattern of events. Thrown in at the deep end, she has no other choice but to battle her way through the trials that face her the best she can. Luckily for Kaos, as she is figuring out the indescribable link with her dragon she creates a friendship with two other cadets, Solra and Irikai, the only good thing about the Academy – not to mention the very appealing Captain Larsgard and his impressive dragon Nurik. As her time at the Academy passes, the uncertainty surrounding her father’s death deepens and her life is increasingly in danger but will she be able to survive everything the Headmaster throws at her and live long enough to solve her nagging concerns?
I literally sank into this strong and entertaining read, Kaos only seventeen is a well-rounded character and at such a young age has suffered more than one person would experience in a lifetime! She is very likeable, kind and even though many of the situations are beyond her control, despite the panic that coarses through her, she faces them head on. Dragon Academy is a thrilling combination of fantasy/mystery with just the right amount of romance that keeps you hooked from beginning to end. It is THE place to be to become part of the elite Dragon Guard.
My overall thoughts on this book: Devonnie Asher displays an incredible gift for drawing the reader into this world in such a way that I was present each time Kaos climbed on the back of her dragon, the thrill of dragon flight, hair billowing in the wind – “feeling the wind caress my scalp, tickling my nostrils.” I loved this book from the aspect of Kaos, her personal story then to being joined with Solra and Irikai, each with their very different struggles, the “ scarlet thread of fate had joined them together, three teenagers desperate to change their lives.” Savour the words, let them wash over you and pull you into another world and a thrilling experience.
I give Dragon Academy 5 out of 5 stars – a must read for fantasy lovers, YA and adult alike!
