Kleypas is one of my favorite authors and I read everything she writes. Her characters are all individuals and separate, they are not cookie cutter by any means. This is actually my favorite of the series!! I love how really thoughtful the hero is towards Evie in private while everyone else thinks he’s such a villain.
Well written, beautiful prose, great story!
Her writing and plots have drastically deteriorated over the years. Won’t get sucked into reading another of her books, even if free!
Sebastian may be one of my favorite Lisa Kleypas characters! His evolution at the hands of Evie is intoxicating to read. I’ll read anything she writes, but I read this over, and over, and over again because it always makes me laugh – sorry Sebastian.
Unpopular opinion: Sebastian St. Vincent is an awful hero. He sucks. I’d never date a man like him in real life.
I know, I know, it’s just a book. AND set in the 1840’s. Men behaved differently back then and it was 100% okay. But when has it ever been acceptable for a man to be a total douche canoe? I’d say 100% never.
And yes, I still give …
This is my favorite of the Wallflower series
I love the wallflower series.
This is one of my all time favorite books. The hero presents himself as aloof and uncaring but is all a facade. The heroine is the damsel in distress. Each is them needs the other….financially and emotionally. He is the Devil or is he?
The shining star of the author’s talent to deliver an unbelievable romance
I recommend the entire “Wallflowers” series, but this is likely the best of the bunch, and introduces several spin-off characters Kleypas is still writing about into the next generation. For a step back in time, read “Dreaming of You” to learn more about the gambling dens (Craven’s is featured there); for continuance, see “Devil in Springtime” and …
This is my favorite Lisa Kleypas book. I loved Evie and Sebastian. I really appreciated that the love between the characters developed over time instead of the instant ‘love at first sight” plot that seems to be happening in so many books. I loved Evie’s strength and Sebastian is my favorite bad boy of all time. I hope they continue to make …
My new favorite book.
Love all her books! Some more than others & this one is great!!
Who doesn’t love a story of a reformed rake and a wallflower?
I love Evie! She still so strong. This was definitely a tear-jerker because I felt so strongly for her. That said, the hero was also a great character who really grew as the story progressed. He was a great match for her and they balanced each other wonderfully. I recently reread it and it was even better than I remembered. On my keeper shelf!
Great romance with very appealing hero and heroine!
Lisa Kleypas is one of if not the best writer of historical romance. Her books are exquisitely researched, and she is a compelling story writer. This is my favorite book of hers, but I would recommend that you start the series at the beginning to fully enjoy it. Swoon-worthy like only the best romance novels.
I’ve read the entire series. I’m now a fan of Lisa Kleypas. Really wish I could give it 4.5 only because 5 should be really excellent
Well written, good story line and held my interest. There were the usual misunderstandings between male and female, but not an abnormal amount of pages and pages of sexual detail.
I don’t usually like the historical romances but I like this author and there are recurring characters in her books which I like.
