“From here on out here’s how it’s going to go. I play. You play. Don’t hit on me. Don’t flirt with me. Understood?”Handsome, charismatic, and blessed with a voice that brings thousands of fans to their knees, Trent Donovan is a walking cliché. But he has another thing coming if he thinks he can charm his way into my panties.I don’t care if he’s rich and famous because I’m not here to bag a rock … I’m not here to bag a rock star. I’m here to pave my own way. To prove I belong center stage.
There’s just one problem.
The more time I spend on the road with the band, the more I realize Trent’s nothing like the arrogant playboy I expected. We share a love of music, and if I’m honest so much more.
I came on this tour to follow my dreams, but if I’m not careful he’s bound to lead them off track–right along with my heart.
DETOUR is a standalone, opposites attract, enemies-to-friends-to-lovers, rock star romance.

First time reading for this author…couldn’t put the book down!! Highly recommend to read!
I really enjoyed this rockstar romance, it is funny, steamy and emotional. I loved both characters, despite being a playboy rockstar Trent is a really good guy and I love Lexi feistiness and her strength. The narration was amazing. You can’t go wrong with Jason Clarke and he was perfect as Trent. Lessa Lamb is new to me and I loved her narration for Lexi, there was also the added bonus of Lessa singing. This was an amazing series opener and I’m looking forward to the rest of the series.
I chose this book because the narrators are amazing! It did not take me long to get completely lost in the story. I like the dynamic of the band members. Trent is an awesome book boyfriend, even if he starts out as an oversexed rock star (nothing wrong with abundant sex with consenting adults), but when he meets Lexi the stars align and it’s a beautiful thing! Lexi has baggage and protects herself by building walls. It takes someone like Trent to break down those walls. I really enjoyed the story, the characters, and the romance is hot stuff!
Narration is everything I would expect from my favorites. All of the emotion, the humor, and the evolving love story comes through in beautiful performances by both narrators!
This is my first Kacey Shea book, and I was hooked from the first chapter until the last. I don’t read/ listen to a lot of rockstar romances, not because I’m against them, they just don’t happen to pop up when the mood strikes. I am so glad this book jumped out as I was scrolling my Audible library looking for something to listen to.
Kacey Shea has this wonderful way of writing that is just all-encompassing. She pulls you into the story and holds you captive until the very last word, whilst making you feel every emotion she inflicts on her characters.
Trent is one of those characters that is elevated to book boyfriend status early on. With his rockstar persona, devilish good looks, cocky attitude and how he treats the important women in his life, it’s hard not to be enamoured by him. His heart is what really won me over though.
I love Lexi, she could have done things the easy way but wanted to make it on her own, and I loved that about her. She didn’t have the easiest past and that is reflected in her actions. She’s feisty and doesn’t let Trent and the band walk all over her. Once she let’s her walls down, she builds such great relationships with all of them.
Together they are so good. They have great banter, which I’m a huge fan of. Their sexual chemistry is off the charts and when they finally give in, they’re explosive together. Their give and take really worked for me, and when they loved, they loved wholly. The support they have each other and refusal to let the other push them away really gave their relationship that extra awesomeness.
Although there are a couple of difficult situations, the book itself isn’t angsty and the emotional scenes really worked to enhance the story and the relationship between the couple. The dynamics in the band was fun to experience, and I can’t wait to see more of them in the following books and experience their happily ever afters too.
I chose to listen to this book because I was in the mood for some Jason Clarke, and as always, he didn’t disappoint. He voiced each member of the band so uniquely that it was easy to discern each one. His female voice is one of the best in the business and is showcased so perfectly in this book. He was the perfect choice to voice Trent, the cocky rockstar vibe was strong, but his heart really shone through too. This was my first experience of listening to Lessa Lamb, and she was fantastic. Her voice is easy to listen to, she is able to differentiate the different characters smoothly and effectively. She was a great choice to voice Lexi, an up and coming rockstar with a difficult past. Jason and Lessa’s voices complemented each other well and the transition from one to the other was smooth. There were a couple of tough moments in this book and they were performed to perfection by both voice actors. Their ability to switch from humour to emotional was beautiful and each was delivered so flawlessly. The production was brilliant with no issues.
Rock Star Romance!
Lexie and Trent’s story was amazing, you felt it, yes? it starts off with Trent being a typical rock star sleeping with as many girls he could, but, you see him change and the banter between him and lex, well it fantastically-funny. Lexie has trust issues and daddy ones too, so, seeing her grow in this book, will give you all the feelings, this is a great book and definitely re-read.
Lexi is an up-and-coming musician, who is getting gigs on her own merit by distancing herself from her famous rockstar father. In fact, her parentage is a well guarded secret. Lexi is thrilled when she is invited to open for the hugely successful rock band, Three Ugly Guys, on their upcoming tour. Life is about to get interesting. Trent is the lead singer of the band, and is a manwh*re. He isn’t thrilled about having a ‘girl’ open for them but the record label is insistent. Then he meets the sexy Lexi and figures that life will be good. Except, Lexi is off limit…and she appears to be indifferent about him anyway. This tour should be great! Can Trent wear down Lexi’s resolve and start something or will her emotional baggage be too much to overcome?
This book elicits all the feels…you will laugh, cry, be angry and cheering for this couple. A great piece of literary work. Even if you’re not a fan of this genre, give it a try…this book just may change your mind. The narration team does an excellent job portraying the characters and immerses you in the book and rockstar culture.
I’m looking forward to the next book in the series.
I voluntarily accepted a complimentary copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Rockstar romances are one of my favorite tropes, especially when done right and Kacey Shea has worked her magic with DETOUR. Trent and Lexie’s story is the perfect blend of drama, angst, and all things delicious, unputdownable romance! Kacey Shea effortlessly weaves passion, plenty of feels, and gives us a hero to drool over and a couple to root for!
Narration was performed by Jason Clarke and Lessa Lamb. I was new to Lessa Lamb, but I thoroughly enjoyed her heartfelt and emotional performance. Jason Clarke brought Trent to life perfectly and honestly, I could just listen to that man speak for days! 5 stars.
Lexi is a very strong character. She knows what she wants and refuses to let anything get in her way, including Trent. Ternt is not a typical rockstar. He appears to be, but as more is revealed about Trent throughout the story, we find Trent to be very unique. This is almost an enemies to lovers trope as these two bicker and fight the inevitable. I really enjoyed the banter between Lexi and Trent. This band is as close as brothers, so when they are together, the pranks fly. Lexi is a strong willed heroine that is easy to relate to. Trent is that rockstar everyone wants. I knew I wanted these two to work!
Jason Clarke and Lessa Lamb narrate this story to life. Lessa Lamb brings out that strength that Lexi needs to survive and get what she has worked so hard for. Lessa’s made Lexi relatable and fun. Jason Clarke was the perfect Trent. Jason brought out the two sides of Trent. The one side that Trent showed everyone and the one he slowly let Lexi see. This narration really enhanced the experience of the story.
I didn’t think I could love the Off Track Records series anymore than I already do. I had previously binge read all of them in with little to no sleep and a desperate need for more after every single one. THAT was until Jason Clarke and Lessa Lamb brought two of my FAVORITE characters of the series to life. There couldn’t have been a better pairing for this narration. I knew going in it was going to be good. I hoped I would get that “first reading/listening” feel even though I was familiar with what would happen. This narration did not disappoint it enhanced the experience. It was as though I was getting to experience for the first time all over again. All of the intense emotions Kacey Shea brought forth with the story were exquisitely executed through Clarke and Lamb and added a whole new layer to the listening experience. I may have had to rewind and relisten to certain parts of the book just to hear how amazing they performed their scenes. I am biting my nails waiting or the second book to release.
This book starts out with the male lead being a walking, talking stereotype. He rocked hard by day, and played a little too hard by night. His favorite way to party was having as much sex, with as many women, as he possibly could. He made no apologies for it either. He was good at what he did…on and off stage. He had it all, until she came on tour with his band. Enemies to lovers is one of my favorite tropes. Add musicians to the mix, and I’m a happy camper. The chemistry between Lexi and Trent was smoking, and was bound to combust at some point, it was just a matter of time and stubbornness. The storyline was enjoyable, and the narrators chosen were absolutely perfect. Jason Clarke’s voice is the epitome of sexy, and he portrayed the rock star with ease. Tessa Lamb was a new narrator for me, but her voice was perfect for the role of Lexi, and she quickly showed her skills at emoting so you felt what her character was feeling. Everything was not all roses and sunshine on the tour, but there were many moments to be enjoyed. This is book one in this series, and it laid down a great start to it. I expect great things from the author, Kacey Shea, for the remaining books in this series. I’m also confident that she’s going to deliver. I highly recommend this book and it’s audiobook.
***Audiobook was provided by Author. My review was voluntary and unbiased.***
This one has many ups and downs for me. There were times I had tears in my eyes and other times I just wanted to plug my ears and not listen to what was going to happen next. The story is solid and took me on a path I really didn’t expect.
The characters are different on many levels. First off we have the band…3 Ugly Guys. Trent, Sean, Austin. These boys are a hoot when they are goofing around. They are each sexy, broody and living the rockstar life to the fullest. Then we have Lexi. She is a solo singer. When she joins the tour she adds some zest to the story. She has her secrets and boundaries and let’s not forget her sassy mouth. Some of the things she says and does are funny and surprising.
I did listen to this on audio. Jason Clarke and Leesa Lamb did a good job. Jason was a sexy rock star to a “T”. His vocals we’re spot on for Trent and the boys. Leesa I struggled with a bit. Her vocals in the singing were amazing (Using the double voice) but other times I felt there was an echo. Now if she did that to make Lexi’s voice seem more rough or maybe it was an accident.
Overall this is a story that is a wonderful surprise. I laughed many times and grew to love this crew. I can’t wait for more!
Love the beginning of this rockstar series by the fabulous Kacey Shea. Trent and Lexi ended up being everything I want in a super talented & super sexy couple!! I couldn’t help but laugh at the antics of the side characters, especially Trent’s mom. And cry at some of the difficult things Lexi had to battle throughout this book. I wasn’t sure if I was going to enjoy Trent’s character with some of his man whoring ways in the beginning, but I was happy I stuck it out. Absolutely perfection with bringing Lexi and Trent to life through narration by Lessa Lamb and Jason Clarke.
This is the first book in the Off Track Records Series, an amazing Rock Star Romance! I like the cover. Lexie and Trent’s story is beautifully written, sexy, and emotional. Trent is the singer of the rock band. He is sexy, popular, charismatic, handsome, caring, and supportive. Lexie is beautiful, strong, secretive, and intriguing. I loved to follow them in their journey. The storyline is captivating. The other members of the band are intriguing, and I can’t wait to know more about them. Jason Clarke and Lessa Lamb did an amazing job with the narration. I love their voice together. Looking forward to listen to the next book in the Series, Derail (Sean an Jess’s story). I love these interconnected Series! This is one of my favorite Rock Star romance, and I highly recommend it.
This is by far my favorite book by Kacey Shea! While I enjoy rockstar romances, there are definitely some that make me cringe because there is only so many pages of horn dog groupie sex that I can handle before I find the lead unredeemable and immature. Detour started off a little iffy with Trent full out admitting his favorite thing to eat is pu$$y and his threesome being interrupted by none other than mommy dearest (yikes) but I came to love him so much as the lead character! I feel like Trent and his bandmates, who are equally awesome, are typical up and rising stars in the music world… yes they are immature playboys for being 28 but since this is their first headlining tour I figure they are new enough to fame to still be living it up pretty hard. Lexi is a female musician just trying to get her foot in the door of the music world and amazing lands a gig as the opening act for the Three Ugly Guys tour. I absolutely love Lexi, she is completely ornery and tough on the outside but she is all about the music. While the guys are man whores and live the rock star life, she is solely focused on performing and writing more music. I love the banter and easy friendship between her and all the guys but her chemistry with Trent is off the charts! Trent and Lexi are complete and utter rock star goals and I seriously wished for an amazing duet from them!
The story was great on it’s own but Lessa Lamb and Jason Clarke made it one of my favorites! Jason Clarke’s voice is swoon-worthy voice is deep and sexy, perfect for a panty melting rock star. I have only listened to one other book narrated by Lessa Lamb but she is quickly becoming a favorite. She is the ultimate voice for female rockstars, I honestly don’t know if I could listen to a female rocker audio without her anymore! Lessa’s voice can pull off the innocent girl and the tough as nails badaSS… but what really sets her above the others is the fact that she can sing! I understand why a bunch of narrators read song lyrics in a book because I can’t carry a tune either, but holy cow does it completely add to the moment when the narrator actually sings the lyrics!!
I thought this was a very good book and a great start to this series. The storyline was engaging and held my attention well. It offers a enticing blend of drama, emotion, tension, humor, turmoil, heat and slowly simmering chemistry. Both of the lead characters were appealing. I flat out adored Lexi!! She was fierce and feisty but also had a tender, battle scarred heart. As for Trent, I’ll be honest here and say that he had to grow on me. To start, he appeared a veritable poster boy of the typical, jaded, overindulged and (though I hate to say it) kind of sleazy playboy Rockstar. As the story progresses you do see that there is more to him than all that but I just wasn’t a fan of his initial behavior. Did it fit with the whole Rockstar image? Yes, it surely did. However, I would have felt a lot better about the situation if he had already been past that stage or at least well into the process of wizening up about it all before he met Lexi. In spite of that though, there was no denying the sparks that this couple generated. I enjoyed every interaction they shared whether it was during an exchange of snarky comments or of their sharing a of deeper more meaningful moment, you could definitely feel that intangible something zinging between them. The cast of secondary characters is great and I look forward to reading the other guy’s stories. This audiobook features dual narration, which I am always super appreciative of. I think each of the narrators did an amazing job in bringing the characters and their romance to life. I thought that their voices fit the characters perfectly and that their performance helped to deliver a highly entertaining and quite enjoyable book.
This is my first listen/read by Kacey Shea and I really enjoyed it. The narration was rock star worthy. Trent and Lexi’s chemistry is sizzling hot and their journey will put you through a gamut of emotions. Definitely worth the listen.
****** AUDIOBOOK REVIEW ******
I was absolutely delighted with the audiobook of Detour. The book opens up with a hilariously, hot scene!! It took me a few chapters to stop giggling over it! It did take a bit for me to really like Trent. Since he’s the lead in an up-and-coming rock band, he’s a playboy. The women all love him nearly as much as he loves himself. But he’s about the meet his match in Lexi. She’s a total spitfire and just what he needs to deflate some of that air in his head. Lexi is driven and she is laser-focused on achieving her dreams with only the backing of her voice and words and is hoping her bloodline doesn’t come into play.
FavoriteQuote: “It only takes a few minutes to make someone feel special. Important. And it doesn’t cost a darn thing.”
I could ramble on about the fun storyline with the touch of seriousness. It had me pondering forgiveness and how inaction can hurt just as much as treating someone badly. There were some secondary characters I seriously loved, like Sean and Austin… I’m anxious to hear more about Opal! I struggled liking the mom and felt she made some incredibly poor choices and I feel like daddy dearest should have tried picking up the phone at least once or twice. I’m not sure his intentions were pure when he made zero effort himself… that bugged me! All in all, I think the author created a well developed story that was light and fun, hella hot, with some emotional struggles.
Jason Clarke and Lessa Lamb were just amazing together. I did expect Lexi to have a grittier voice, kind of sexy with punkrocker vibes but that wasn’t the case. This isn’t a bad thing, just me coming in with preconceived notions. Putting that aside though, I really enjoyed Lessa Lamb’s voice. I don’t think I’ve listened to her narrate previously. She sounds absolutely fabulous with the gruff and strong narration of Jason Clarke. One of my favorite parts of the narration was the fact that Miss Lamb’s actually sang the sections that were suppose to be sung. It really sets the narrator apart when they’re willing to show such depth of their methods. I’ll be a lifelong Lessa Lamb lover for her honest portrayal of a rockstar!! Serious kudos to her!! Of course Jason Clark was an amazing as well. I wouldn’t have minded hearing him belt out a few lines of song lyrics either! Maybe next time!
4.5 On Track Stars!
What a great start to Shea’s new Off Track Records series! This is a captivating, sexy, and emotional rock-star romance about the members of the rock band, Three Ugly Guys. They are headlining their first tour and need to bring on a female opening act to soften their image. Lexie is a talented singer/song writer. She doesn’t want to be associated with her rock god, absentee father, wanting instead to make it on her own. She has seen the ugly side of the business and refuses to fall for a musician or be like her mother. Trent is the front man of 3UG and is a total man whore. Despite his carefree rock-star persona, he is thoughtful and caring for his family and those around him. Lexie is off limits to everyone but that doesn’t stop the band from including her in their crazy pranks. They all have an easy rapport and have fun on the road together. But Lexie and Trent have a fiery chemistry that is explosive. No matter how hard they fight their attraction, it becomes impossible to deny. They really have fun together and Trent is so protective of her. But life on the road isn’t easy and when other’s start to interfere, along with Lexie’s past resurfacing, will it all be too much to endure? Shea did a great job weaving a sensual and emotional story that gave me all the feels. It has heart and heat from the beginning to end and I loved it all, especially because of the wonderful narration by Jason Clarke and Lessa Lamb. They were such a great team, with complimenting voices. I loved their tone, inflection, and Lamb’s singing was absolutely beautiful! They really embodied these characters and made me totally fall for Trent, Lexie, and all the band members. I really enjoyed this first book in the Off Track Records series and can’t wait for more from 3UG!
Detour
By: Kacey Shea
Series: Off Track Records 1
Narrated by: Jason Clarke, Lessa Lamb
I love rock band romances and Kacey Shea delivers with her book, Detour. We are following Trent and his band who have been told they have to find a replacement drummer and it has to be a girl. As a compromise, they hire Lexi to be their opening act. Lexi has something to prove. Her estranged father is a rockstar and she wants to show she has her own talent and is taking this opportunity to do it. The band members have been sworn off Lexi, but the chemistry with Trent is to hard to ignore. Or is it? Lexi is not going to make the same mistakes her mother did. And Trent isn’t her father. Where will this go? So much is packed into this story, I don’t even know where to start. Shea writes smart stories and leads us through emotional turmoil, dysfunction, and so much more. Each character is flawed, the banter between the band members witty, the romance a slow burn that makes you ache and there is even songs that are sung! It’s one of those stories that you want to curl up with and relish. I know I did!
Narrated by Jason Clarke and Lessa Lamb, a better team could not have been cast. Clarke is wonderful with his warm voice. He emulates Trent and lets us really see him. And while I love his performance, I was thrilled with Lessa Lamb. She was shining through as Lexi. Every emotion was felt, she was realistic and enjoyable. And she sings! It’s a fantastic listen!

Holy cow, what a book! So much happens that once you start the book you will not want to stop until it is over. The sassy comments with hilarious comebacks will have you giggling and the emotional parts that will have you wishing you were there to give support and have you feeling everything with them. A perfect combination for everyone (over 18) to enjoy. I was lucky enough to get an advanced listener’s copy and have to say that the audiobook is going to be phenomenal! This will definitely be one you don’t want to miss.
