Mya’s world is falling apart. After a series of earthquakes, deadly animals with glowing red eyes begin attacking people and start the spread of a zombie-like plague. Safety is just a memory as she tries to make her way home. When a different creature attacks the people helping her reach Oklahoma City, Mya is sure she’ll never see the light of another day. Despite his eerie yellow eyes and very … and very sharp teeth, the grey-skinned creature is more intelligent and humanlike than he first appears. He’s determined to keep Mya by his side and protect her from the new world’s dangers. When his path starts taking her further away from home, she must choose between safety and her family.

I like this story a lot. It is very entertaining.
Mya’s a college student. After several earthquakes, her world is falling apart as animals with red eyes begin attacking people and start the spread of an infection that is zombie-like. Mya decides to try to make her way home from college to make sure that her family is ok. Some people help her on her way but another creature attacks them leaving Mya sure that she’s going to die.
The grey-skinned pointy-eared creature with green/yellow eyes and sharp teeth seems to be more human then he seemed at first. As the two spend more time together, Mya discovers that he is also intelligent and protective. He tells her he will keep her safe and take her home, but can she trust that he will do as he says?
This is a great introduction to this new series, but be aware that it ends in a cliffhanger! (I hate cliffhangers but since the other books in the series are already out, I will make an exception with this book!) This story had me laughing so hard at parts that I almost cried. There are a lot of feels in this story. It’s very mild in terms of language and sexual content as this is kind of a hi, how are you, please don’t eat me book. I recommend reading this book. Or listening to it!
I own an ebook copy as well as an audible copy.
I could not put it down! I was hooked from the beginning with the story and characters. We meet Mya who is normal college girl and then everything goes down with some simple earth quakes that brings out demons dog hounds who Kill people then then turn zombies. On her quest to get back to her family she witness her companions killed by someone who lookes like human but isn’t . This is where Myas crazy journey starts. She learns his name is Drav and slowly starts learning tru him how this apocalypse started. Drav is they key to Mya questions and her help to get back to her family. The only thing saving her with Drav is that she’s a woman with boobs and apparently in his world there is no such thing. Good job boobs!! Lots of humor! Can’t wait for the next one!
great start to the series
love it , five star book, i do recommend it
quick read
what the hell happened here? first I spend half of the book not understanding anything about the MC’s and when something starts to sink in you cliff me! I need more!
When I read the jacket at first I was hesitated due to end of world and zombies, then I read a few humorous pages and had to have more. I started reading this series after the first 2 was out, so it was a smooth reading from book to book ( didn’t have wait too long in between books). .Very original! Started off from first page to the end grabbing my attention and I was hooked. Lots of action and unpredictable scenes. Wonderful characters, loved Mya and Drav interactions and I have never laughed so hard at times. The books are great, if you love action, fighting, laughter and romance this is for you. Thank you,M.J. Haag and Becca Vincenza.
4.5 stars for Demon’s Ember by M.J. Hagg and Becca Vincenza. This is book 1 in the Resurrection Chronicles. This book was different from others that I have read. I do not normally read post-apocalyptic /zombie books but I am glad I gave this book a chance. Mya is trying to get home after the world seems to be going crazy. She comes across Drav. At first she thinks she is in danger but Drav seems to be protective. I loved these two together. Even though this is a slow, slow burn. Drav seems to hear something in English and then knows and understands what it means. I will say the ipod part had me laughing out loud. I can not wait to see what is to happen with Mya and Drav.
Not your average zombie story
What would you do if everything you knew changed in one evening. Maya’s life changed the night the hell hounds attacked and started turning people into zombies. She’s desperate to see her family again and her hopes of doing so come in the form of an unlikely savoir Dav. Will they find her family or will they become one of the infected.
I can’t wait to read the next book
I normally don’t like to read dystopian type books, and never ever zombie books or movies- definitely not before this book anyway. But I absolutely love this book, it’s my favorite book by MJ Haag/Melissa Haag to date. I’m a huge fan of this author. The events that take place in the story don’t seem so far fetched as to be unbelievable. There’s something about the interactions between Drav & Mya that just pulled me in, made me sigh & wish for a Drav of my own (without a zombie apocolypse though!). Mya seems to be a typical college student, but there’s really so much more to her than a typical college student. Drav, some sort of Demon creature-man, is absolutely endearing with his relationship with Mya (not so much with the rest of the humans he interacts with in this book though). There’s so much still to learn about everything going on in the next 2 books in this series & wondering if Mya will ever be able to reach her family or if Drav will actually leave Mya if she actually does reach her family.
The humor in this book is outstanding for lightening up the mood & the seriousness of the events. I was constantly laughing out loud. Also, even though this was written as a collaboration between 2 authors, I could not see who contributed what to the story, it was seamless, though I haven’t read anything from Becca Vincenza for comparison, I’ve read/own all MJ Haag/Melissa Haag’s books. The flow was smooth & fast, the leading characters are very likable, & has you sitting on the edge of your seat wondering -oh my, what’s going to happen next?! You can see the main characters evolving, slowly becoming friends (maybe even on the verge of more?). When you hit the end of the book, you’ll be mad because you’ll want to keep reading to see what happens next. It is a big cliff-hanger, but the kind that’s worth it, that makes you really want the next book to see where this is going because your hooked & invested in these characters. I totally can’t wait for the next book in this series!
Having read everything by Melissa Haag and Becca Vincenza, I have to admit that this has got to be one of my favorites and on of the best dystopian novels I’ve read of late. Mya and Drav meet during an apocalyptic nightmare, she being human and he being…other. They set about to find her family and make the world right again, running into situations along the way that are devastating and dangerous. They find themselves on the run and not necessarily from the menacing forces that have been unleash on the world. Sometimes, the monsters come from within.
This is a collaboration that was meant to be. The writing styles melded into something fantastic and exciting. It is unlike other zombie apocalypse books I’ve read, and the unusual relationship between the characters is fascinating and mesmerizing. Each of these authors has wonderful works in her own right, and putting them together gives us the beginning to a powerful series. The beginning is nail biting, the middle is spine-chilling, and the end is a surprise that leaves us wanting more. I can’t wait for the next one in the series.
