DIY has a sinister component in historic Apalachicola, Florida
When the local florists find a dead guy in their wall, it opens up a decades-old missing persons case. It also opens up a Pandora’s box of secrets – secrets that might have ramifications for Sheriff’s Office investigator Maggie Redmond.
Maggie and Sheriff Wyatt Hamilton learn that local kingpin Bennett Boudreaux was the primary … Hamilton learn that local kingpin Bennett Boudreaux was the primary suspect in the disappearance of Holden Crawford almost forty years ago, but he had an alibi. The problem is, no one knows what that alibi was. The former sheriff won’t tell, and even Boudreaux himself refuses to say.
When a photograph of Maggie’s own father becomes an important part of the case evidence, learning Boudreaux’s secret becomes even more crucial.
When is going to jail for a murder you didn’t commit preferable to revealing the proof of your innocence? Who is Boudreaux really shielding?
It might be the same person Maggie wants to protect.
Reviews for The Forgotten Coast Florida Suspense series
Okay, I confess – I’m hooked on Dawn Lee McKenna. If she writes it, I’m going to buy it and read it without much thought about it.
Love the stories in this series, and love the characters. I read all I could get and am waiting for more.
Ms. McKenna is a truly gifted writer, especially with her dialogue.
I hope the Forgotten Coast series continues for many, many novels. It’s a heck of a world to get lost inside of, and I really love these characters. But if McKenna kills the rooster, I’ll never forgive her.
Reminded me of HBO’s True Detective with its slightly ominous depiction of southern life.
I must add my praise for this unexpectedly complex book, which I bought because it’s set in a location I’ve loved for years and because I enjoy good mysteries. I’m surprised but very happy to report that McKenna gave me considerably more than I expected.
The dialogue is masterful and her description of Apalachicola is dead-on. You actually feel the humidity and hear the rustle of the palm trees. I was so drawn into the book that I read it in one sitting – I couldn’t put it down.
Taking a chance on a new author and falling in love with their writing style is as cool as discovering a musical group you’ll end up listening to for decades. That is how I felt when I discovered Dawn Lee McKenna’s book, Low Tide. I can see myself reading this author’s books for many years.

Dawn Lee McKenna writes characters and settings with heart. Her beautiful prose takes you there, and you won’t be able to forget her protagonists. The small town setting is full of quirky characters, including an intractable rooster called Stoopid. The mystery unfolds gently, with more of a focus on the setting and characters rather than the mystery itself. If you enjoy small-town romance, clean reads, beautiful prose and quirky characters with depth, you’ll love McKenna’s books.
Dawn McKenna is such an extraordinary story teller, brings characters and locales to life. I want to meet these people and visit these locales! Gifted
This is part of a wonderful series. All the books in this series are fun and interesting reads
I cannot say enough good things about this entire series!! Strongly recommended.
This is a great story, and the surprise at the end is a real shocker!
This book in the series seemed like a rest stop after the faster paced first four books. You can see what is around you more clearly because you are going so fast but you don’t see anything new. The crime in this book is just a prop to go into a little more detail about Maggie’s beginnings. The story is the same story that has been building in the first four books and almost didn’t seem to be needed to continue the story.
Flower shop owners wants to remove the wall, and brick work, that had gotten damaged in the last hurricane. Finding a man murder, is now a case for Maggie and Wyatt. A missing local man about 40 years ago. A key person is Boudreaux, a friend of Maggie’s. For Wyatt and her father, they strongly wished he wasn’t. Is Boudreaux guilty ? He is a person who doesn’t like the past of what he did to come undone. A good plot, and good family story also.
I love all the books in this series.
Dawn Lee is one of my favorites. I would recommend all her books.
I enjoyed this book; perhaps because the locations were quite unusual; much of the story takes place aboard a ‘narrow boat’ on the canal system in London. The book started a bit slow -> but the pace speeded up mid-novel. Overall: articulate prose, interesting characters, believable plot, suspense, not ‘stuffy’ like some British writing.
I like everything this author has written. Unique way of getting you to want more. The only problem, is that I can read her books faster than she can write them.
The first book was so good I read all 9 in the series in rapid succession and then started her next series. Very realistic characters. I wanted to get to know then. I subsequently looked up the town in Florida where it is set and contemplated taking a vacation there. Can’t wait for more
the series is starting to drag. I am going to stop the series
It’s been a while, but I do remember reading and enjoying this book. Really, it didn’t last long enough. Would recommend.
A great series to read!
Thoroughly enjoyed this series
Loved it. Action packed costal .
Great murder mystery series. I’ve enjoyed them all so far.
There were quirky exchanges between the characters, maybe like between Simon Templar and Penny. I was immediately struck by McKenna’s naturalism, reminding me of James Lee Burke. It continued until Maggie mentioned James Lee Burke to her daughter. I suppose it’s not as easy as Burke makes it seem. All in all, it was worth the time.
Just enjoyable to read
