I enjoyed reading this book, the last in this series! It was suspenseful and loved the characters faith! I can’t wait for her new book! I hope it is soon!
Just finished the book and though its part of a series it can be read as a stand alone. Dani Pettrey will catch your attention in the first few pages and keep you turning the page to see what happens next. She’s a master at story telling and you will love the characters. There is a lot of suspense and a touch of romance (which just makes it better). I’ve read all of Dani Pettrey’s books and her writing continues to improve with each book. She brings faith into the story line but she doesn’t harp nor preach to you. However, you might need to stop and think about something in your life and even say a prayer. I know I’ve been praying about something and in one of her books something a character was going through showed me what I needed to pray and helped me. Thank you Dani.
I bought this book through a local bookstore and no one asked me to read nor leave a review. All opinions are my own and my opinion is that Dead Drift is a book to read, enjoy and recommend Dani Pettrey’s books to anyone that loves a good clean romantic suspense.
Dead Drift is an adventurous, mysterious, Faithfilled story. Now isn’t that all what we are looking for? It is a twister of a story for sure. Now, I would be remised if I left out the romance between Luke and Kate – that is the undertow of the whole story. Now they have to overcome the proverbial mountain they must climb to get to that romance – trust and forgiveness. Will they be able to do that while they fight the criminal fight? Will they find true love in each other? Will they follow GOD’s will for them? This is the fourth book in the Chesapeake Valor series and the author, was able to continue on with the other character’s stories along with developing these character’s stories. She did a fantastic job. I received a copy of this book from the Publisher and Netgalley; all of the opinions expressed in this review are all my own.

The final countdown! Can the team stop an insidious terror plot before it can even begin?
Dead Drift by Dani Pettrey is the concluding installment of her Chesapeake Valor series. Fast paced, Dead Drift leads the reader through unexpected twists and turns that will keep you on the edge of your seats, your nails bitten to the quick in anticipation.
The team has been through a lot together; relationships begun and relationships ended. While racing to stop this latest threat, relationships become stronger and some are mended.
Will the team be able to work as a cohesive whole to stop this brilliant terrorist in his tracks?
I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher via Just Read Tours, and am under no obligation to provide a positive review. All thoughts and opinions, therein, are my own.
The final installment of the Chesapeake Valor series ends in a thrilling suspense novel to savor! We finally get to meet Luke Gallagher who’s remained a mystery from the start. He disappeared seven years ago on a secret mission and broke Kate Maxwell’s heart in the process. Back with some chilling news about a biochemical terriost attack on US soil, he once again joins the gang to stop the threat & catch the assassins all while trying to win back Kate’s affection. Will he be successful in both missions or is it too late already?
Fast-paced & gripping, I absolutely loved the edge-of-your seat feel to Dead Drift, as well as getting Luke’s story at last! We now know where and what he’s been involved in for the last seven years. His one regret is leaving Kate for so long when his missions with the CIA took him far away from home tracking down a terrorist. Getting to know the past relationship between them and what they needed to work through was fascinating to learn. I loved how both Luke & Kate fueled each other with their faith in God who would see them through and be by their side no matter what. Watching Luke grow in his faith & prayer life was the highlight for me. There’s also a secondary mystery to solve with Griffin’s sister Jenna’s murder. With the help of his wife Finley, they track down the clues to close this cold case. Pettrey knows how to seamlessly weave these two together to make a story to keep you on your toes and following along with much loved characters. She’s also not afraid to let her faith show in her stories, there’s many reminders of how God will see me through my hard times in life. I admire authors who let the light & love of Christ shine in their books.
If you are like me and enjoy a good Christian romantic suspense to keep you up at night not wanting to miss a moment, this book (plus the whole series) is one I highly recommend! Dani Pettrey is a not-to-miss author.
*I received a complimentary copy of this book from the author and was under no obligation to leave a favorable review. All opinions are my own *
I gave it four stars only because it started out slow. Once you get into the book it is fast moving and a great read. It was great to see what happened in Luke and Kate’s past and to finally see closure for some of the others. It was a great ending for the four friends and their girls.
Brimming with adventure, intrigue, suspense, and romance, Dead Drift is the riveting conclusion to Dani Pettrey’s Chesapeake Valor series. Although it can be read as a stand-alone book, I think it’s more enjoyable to read the series in order, as the characters in the previous books also play large roles in this one. Speaking of characters, Pettrey is a master at creating emotionally layered, realistic ones, which she then throws into all sorts of dangerous, risky settings. It’s a good thing they all have their individual skill sets, because they need them to get out of the predicaments, save the country, and see that justice prevails. I enjoyed the messages of courage, hope, and forgiveness that were woven into the story and added extra depth to it. If you like action-packed, thrill-a-minute, books that keep you on the edge of your seat, this series is for you.
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy from the publisher/NetGalley. All opinions are my own.
I have a love/hate relationship with the last book in a series. I love that all the pieces come together and all my book friends have their happy ending, but I hate good byes. Dead Drift is (in my opinion) the perfect end cap for the Chesapeake Valor series. I read this book in one sitting as I literally could not put it down…so if you start this book at night – be prepared to miss out on sleep! While it’s hard to say good bye to the characters in the Chesapeake Valor series – Dead Drift is a thrilling and beautifully crafted conclusion to the series.
Great ending to her series. Ready for more from Dani Pettrey
Romantic Suspense at its finest. This book is the fourth and final installment of Dani Pettrey’s Chesapeake Valor series. This is Luke and Kate’s story. But it is also a dual story because Griffin and Finley are working on Jenna’s cold case murder. So, it definitely is a page turner with clues and leads and twists. I am a huge fan of this author and have read all of her books. I give this book 4 and a 1/2 stars.
*I was given this book by the publisher Baker Publishing via netgalley. This is my honest opinion.
A great and fast paced conclusion to this series, and yes we do wrap things up, but maybe not how you thought.
If you haven’t read the other books in this series, this one will make you want to, but you can read alone, enough facts are presented.
The author gives us some surprises, but boy the book sure doesn’t lack for action and keeps you guessing as to whom will survive to the very end. There are some very sad moments here, and most you will not see or expect. Great job!
I received this book through Net Galley and the Publisher Bethany House, and was not required to give a positive review.
RIVETING!
Dani Pettrey’s Dead Drift (Chesapeake Valor Book 4) is positively riveting! It may be read as a stand-alone, but for maximum enjoyment and understanding it should be read in order in the Chesapeake Valor Series. Pettrey’s characters are vibrant and realistic. They are endearing because she has allowed her readers to develop relationships with them in her previous books in the series. These characters come across as trusted friends. You would certainly rather have them on your side than tracking you down for any reason! They always get their person of interest – dead or alive! The team grew up together and has been through their own personal tragedies so they are bonded in a deeper way. Pettrey has made this plot unique in that it has a plot and a subplot. She is such a master storyteller that it’s very easy to keep the two plots separated. Pettrey is a gifted writer of romantic suspense and this book is a perfect display of her talents.
I was anxious to get my hands on this book. It’s the fourth book in a four book series, and book three (Cold Shot) was a cliff hanger. I love this book, Dead Drift, it was exciting and tied up the series beautifully. The Series is about 4 men who grew up together and went into law enforcement. Each book focuses on one of them. Dead Drift tells Luke and Kate’s story. Through it all, a gentle faith is woven in. Not preachy, think action heroes that pray. I highly recommend this series and this book. If you read Deed Henderson, Irene Hannon, Vince Flynn, etc., you will love these books. Dani Pettrey is a great addition to that list. I guarantee that this won’t be the last book of hers that you read. Full disclosure, I am on Dani Pettreys review team, but I have not yet received a free copy of this book to review. I purchased the audiobook version as I couldn’t wait any longer.
“Guess we are going to see how well trained you actually are in not letting attachments come into play.”
Being near Kate Maxwell again was just as terrifying as his mission; as a highly trained CIA operative Luke Gallagher’s seven year absence from the woman he loved had changed him forever; the things he had seen, the places he had gone, the decisions he had made. Now he was being called in from the field as a consultant; assisting local and federal law enforcement agencies in their quest to thwart a highly orchestrated chemical warfare attack on the United States. Had “crushing her heart” built an impenetrable wall or could they live to see new dreams come true?
“Barn. Leader. Agent. Handcuffed. Glock. Wrists. Message.”
Griffin McCray’s sister had been murdered as a teenager; now Griffin and his wife Finley were on personal leave from their perspective agencies to see if they could unravel any new clues about the person they believed to be a serial killer. The detective who left the mystifying seven words in his file was now dead, and no one else seemed inclined to consider the accumulation of cold cases as the work of one very demented individual.
Using the many details of both scenarios to her advantage, the author deftly plays the story lines in perfect harmony; keeping her readers on their edge of their seat in just the right places, while warming their hearts with tender moments between beloved characters, managing to close out this series on a very high note.
Dani Pettrey has crafted an explosive (literally an explosion on the first page) and quite enjoyable finale to her Chesapeake Valor series. It kept me spellbound and engaged the whole way through as she weaved satisfying conclusions to both the cold case murder of Griff’s sister and the terrorist threat that the team has been chasing through out the series. I loved the interactions of Kate and Luke and the ending wrapped everything up nicely. This has been a series that has been exciting and engaging for both my husband and I and he has been waiting impatiently for me to finish so he can read it too. All in all, if you love gripping Christian Fiction, read this series. It will NOT disappoint!!
I was provided the book by the author and was not required to post a positive review. All thoughts are my own.
The final book in Dani Pettrey’s Chesapeake Valor series is finally here! The threads of Griff’s sister’s death and Kate’s “missing” boyfriend Luke have been piquing our interest all through the series, and now they finally get resolved! Luke showed up at the end of book 3, “Blind Spot,” and that book ended with quite the cliff hanger. So book 4 starts out teetering on that cliff, and resolution doesn’t come easily.
Once again, Pettrey’s writing kept me on the edge of my seat, wondering what plot twists would show up next. One night when I was getting near the end, I knew I’d better quit reading for the night, or I’d have nightmares! Even though Pettrey’s books are fast-paced, she has a good rythmn of tension/release – the characters, and the reader, have a chance to stop and breathe, for a page or two, after each intense section.
I like the way the characters are developed. They are believeable, and they grow and change through the series, and in each book. They make mistakes, and have to apologize. It will be sad not to get to read more about them!
All in all, this was a very satisfying conclusion to the series.
“Don’t cry because it’s over. Smile because it happened.”
Dr. Seuss
I think this quote perfectly sums up my feelings about this series ending. I’m sad to say goodbye, but thrilled that I got to become friends with these characters and live vicariously through them for a little while! Where do I even begin to describe the amazingness that is Dead Drift?! Kate and Luke’s story was phenomenal!
As with all of Dani’s books I devoured this one in under 24 hours! Dani’s books always knock my socks off, but Dead Drift takes the awesomeness to a whole new level. My old friends Griffin & Finley, Parker & Avery, Declan & Tanner, and Luke & Kate grabbed hold of me and yanked me through the screen of my Kindle and into their story, and it didn’t take long before I forgot I was reading and instead felt that I was tagging along and living their story right alongside them, that is how fabulous this book is!
Once again Dani’s writing thrilled me, chilled me, and inspired me, at the same time it encouraged and challenged my faith, and made a lasting imprint on my heart! I don’t really know what else I can say without risking spoilers, so I will finish with this: I absolutely adored every single moment I spent reading this book, everything was tied up perfectly, and even though I hated to see it end, when I turned the final page a sigh of pure contentment escaped my lips which were temporarily frozen in the giddiest grin of all time! Dead Drift is on my list of favorite reads of 2018, and I highly recommend it! Everyone should read the Chesapeake Valor series, each book can stand alone but they are best read in order to get the full amazing experience!
I simply cannot wait for Dani’s next book! READ DANI PETTREY’S BOOKS, YOU WON’T BE SORRY! Now, if you’ll excuse me! *Goes to reread Submerged yet again*
Thank you to the author and publisher for sending me a copy of this book to help promote it. Which did not influence my review in any way. All thoughts and opinions are one hundred percent my own (except the quote from Dr. Seuss, of course LOL!)
Dani Pettrey did a fantastic job of wrapping up the Chesapeake Valor series in Dead Drift. Luke and Kate’s story is full of drama, suspense and love. Dead Drift is a multi-layered story. It is explosive. It is romantic. You will read of old hurts and current hopes. You will witness the struggle to forgive and how difficult it can be to earn and give trust. You find yourself on the edge of your seat one moment and needing a tissue the next.
One of my favorite aspects of Dani Pettrey’s writing is how her characters intertwine throughout the series. Although each book in the series focuses on a different couple, all of the characters – in the Chesapeake Valor Series, the group of friends – are integral to each story.
Dani Pettrey’s books draw you in and cause you to feel as through the characters are real people and the world you’ve been invited into matters. And that’s because it does. The world in the story mimics our real world. As in the book, our world is broken and in need of redemption. As in real life, we try to fix it all on our own. Through the trials portrayed in the Chesapeake Valor Series we are reminded that redemption, not only individually, but of our world, comes only through God.
Dani Pettrey is a romantic suspense author. All of her books are suspenseful. Dead Drift takes that suspense up a notch. As you follow the multiple storylines, you are drawn more fully into the lives of these characters and what they are going through. The suspense continues to build, and you hold your breath in anticipation of the outcome.
If you’ve read any of my other reviews, you likely know that I’m a stickler for reading my books in order. I feel that it provides a much richer reading experience. I especially recommend that with the Chesapeake Valor Series. You can certainly read Dead Drift as a stand-alone, but there’s so much more to the overall story…so, do yourself a favor and if you haven’t already read the others, start with Cold Shot and enjoy the adventure.
I was provided a copy of this book by Bethany House Publishers in exchange for my honest review. All thoughts and opinions are mine alone.
From the first book in Dani Pettrey’s Chesapeake Valor series, there have been two unanswered questions: Is Luke alive? And what happened to Griffin’s sister?
While that first question was answered in book three (Blind Spot), readers get to delve further into where Luke has been in the series finale.
The entire gang is back, and in Pettrey’s signature style of keeping readers involved in two investigations, Dead Drift is as intense and swift moving as always. As Luke rejoins his friends after years of functioning as a lone wolf, he must learn to lean on them as they hunt for a terrorist on US soil. All that while keeping the woman he’s never stopped loving safe.
I’ve said this before, but it’s worth saying again if you’ve not yet enjoyed a Pettrey book. Each one is much like watching one of the first season episodes of 24 where pieces of the big picture puzzle are dropped into place. With twists, turns and surprises along the way and high-stakes for the entire country, give yourself plenty of time to read this in one sitting.

I received an ARC of this book at #PLA2018 and couldn’t wait to read it! I was eager to see how Luke’s story would unfold. As with the rest of the books in this series, once I started reading, I couldn’t put it down! Dead Drift is fast paced and full of action. Pick the series up from the beginning so you can binge the entire series in one sitting. It’s a beautiful conclusion to the story.
