Good end overall to the series but not my favorite of them. I recommend to try to read this one not too long after previous books or else you might have a hard time keeping everybody straight like I did for a chunk of the book.
Great ending to an awesome series
It’s a race against time…and a deadly killer…
Wow! Just WOW! Dani Pettrey has taken readers on a roller coaster ride before but the Chesapeake Valor series and especially Dead Drift really takes the cake!
I was held captive from the first page to the last as the characters, and readers, finally get the long anticipated answers to both the terrorist crisis, that, by the way, could easily have been ripped from today’s news headlines, and the painful mystery surrounding the murder that has haunted the group of friends for over a decade.
Tense, riveting, and full of surprises, Dead Drift is a powerful conclusion to another amazing romantic suspense series from author Dani Pettrey. While reading this book you’ll run an whirlwind along with the characters as they try to put their lives back together while racing to literally save the world from a group of diabolical terrorists. Yeah, this story really is that action-packed and it’s sure to keep the reader awake late into the night with the promised “just one more chapter…”
(I received a copy of this book from the publisher. All opinions are entirely my own.)
Final book in the series and it was amazing. Dani Pettrey did a great job wrapping up the finale. It was an edge of your seat page turner. The characters were so good . Romance, mystery, action-packed. This was my happy place.
I was given a copy by the publisher. My review is written honestly and the truth is I honestly loved this book & the whole series.
Fans of Irene Hannon and Dee Henderson would love Pettrey’s Chesapeake Valor Series!
I can’t believe this book is the end of the Chesapeake Valor series!! And what an incredible ending to an incredible series! The book packs a punch from the very beginning and the adrenaline just ramps up with each page! I could not put this book down (I was glued to my chair, trembling with excitement throughout my reading that my children actually asked me if I was ok…..) and you won’t be able to either once you start the book.
The story is fast-paced and the plot, even though there are two parallel plot lines, is well-crafted and executed. There are a whole bunch of twists and turns to the plot that make the story layered and quite delicious! The suspense and action in the story are intense, just like Luke and Kate’s love for each other.
Luke is the highly trained black ops agent, capable of completing any mission. Yet he’s broken from having left Kate all those years ago and doesn’t know if he can be forgiven. He also struggles with accepting forgiveness from God for all the job-related actions he regrets. Kate is independent, extremely capable at what she does but hasn’t forgotten her love for Luke. As they reluctantly work together, they become targets of a terrorist and their survival hangs on a balance, even as they try to stop the terrorist from unfurling his plan.
Oh, man, I love the whole gang. If you haven’t read the first three books in the series, reading them in order would be helpful to understand all the nuisances in this fourth and last book. But you can still enjoy the book without having read the first three. If you love high-octane romantic suspense that keeps you on the edge of your seat, this book is a must read!
I received a copy of the book from the author and Bethany House Publishing and was under no obligation to post a positive review. All comments and opinions are solely my own and subjective.
Dead Drift #4 Chesapeake Valor by Dani Pettrey
This last book in the Chesapeake Valor series is the long awaited story of Kate Maxwell and Luke Gallagher. We could feel their love radiating through all three stories even though Luke has been missing in each one of them. Where has he been and what has he been doing all those years?. . .I am not going to say and spoil it. But, oh, what a story he has to tell and the unbelievable dangerous situation he brings right to the door of the Valor-Team (as I call them), setting things into motion that escalate to a race against time. Of the pair, Kate is my favorite character. I love her devotion and dedication to her carrier, yes, but more so for her love for Luke and never giving up on finding him. . .alive.
I like that there is a duel story-line in this one as well. As much as I wanted to read Luke and Kate’s story, I hoped to read about the case Griffin and Finely are pursuing in this story. That case is one that is very special to Griffin and I so wanted him to find a credible lead and thereby a “release/closure” of sorts. I am glad it is included in this book. Not saying more as I don’t want to give anything away. What they uncover certainly was a surprise to them as well as to me.
Dead Drift is a fast-paced, gripping story with mystery and dangerous situations that had me on the edge of my seat at times. A complected plot and story-line with twists and turns, unexpected surprises along the way, unraveling twisting threads of secrets, lies and betrayal while on the brink of a biological disaster. . .whew! In the midst of this there is sweet romance—I love how these men love their women!, forgiveness, second chances and faith. I appreciate the faith elements woven within the story-line and series. I will miss the endearing characters in the Chesapeake Valor series. Well done Dani Pettrey!

Dani Pettrey, again gives us a thriller filled with heart pounding suspense.
This well crafted book gives us a cast of characters that work together to stop a megalomaniac terrorist from attacking the U. S. and tracking a serial killer.
We see God’s love, protection and forgiveness throughout the book.
This book is recommended for those that love Christian romantic suspense.
This book is the conclusion of Dani Pettreys Chesapeake Valor series, and in my opinion is the best one. As a top Christian author of romantic suspense, Pettrey does not disappoint her readers with this explosive thriller. Over seven years ago, Luke Gallagher disappeared from Kate Maxwell’s life. Now he has returned and brings with him his passion for her and his desire to stop terrorist Khaled Ebeid. Together with others from the team, Kate and Luke race to discover Ebeid’s evil plan and to stop him before he is able to carry out his massive attack. There is also a sub-plot of Griffin and his wife Finley trying to uncover the murderer of his sister, Jenna, and other women for years. Their dogged determination in the face of immeasurable odds is a testimony to the theme of never stopping, but just to “run the race” that God has given us to run. Since each Chesapeake Valor story has shown Luke in one location and Kate in another, both doing their jobs and both yearning for each other, it was wonderful to see them working together for the same goal. I also enjoyed the fact that Ms. Pettrey focuses on the heartfelt love of the men for the women; this new viewpoint was refreshing. What a great and satisfying read! It will be available at all of your local booksellers on July 3rd, but you can pre-order it now.

This book was actually two different stories that were tied together by the team of people in this series. Each story was introduced in the previous books and they were neatly concluded in this one. There was a lot of suspense while I tried to figure out who the villain was in the one storyline and how the villain we knew about in the other storyline was going to be apprehended.
Stunning conclusion to an amazing series! I’m sad to be saying goodbye to this awesome team. Their investigative skills are exceptional. I love how Pettrey’s characters authentically live out their faith. I devoured this novel in one sitting.
Recommend to readers who enjoy fast-paced, romantic suspense.
I borrowed a Kindle copy from my local library. All views expressed are my honest opinion.
This fast-moving thriller would make a great movie.
LOVE her writing !!!
Readers of Dani Pettrey’s Chesapeake Valor series finally get their chance to discover where Luke Gallagher has been since he disappeared from his friends’ lives. Dead Drift is a wild ride from beginning to end as Luke and his old friends work together (mostly) to stop an imminent attack that could undermine the country. In the midst of all the action and danger, Luke and Kate Maxwell find themselves reevaluating their past relationship and whether they even want to resurrect it. Meanwhile Griffin and Finley may just be close to wrapping up a series of cold case murders that could be the work of a serial killer.
All I can say is “wow!” This book had me furiously turning the pages to see what would happen next while wanting to slow down so the story wouldn’t end. Quite a few breath-holding moments interspersed with a bit of light-hearted dialogue for relief. I always find it interesting when I read about investigative procedure and how it’s really done, especially when the story is not bogged down in too many unneeded details.
Dani Pettrey is a pro when it comes to writing a great suspense novel. I really hate to see this series end but I know I can expect another great book from her soon. If you are a suspense lover and haven’t discovered Dani Pettrey’s books, please give them a try. I don’t think you will be disappointed.
I voluntarily reviewed a copy of this book provided by Bethany House and the author. A favorable review was not required. All views expressed are my own.
This is a fast-paced, gripping, and intense book, the conclusion of the Chesapeake Valor series that follows a group of friends that serve in various fields of criminal justice. I was so excited to read Kate and Luke’s story, especially since he’s been such a mystery from the beginning. This is a series that I think is best read in order, but honestly you could still read Dead Drift on its own and be fine. I appreciate that the author catches the reader up with the characters and their relationships without info-dumping the plots of the previous books, so even if you read this book first, you can still go back and enjoy the stories of the other friends in the previous three books (which are all excellent!)
I loved learning more about Luke and Kate’s relationship from when they were together before his prolonged absence courtesy of the CIA. It showed why they never gave up on each other and made their reunion that much sweeter- after Kate gave him heck to pay, of course 😉 The highly dangerous cases they are working on solving and attacks they are trying to prevent bring them closer together, and also heighten the fears they have of losing each other again. They have issues to work out and also get to know each other again as the changes people they have become- although the important things haven’t changed. They have amazing chemistry, and I also loved the deeper ways they connect, through their faith and supporting each other.
Besides the terrorist case Luke is leading, Griffin and Finley are following up clues from his sister Jenna’s murder, and the two plots woven together create a nice balance and kept the pace cracking along, making the book impossible to put down. With twists and turns along the way and dramatic, nail-biting climaxes, the story wraps up with satisfying conclusions for this group of friends that have become tight-knit and stalwart once again. Highly recommend this book and the entire series!

Dead Drift is the suspense-filled and satisfying conclusion to Pettrey’s Chesapeake Valor Series. If you’ve been keeping up with the series, then I’m sure you are anxious to read about Luke and Katie’s reunion. Will Luke be able to fan the flames of their college love back to life? Have the embers gone cold? Furthermore, will he finally catch Ebeid–the mission that drew him away from Katie some eight years ago?
In true Pettrey style, no story is over just because it was highlighted in a book earlier in the series. I’ve relished reading how Griffin and Finley, Declan and Tanner, and Parker and Avery’s relationships have matured through each book. I also loved the bombshell Pettrey drops in book four; because it drew an interesting connection between Tanner and Luke.
If you haven’t started this series, you could pick it up here, but I highly encourage you to go back to the beginning! Otherwise, you’ll miss out on the rich family-like feel and camaraderie the author develops among the characters. Not to mention, you’d be cheating yourself out of the epic build-up to this memorable finale.
Fun Fact: I received an early reader copy of this book on April 2nd through NetGalley which has given me enough time to read this book twice. Yes, it’s that good!

There are some authors who never disappoint and some highly anticipated books that always live up to their pre-publication hype and Dani Pettrey and Dead Drift fit these descriptions perfectly. I am thrilled that this is the way that Pettrey has chosen to end the Chesapeake Valor series. Luke Gallagher has finally come home and he and Kate Maxwell are being given a chance to sort out their feelings and resolve some of the issues that two people will have experienced after being separated for seven years. This final book also allows the other characters from the previous three books the chance to deal with Luke’s return. All of them have developed close bonds with each other and their relationships are allowed to play out as they work together to capture a deadly terrorist.
Dani Pettrey possesses a real talent in creating memorable characters and creating realistic interaction among these characters and this is especially true with Luke and Kate. Kate is reluctant to lose her heart again and continues to resist Luke’s efforts to repair their relationship. I love how he “courts” Kate with heartfelt words.
“And it will take the rest of our lives for me to make things right, but please, Katie, give me the chance. I’m only asking for the chance.” (p. 214)
She also pens some powerful prayers that allow Luke to show his Christian beliefs.
“Thank you, Lord, for your patience with me, for never ceasing to love me. Please equip me to serve you wholly. I pray I make it through this mission, and that I get to spend my life at Kate’s side. Amen.” (p. 219)
Dead Drift is the fourth and final book of Pettrey’s Chesapeake Valor series but she has offered enough background in it to keep readers from being lost if this is the first one they have read. The other books don’t have to be read but they certainly deserve to be!
Dead Drift is filled with danger, adventure, conspiracies and nail-biting escapades but most of all, it has an abundance of love, hope, and the reminder that we all are promised God’s love, we are all worthy of forgiveness and we all can experience His Grace and forgiveness!
I received a complimentary copy from Bethany House. All opinions expressed are my own.
What a stunning conclusion to the Chesapeake Valor series! This is a book that definitely needs to be read in order, as book four of a series that builds upon itself.
It was thrilling to return to these wonderful characters as I read Dead Drift. Now, I want to go back and read all four books back to back and catch anything I might have missed the first time around. They really are so good!
Dead Drift was especially touching as it was a “return of a lost love” storyline. Kate and Luke were in love in college and then he disappeared. Now Luke is back and there are some hurts that will be hard to overcome. I thought the author did a great job of showing two people who still loved each other, yet had to battle against the resulting heartache that came from Luke’s long ago decision.
Dead Drift not only had great romantic tension, it also had lots of action taking place in two different storylines. One team was working to diffuse the imminent threat to the nation that brought Luke back into Kate’s life. The other plot involved closing the loop on the ongoing storyline that linked all four books together and involved a serial killer who preyed on young women for years.
This book and entire series is one that I highly recommend for fans of romantic suspense!
I received a complimentary copy of this book. All opinions are my own.
Dead Drift is the thrilling conclusion to the Chesapeake Valor series by Dani Pettrey. This novel includes a dual storyline which adds to it’s edge of your seat page-turning suspense. It’s a race against time for Luke and Kate to stop the threat of biological warfare while Griffin and Finley work to solve Jenna’s murder before the killer strikes again! There’s non-stop action, just the right amount of romance, and all questions will finally be answered!!
Although it can be read as a stand alone novel, I would definitely recommend reading the others in the series first. This is because one of the things I have come to expect and appreciate from a Dani Pettrey novel are her interwoven characters with complex relationships. If you start with Dead Drift, you’ll miss out on some of the characters histories.
I was given a copy of this novel in exchange for my honest review.
Dead Drift is the fabulous fourth addition to Dani Pettrey’s series, Chesapeake Valor. This one is probably my favorite of the series. Kate and Luke finds themselves in quite a bit of action, adventure, danger, mystery, suspense and romance. What a perfect combination for me in a read.
I give Dead Drift a well deserved 5 stars. I’m sad to say goodbye to this series, but look forward to what Dani Pettrey comes up with next. Can not wait!
I received this book from the author, but was not required to write a review. This review is 100% my own honest opinion.
This was a very active, suspenseful and sometimes deadly search for terrorist activities on U.S. soil. The terrorist leader, Ebeid, has a world renown scientist working on a way to spread anthrax on a deadly scale to infiltrate large populous areas. Luke Gallagher has been on the search for the leader for the last seven years through several countries and has now traced him back to the U.S. Kate Maxwell is shocked to see him after wondering where he had disappeared for all those years. She has a hard time forgiving but he must keep her close to protect her. Trying to stay a step ahead of those attempting to assassinate them gets harder and harder.
Married couple Griffin and Finley take some personal time off to search for Griffin’s younger sister’s murderer. They believe they are on the trail of a serial killer. Following clues left by a murdered detective and interviewing various other police officers in different states bring them closer and closer to a very dangerous maniac.
These characters became “friends” to me over this Chesapeake Valor series. They were all brave souls, searching for evil while praying for God to lead them in the right direction and to keep them safe. Tender and caring moments were penned, and I was pleased at the romantic connections found among the pages. Although it’s always sad to have a wonderful series end, I’m looking forward to Dani Pettrey’s new upcoming series, Coastal Guardians.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher/author but was not required to write a review.
