Smokey and his girlfriend, Sturdy’s CEO Laura Hathaway, worry that Laura’s father knew who used that basement and why. Good leg-work investigation… enjoyed it…
This book was an easy read that held my interest. I would definitely consider reading sequels.
Days of Rage is a well researched book about issues that continue to be unresolved. It would make a real contribution to High School or College American History courses..
I tried to get into this book, but it just didn’t get interesting enough to continue. It seemed like it was written by a male author.
Great historic and educational novel on the treatment of Blacks in the mid-20th century. A “must-read” for those born after those times.
History told as if it were today. Made you want things not to turn out like you know they did.
Loved the mix of history and crime.
Great storytelling and good writing overcomes a fairly rambling plot. Events of various eras were cleverly interwoven to create a multi-layered story that seems particularly relevant right now. History certainly has a way of repeating itself.
Enjoyed the book, though it took me a while to get through it.
The writing in this was excellent – strong, believable characters you care about – but the story just plodded along until a very quick roaring climax at the end. It was a very interesting and pleasurable read, just nothing much went on until the last few chapters. If I run across others in the series at the same great price (free!) I got this one I will probably give those a chance too. The Chicago history info was very interesting, but I have no knowledge of whether it was real or fictional, and the ’60s events while factual were mostly a distraction to the story and would have been better omitted.
if any background info was accurate, a sign of the times…very informative and real.
I love the weaving of the storyline around historical events.
This book was not quite what I expected and I had a hard time staying interested. I stuck with it and as I got nearer the end it was better. Just seemed to me characters and story line were hard to follow,
Wow! I’ll be reading more about Smokey.
at times a page turner but a scary read
A very good read. Kept my interest and guessing. I did find it a bit long winded tho, but then I am an impatient reader.
I loved this book, it seemed to be based on fact and I couldn’t stop reading it.
Great historical read
One of a kind. Would like to read others in this series.
Great historical perspective.
Although I lived through this period it was good to be reminded of the events. I liked the twist at the end, I had not figured it out as I usually do. Thanks for a good read.
