What makes a narcissist go from self-involved to terrifying? In this national bestseller, Joe Navarro, a leading FBI profiler, unlocks the secrets to the personality disorders that put us all at risk. “I should have known.”“How could we have missed the warning signs?””I always thought there was something off about him.”When we wake up to new tragedies in the news every day—shootings, rampages, … tragedies in the news every day—shootings, rampages, acts of domestic terrorism—we often blame ourselves for missing the mania lurking inside unsuspecting individuals. But how could we have known that the charismatic leader had the characteristics of a tyrant? And how can ordinary people identify threats from those who are poised to devastate their lives on a daily basis—the crazy coworkers, out-of-control family members, or relentless neighbors?
In Dangerous Personalities, former FBI profiler Joe Navarro has the answers. He shows us how to identify the four most common “dangerous personalities”—the Narcissist, the Predator, the Paranoid, and the Unstable Personality— and how to analyze the potential threat level. Along the way, he provides essential tips and tricks to protect ourselves both immediately and in the long-term, as well as how to heal the trauma of being exposed to the destructive egos in our world.

i love this book!!
i love knowing what may happen, so i can tell if someone is like that or not!!
Info on people in our lives for the naive.
Good to know about our community, better to rediscover yourself if taken with an open mind.
Anyone dealing with a difficult personality should read this book.
A fascinating book based on the decades of observation of an FBI profiler. The author gives myriad examples of things to beware of in dealing with others that may have bad intent in their mind. There are four sections that deal with the major personality types he feels we need to be wary of. Each section has an extensive list of potential characteristics and behaviors that can alert you to the potential dangers of individuals you may be dealing with.
Not crazy about the performance and narrator. He was a little dramatic and the content is more lecture material than a dramatic reading. The content was interesting, though the book got a little boring by the end, due to repetitiveness.
too clinical and too repetitive.
Most of this – the four personalities (narcissist, predator, paranoid, and unstable) – you’ve probably come across. Navarro provides a clear, non-clinical description and offers an analytical checklist of the dangerous personalities. If you find yourself in an ‘uncomfortable’ relationship, this may help you with the analysis and provide the impetus to get the hell out. Recommended.
What could have been an interesting read, is totally boring because of the author’s unimaginative story-telling style. You don’t feel like you want to go to the next page. I returned this book.
Eye-opener. I am faced with narcissistic behavior at work every day.
Again, another book composed of no new information
Good way to tally people’s various traits. There is a lot of overlap in the dangerous ones. I’d like to see a one or two or three page correlation of these traits showing just a synopsis of how they interplay. We are all probably aware of these types of people but we really do need to sit down and plot out what they can do to our lives if we trust too much.
Really excellent. A must-read for anyone who even suspects they’re caught up in a relationship with several major types of toxic personalities. The extensive checklists on each type at the end of chapters provide a very objective means of assessing severity and risk. Our own POTUS, btw, fits one of these personalities perfectly.
Good to have this information when you feel there’s something “just a bit off” with someone you’ve met.
I learned at lot
A good book about this subject and sassy to understend. Borderline is not an easy condition to understand but this book really held to understan.
Wonderfully helpful guide to keeping you and your family safe from people that cause emotional and sometimes physical distress. The checklist to go through with each personality are extremely helpful.
Not technical, but informative and stories are right out of headlines.
As the author notes, this book is written for the layman so is written in plain, easy to understand language. He is forthright in describing people and situations to beware of along with some sensible advice in regards to dealing with personalities that, at the least can be trouble and at the worst can be deadly. The only thing that maybe he could stress a little more (although is not the point of the book) is denial. When we are in denial we are at risk. I would and have recommended this book to others, especially people I know who are at risk because of their history.
A bit repetitive in places, but overall worth the effort.
