He is Earth, she is Air, together they catch Fire….Mariah lives off the grid by waitressing, weaving ghostcatchers to send Hillvale’s ghosts across the veil, and keeping clear of electronics that haunt her—until the day her friend and mentor, Crazy Daisy, is murdered, and Mariah goes on the hunt for a killer. Her prime suspect is geologist Keegan Ives. He didn’t realize that would involve the paranormal until he’s in too deep, and the waitress haunting his days—and nights—reveals that her energy is dangerous, not just to computers but to his peace of mind.

Crystal Magic #3
Evil…is it in the crystals, the soil, the people, the vortex or something else that lurks in Hillvale? It may take a few more books to find out for sure but I am eager to read each and every one of them because each builds on the previous one creating a community of people that pull together, is a bit odd, and has paranormal “Lucys” as well as non-paranormal “Nulls” that populate the town. With murders, avarice, squabbles, mysteries and more to contend with each book provides a bit more of the past as those in the present do their best to be their best while being caretakers of the land and all that is within it so that there will be a future for Hillvale.
In this book Mariah and Keegan, each with secrets, spend time together working to solve some crystal mysteries and manage to thwart evil doers with the help of friends in the community. Characters from previous books make an appearance and well…I had a good time reading and catching up with everyone while watching this unlikely couple find a way toward their own HEA. I am eager to find out what will happen in book four and wonder who will find their partner within its pages.
Did I like this book? Yes
Will I read more in the series? Definitely
Did Keegan and Maria deserve their HEA? Without a doubt 😉
Thank you to the author for the ARC – This is my honest review.
5 Stars
Hmm, a bit of romantic suspense with some fantasy involving crystals imbued with magical powers. Our verra likable hunky hero is fully aware of his paranormal talents and is therefore more accepting of the Hillvale weirdness. The heroine has very valid reasons to be suspicious, but cannot deny her attraction to Keegan. Hey, why should she? Characters from the prevous books play more than background roles, which is nice. However, this can be read as a stand-alone, but why miss out on books 1 and 2?
When Magic Malcolm and Unexpected Magic meets Crystal Magic
I have read a lot of books from Mrs. Rice and my favorites are the books of the Malcolm series. This book of the serie Crystal Magic has the same combination of aventure, mistery and romance as the first Magic series.
What I liked most in the Crystal Vision was seeing a direct descendent of the Ives family in it, and one who accepts his heritage and the odd family gifts. It is the link pin between the other series (Magic Malcolm and Unexpected Magic) and the modern time Crystal Magic.
The other reason why I think this book is the best of the first three is that a lot of the secrets and some of the past history of some “Lucys” and “Nulls” are revealed. It was interesting to learn more about Hillvale and the eccentric people who lives there.
This is the final book of a 3-part series about a small town called Hillvale. It is filled with interesting characters and lots of paranormal activity. This book started a little slower than the other two books in the series, but once the stage was set, the action picked up and it got harder to put down.
I liked Keegan and Mariah. They are both strong characters who are faced with difficult things that they need to accept about the other. This book was also very creative. I really liked that about it. It had a very unique and interesting storyline.
Read the books in order, please. Otherwise, you will miss getting to know the townsfolk of this interesting place. And some of the situations won’t make as much sense. It was a worthwhile series populated by people I wish were real. There are also distant connections to other Malcolm and Ives books written by this same author.
I like all of the characters. They are all a little odd but are working to help their dying town. I was happy to learn Mariah’s story and meet Keegan. When one of their beloved Lucys is killed, the Lucys try to find out who would do such a thing. Mariah is sure that Keegan is a great, big Null. But when she is around him, he centers her. She is so tempted to get on the internet and research Keegan and his family, but she can’t touch a computer. It will only lead to disaster. Keegan is there to look for some journals that went missing from his family’s library, but he can’t let anyone know that. It turns out that he isn’t such a Null after all and he and Mariah join together to not only find the killer, but to find the answer to the mystery of the crystals.
In this story we find out why Mariah is hiding out in Hillvale and see a man pierce her emotional armour. We also catch up with Sam and Walker, Theo and Kurt and many of the other characters met in books 1 and 2. Hillvale is a strange town, with strange people; gradually as the series progresses from book to book we are learning of individuals abilities and their back stories. Whilst this story (like the others) is complete in itself and focuses on a different couple, individuals met in the earlier books are entwined within the story. It is therefore recommended that you read the novels in order of publication.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book from the author. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
