Real-life flight attendant Heather Poole has written a charming and funny insider’s account of life and work in the not-always-friendly skies. Cruising Attitude is a Coffee, Tea, or Me? for the 21st century, as the author parlays her fifteen years of flight experience into a delightful account of crazy airline passengers and crew drama, of overcrowded crashpads in “Crew Gardens” Queens and … Gardens” Queens and finding love at 35,000 feet. The popular author of “Galley Gossip,” a weekly column for AOL’s award-winning travel website Gadling.com, Poole not only shares great stories, but also explains the ins and outs of flying, as seen from the flight attendant’s jump seat.

Interesting read for anyone curious about life as a flight attendant. I was curious about her experiences in today’s hectic world of airline travel as compared to mine in the 1950’s. In those days the job was considered glamorous because of the opportunity to travel, meet famous passengers, domicile in San Francisco and New York City where I shared nice apartments with several roommates. Back then little girls dreamed of being stewardesses or hostesses (TWA). We had strict rules of dress and behavior. The pay was not very good but the time off was a real bonus. The pace was not nearly as frantic as it is today, seats were larger and more comfortable, and passengers were not angry and disgruntled. (Well, only occasionally)) It was not always rosy but dealing with the public usually does have its moments that require a little diplomacy. AND was no hiring of our Mothers! The book was interesting and informative as to how the job has changed. Rude landlords and the constant stream of roommates coming and going with their bed linens is no way to live.
Honest and easy to read. This book is full of insights about the life and work of flight personnel. I’m left with greater empathy for all who work in the air.
A fun read, especially for those with or considering a career in aviation. Written in an early time so not entirely accurate of the current aviation field but none the less an entertaining and whimsical look into the life of a flight attendant.
As a frequent flier, I learned a few things!
Amusing look into this life. Couldn’t do it myself , but can see how it could be an adventure for someone young.
It was nice of her to share the other side of the flying industery
I enjoyed this book. It was smartly written and it really let me understand what these flight attendants have to put up with. I will look at them when I talk to them, something which people often didn’t do, and do what I can to make their job tolerable
Having and interest in commercial aviation, I found the book to be a delightful glimpse into the life of flight attendants. The author writes knowledgeably and realistically about this sometimes glamorous and sometimes not-so-glamorous lifestyle. Anyone interested in this career should probably read this book.
This book was an okay book. It wasn’t as funny as I thought it would be from the little excerpt it gives you before you buy it. It makes me glad that I never had the aspirations to become a flight attendant.
I liked reading about the life of a stewardess. I learned some things about what they have to go through to train for this position. Once you get through training the benefits are great.
Interesting to see inside the life of a flight attendant.
This is a fun read, not a deep one. Easy to pick up, easy to put down, nice for filling up the gaps between one bit of life and the next.
Wish there had been even more crazy stories to make me laugh…
Good inside look at the training that goes into this interesting service career.
I hope I am always respectful and wish someday to have Heather or her Mom walking down the aisles when I ever get to fly again.
amusing book about life in the airline businesses, well written by a stewardess. i enjoyed it !
An interesting look into the lives of airplane stewardesses. She tells funny stories about customers and her life.
I thought it would be more insightful into the daily life of a flight attendant. Was disappointed in the book.
Not sure why anyone would want to be an airline host.
For an easy, entertaining, quick read one may enjoy this book especially if you are on an airplane frequently. It portrays the ins and outs of airplane service and those stories of encounter with passengers and the processes.
Nothing special, but a somewhat interesting read.
For anyone who has ever flown as a passenger on a commercial airline (almost anyone?) this book offers up funny and enlightening stories of what goes on behind the scenes as well as debunking any notion one may have had about the “glamorous life” a Flight Attendant might lead.
