He will tear her life apart one piece at a time, reveling in every flicker of fear in her eyes. He’s grown bored with the games, and he’ll get what he came for no matter how many bodies he has to step over. How will Holly protect the people she loves when her foster brother comes to collect?
I could not put this book down! The suspense kept me wanting more. The torment that Holly has been through in the past and the attitude she faces it with is remarkable to say the least. Her trust in God is overwhelming. When most would have blamed God she drew closer! Will she ever be able to allow Jordan in? Will he, Marx and Sam be able to keep her safe from her tormentor? Moving on to the next series to find out just how long they will be there for her.
An Emotional Wringer
This book had me up and down. It was unexpectedly funny and had some great banter. I laughed out loud a few times. The character development was excellent. There was one section of the book, however, that was very difficult to read. I had to put it down and come back and read it later. There were absolutely heartbreaking moments and some great examples of unconditional love.
Throughout this whole series, there is a message of underlying hope that Jesus is there with us, even in the darkest times. I’m so thankful that there are more books written about Holly and her friends and look forward to starting the next series.
Warning: This book has some difficult scenes to read. If physical, emotional, or sexual abuse is something you cannot read about, this book is not for you.
C.C. Warrens has written a suspense series that touches the heart on many levels. Dealing with stalking and abuse these books are thoughtfully yet realistically written. The author delves into the intense emotions that surround the abused and the loved ones around them.
Holly was shifted around through the foster care system after the horrendous death of her family and loss of her memory. Years later their killer is stalking her. Through her circumstances she meets a detective (Marx), a cop (Sam), and a former childhood friend (Jordan) who’s now a sheriff. They all rally around to protect her.
She is wary of men; her stalker is nothing compared to her psychotic foster brother (Collin), who she’s been running from for the last ten years. Two years ago he found her and nearly broke her physically and emotionally. Now, can she trust these three men along with her best friend Jace or must she run again? Will God keep his promise to be with her no matter what or will her faith be shattered?
I couldn’t put these books down. Each book has its own intensity and the last two books had a twist I never saw coming.
I’m a great fan of all the Holly Novel books. This one was difficult to read and I found myself devouring the whole series so fast the first time around that I missed some of the little funny and whimsical interactions between the characters that make them so good. This is an intense book, don’t get me wrong. But it doesn’t leave the reader with a bad, unresolved feeling. It leaves with hope, which is really a theme of this book and of the main character. I’m looking forward to more Holly stories.
4.5 stars
WOW. CC Warrens can write. Not once was I jerked out of the story. This was a hard book to get right – parts of it were horrifying but it was not gratuitous. We were not left to wallow in evil. Lots of satisfying and encouraging parts of this story. Looking forward to other books with these characters.
