When Holly’s worst nightmare steps back into her life, she has to decide whether to stand and fight or flee and survive. As the threads of her life begin to unravel around her, leaving her displaced from her home, terrified, and caught in the middle of a drug battle, she can’t help but wonder if she made the wrong choice.
Holly is back and as complex and fascinating as she was in Criss Cross (book #1). C.C. Warrens is a master at creating her characters. Watching them learn and develop as people is almost as interesting as figuring out who and where the creepy enemy is. Holly is great at getting herself involved with things she shouldn’t! This adds a needed funny twist and relief to the story’s intensity. I was again enthralled to be a part of her suspenseful journey. On to book 3!!
Couldn’t Put It Down!
The only reason I gave this book 4 stars was because I was easily able to figure out the mystery and predict the twists and turns. Warrens masterfully reveals more of Holly’s past in bits and pieces. We learn more about her faith and resiliency and see her continue to slowly grow and heal. As soon as I finished this book, I immediately went to start the next book in the series.
There are 3 reasons you shouldn’t read this book.
1. If you are triggered by sexual abuse and assault
2. If you haven’t read the first book in the series (Read it first!)
3. If you can’t immediately start the third book in the series (You will not be able to wait.)
C.C. Warrens has written a suspense series that touches the heart on many levels. Dealing with stalking and abuse these books are thoughtfully yet realistically written. The author delves into the intense emotions that surround the abused and the loved ones around them.
Holly was shifted around through the foster care system after the horrendous death of her family and loss of her memory. Years later their killer is stalking her. Through her circumstances she meets a detective (Marx), a cop (Sam), and a former childhood friend (Jordan) who’s now a sheriff. They all rally around to protect her.
She is wary of men; her stalker is nothing compared to her psychotic foster brother (Collin), who she’s been running from for the last ten years. Two years ago he found her and nearly broke her physically and emotionally. Now, can she trust these three men along with her best friend Jace or must she run again? Will God keep his promise to be with her no matter what or will her faith be shattered?
I couldn’t put these books down. Each book has its own intensity and the last two books had a twist I never saw coming.
I couldn’t put this book down at all. I read it in a span of 24 hours straight. Love the relationships in this series. Love Holly, Jordan, Jace. Marx, Sam… I hope I haven’t forgotten anyone. This is one of my favorite series.
CC Warrens is a 5 star writer but this one was a little too scary for me and didn’t have enough of the humour that toned down the last one. I wanted more of Jace because she is a huge source of humour. I love the way the author weaves the faith elements in and I long to see Holly continuing to change and her faith make an impact on others.
