I just finished reading “Criss Cross” and now I can’t wait to read the next book in the series. This is the first book I’ve read by CC Warrens but it definitely won’t be the last. I loved the characters in this book. Holly is an inspirational character, whose story will touch you from the first page. Excellent!
I have read about 20 bookbub books and this was by far the best. Definitely a page turner! I would give it more stars than 5 if I could!!
This book was unbelievable. It was wonderful and I just loved it! I loved the main character and all of the characters. They were really exciting. The plot was amazing. I couldn’t put the book down. It will leave you feeling great. Then you will realize there is more to the story which I will have to read of course. The author does a great job of making you feel what is going on. She is a great writer. I will be looking into more of her books!!
Great book
I enjoyed the very well fleshed our characters, the reality in today’s world, the Christian aspect, and the writing style. I want to read CrossFire.
This’ll probably be the final book I complete in 2018, and what a book it was! True stalker suspense that I couldn’t put down and had to stay up late to finish! I just discovered C. C. Warrens because I’ve heard a lot of good things about this series, and I really enjoyed this very plucky and unusual heroine who, despite a terrible childhood and current imminent danger, still finds reason to hope. There were a few times I had to suspend disbelief, but overall it was a good story and I’ll be looking forward to reading the next in series. An excellent new suspense voice in Christian fiction.
I absolutely LOVED this book and I’m so excited to start on the second of this series! I’m a huge fan of a good suspense thriller and this covered all bases! It grabbed my attention from the first page and I couldn’t wait to see what happened next. The author does a tremendous job of keeping you on the edge of your seat without the gore found in a lot of suspense stories. I will definitely be purchasing more from this author and HIGHLY recommend this book (and series)
This was an exciting mystery that had action with no profanity. It was good I just got frustrated with Holly at her unwise actions at times but she had a very hard life and it made the book very real.
I LOVED this book! I was captivated from the time I picked it up to the very end. The author had me guessing the entire book and it was one of the best books I’ve read in a long time. I liked it so much that I wanted to get on Bookbub and start following the author and see what other books she has written. I would give this book 10 stars if possible!
4.5 stars
This book has been recommended to me multiple times by Christian suspense fans, and I can see why. The characters and their relationship dynamics are truly interesting. The dialogue and banter is well-written. The suspense kept me turning pages long past my bedtime.
Holly is a fascinating character. We learn her story in bits and pieces with the promise of more to come in future books. Although she has been through so much and has erected walls to keep her safe, she has a surprisingly strong faith in God. I enjoyed watching her growth throughout the book and am looking forward to reading the rest of the series!
Note: If rape or any sort of abuse is a trigger for you, this is not a book for you. Nothing is overly graphic, but it is present.
One of the best I’ve read in a long time! I am adding C.C.Warrens to my favorite author list.
An awesome writer and love all her books
C.C. Warrens has written a suspense series that touches the heart on many levels. Dealing with stalking and abuse these books are thoughtfully yet realistically written. The author delves into the intense emotions that surround the abused and the loved ones around them.
Holly was shifted around through the foster care system after the horrendous death of her family and loss of her memory. Years later their killer is stalking her. Through her circumstances she meets a detective (Marx), a cop (Sam), and a former childhood friend (Jordan) who’s now a sheriff. They all rally around to protect her.
She is wary of men; her stalker is nothing compared to her psychotic foster brother (Collin), who she’s been running from for the last ten years. Two years ago he found her and nearly broke her physically and emotionally. Now, can she trust these three men along with her best friend Jace or must she run again? Will God keep his promise to be with her no matter what or will her faith be shattered?
I couldn’t put these books down. Each book has its own intensity and the last two books had a twist I never saw coming.
Oh. My. Goodness. This was an amazing book! I’ve been less than impressed by some of the other books that the group that recommended this one have recommended, so I was hesitant…. but suspense has always been my genre of choice (and I have a soft spot for kids who are “in the system”), so I opted to give this one a try. So glad I did! Holly “Smith” is a young woman living in New York City. She grew up in foster care and can’t remember the first 10 years of her life. Her experiences have given her a good bit of anxiety and she’s learned to not form attachments and be able to move on pretty quickly and seamlessly. She does have faith in God, who rescued her when she was 15. She makes ends meet by doing photography and it’s after one photo shoot that goes later in the night than she’d like that she gets attacked in the park where she was taking pictures. The action and suspense are non-stop after that. After the initial attack, enter Detective Marx, who takes Holly’s quirks in stride and helps her through not only this attack, but in discovering her past. This book was a non-stop thrill ride that had me sitting on the edge of my seat one minute, and laughing out loud the next. The characters are well developed and likeable. Even though my life experiences are nowhere near Holly’s, I could actually “feel” what it was like to be her. This was a good, clean, fun book – with some spiritual insight and a great thrill-ride. Highly recommend!
Loved this introduction to the wonderful character of Holly, Detective Marx, and many other memorable characters. To say that this book made an impression on me, would be an understatement. I loved all the characters, hated the bad guys. The relationships in this book are heartwarming and realistic.
4.5 stars. Anyone else would give it 5 stars but I reserve the 5th star for eternity impacting books.
Outstanding debut. Hard to put down, twists and turns, wonderful characters and dollops of humour.
BUT might be a little scary for some readers.
Some good, short discussions about eternal matters.
I loved this book/series. It is a page turner with wonderful characters. Really hard to put down.
I’m at a loss for the right words other than I enjoyed every twist.surprise and what next. It is a must for Christian suspense readers. Thoroughly entertaining.
What a page turner! I really didn’t want to do housework or any chores. When I wasn’t reading the book, I was thinking about it and wanting to get back to it. I love how this author writes. The descriptions are just enough to make you see what she is describing, but it doesn’t go on forever. Just when you think the book might end, it continues. The author really knows how to grab hold of the reader. The only thing that irritated me about the book was how stupid Holly was. She constantly put herself in danger. Would a person with as many hang ups as she had really do that? This book can stand alone, but the last sentence does set up the next novel. This one was so intense that I’m not sure I could read the next one right away. I’ll need to read some “fluff” to give my brain and emotions a rest.
