Coral Reef Views by Vicki Delany is an Ashley Grant Mystery. This story is a novella taking place after book 2 of the series. This is my first experience with Ashley Grant and it was a positive one. Ashley rides on an ambulance along with her partner Simon. They work on Victoria and Albert Island in the Caribbean. Ashley has been there for three months and her parents, who have recently retired, are there for a visit. A bit of a strain on her one bedroom apartment. It was manageable until her father started worrying about a man he’d met and seemed to have disappeared. He started asking questions people didn’t appreciate.
Coral Reef Views was a fun little read. The characters were simple, but believable. Ashley’s parents are like parents everywhere so any reader will identify. The crime was relatively simple but it took a little ingenuity to solve it. Ashley’s father was like a dog with a bone, but it paid off. Her mother was the same with trying to fix Ashley up. A dog with a bone! This seems like an enjoyable series. Give it a try. I recommend it.

Paramedic Ashley Grant is entertaining her parents as they vacation with her. Mom is having the greatest time … sitting on the beach reading. Dad has just retired as a plumber and sitting around is not his idea of a good time.
Dad meets one of the neighbors and they immediately hit it off. They plan to meet up the following day …. but Paul never shows. Knowing that Paul recently lost his wife to cancer, Dad becomes concerned when Paul can’t be reached.
A day or so later, Ashley and her colleague are called to the scene of what they’re calling an accident. A man’s body is found in the water, after falling a number of feet. Ashley identifies him as Paul, the missing neighbor.
Dad is determined to find out what happened to his friend, and along with his daughter, he soon stumbles on the dark secrets of this Caribbean paradise.
This was a very easy fast read with engaging characters. This will be appealing to anyone who likes cozy mysteries with a touch of romance. The plot is a bit suspenseful and the setting is wonderful.
Many thanks to the author / Orca Book Publishers / Netgalley / for the digital copy of this engaging cozy. Read and reviewed voluntarily, opinions expressed here are unbiased and entirely my own.
I received an ARC from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. I did not realize Vicki Delany had written so many books. I saw this on NetGalley and had to read it and I’m certainly glad I did. This is a wonderful, easy to read, Caribbean themed story. Ashley is an awesome, spunky character and she’s a paramedic (medical relevance always draws me in). I absolutely recommend this book to everyone who enjoys a light, easy, quick mystery. Enjoy!
CORAL REEF VIEWS by Vicki Delany is the third book in the Ashley Grant mystery series. The story takes place in the Caribbean on the Victoria and Albert Islands. It worked as a stand-alone novel for me.
Ashley Grant is a paramedic that now lives and works in the Caribbean. Her Canadian parents visit her, but her recently retired father soon gets bored. He meets and makes friends with Paul McIntosh, another Canadian visiting the islands. When Paul disappears, Ashley’s father, Frank, is determined to find him and Ashley helps him.
Ashley, her boyfriend, and her parents are likeable characters, but there was not a lot of time for character development in this novella. However, their motivations seemed believable, with well-drawn and appropriate emotions and the plot was clear and well-executed. The prose was engaging and readable. The ending was satisfying, but not a surprise. I loved the cover and title, but it did not tie in to the story line.
Overall, this was a good book that was well-crafted and I would recommend it to those that want a short and concise, but entertaining amateur sleuth read.
Thanks to Orca Book Publishers and Vicki Delany for a digital ARC of this novel via NetGalley and the opportunity to provide an honest review. Opinions are mine alone and are not biased in any way.
