EXPANDED WITH A NEW EPILOGUE “The tragedies keep coming. As we reel from the latest horror . . .” So begins a new epilogue, illustrating how Columbine became the template for nearly two decades of “spectacle murders.” It is a false script, seized upon by a generation of new killers. In the wake of Newtown, Aurora, and Virginia Tech, the imperative to understand the crime that sparked this plague … crime that sparked this plague grows more urgent every year.
What really happened April 20, 1999? The horror left an indelible stamp on the American psyche, but most of what we “know” is wrong. It wasn’t about jocks, Goths, or the Trench Coat Mafia. Dave Cullen was one of the first reporters on scene, and spent ten years on this book-widely recognized as the definitive account. With a keen investigative eye and psychological acumen, he draws on mountains of evidence, insight from the world’s leading forensic psychologists, and the killers’ own words and drawings-several reproduced in a new appendix. Cullen paints raw portraits of two polar opposite killers. They contrast starkly with the flashes of resilience and redemption among the survivors.more
Excellent analysis
This book dispels many myths and rumors about the shootings.
This is THE book to read on the Columbine massacre/tragedy. Takes on the story from all perspectives and does as good of a job as any could in trying to explain why the two boys did what they did and how easily they might have been caught before hand — or been even more deadly. Great insight and information.
Exceptional reporting and analysis of a horrible day in US history. When you’ve read this you need to read Sue Klebold’s incredible book. Both are excellent and important.
A true account of unbelievable tragety
sad topic, many questions and few answers found in this book. many people to blame why this event even happened.
So much heartbreak.
A real look into the tragic story of Columbine. I read the entire book in one sitting. Give yourself permission to do nothing but read until you finish this one.
Fact based book about the murderers.
This book has such a great insight on what happened that day and the days leading up to it. It’s a non-fiction book told like a fiction book, which I really liked that about it. It covers why the two boys did what they did. It was such a tragic day and it is sure to bring tears to your eyes.
