The first time the world ended, she went into hiding. The second time, she became a fugitive. When war breaks out between the Western State and Regent’s Block, two North American political coalitions, Wren Richards is forced into hiding. Her father insists that, as witches, they have more at risk; more to hide. It is a time of division, of careful planning and preparation. They conceal themselves … conceal themselves and their power, living on only what they can grow and create with their own hard work.
But then there is a break in the doldrums of normalcy: Wren is sent to fetch supplies in town. Her younger sister tags along—it’s a waste of time, a waste of energy.
And then the atomic bomb hits.
Everything changes.
Now Wren isn’t just a witch: she’s a survivor. A slave. A water seeker. A murderer. She and her sister are kidnapped and dragged to another dimension, a mirror of Earth, dying from nuclear winter. Energy is worth more than gold and harder to find. As witches, they’ll fetch a higher dollar at auction. Because as witches, energy can be sourced from their souls.
The only person who can save Wren is herself.
And she’s just been sold to the highest bidder.

Wren and Soleil are sisters who are witches. They live in the mountains with their parents not using their powers. Their coven, plus many others were destroyed by humans. One year later, their father sends them into town to collect supplies. On the way, they discover a ghost town and the fact that the town had been bombed. They do not understand why their father would send them there, especially when their mother had the second sight. Along their journey, they discover their parents are no longer alive, they were murdered. They meet up with a group of people and the leader falls in love with Wren. He protects her at all costs even knowing what she is. They end up captured by another race from another dimension. There, they are sold into slavery! Wren falls in love with the captor’s son, and he falls in love with her. That is not supposed to happen! Now, they must fight for their lives with the help of others! The book is fast-paced. I received this book as a gift and am leaving a voluntary review. The book starts out with a great story line, but along the way the book lost my interest because the story plot just did not keep my attention. If the author would have stuck with the original plot, and developed more of a story with the initial characters…it would have been awesome. It is a good read in my opinion up until the final few chapters of the book. But, do not let this review deter you….buy it for yourself and be the judge.
WOW! What Wren & her sister go through being dragged into the Fae world is told so well! Love how the sisters interact with each other then find their grownup selves & Love. The ending needed an epilogue, but still, the story is awesome!
This is the first book I have read by this author. I loved the world building and character development. The book was full of surprises!! I didn’t want the story to end. Hope to read more about the characters in future books!!
Life as Wren knew it ended a year ago after the bombs fell. A witch like the rest of her family, Wren was subsisting in the woods, struggling to get by with the barest of essentials. That is, until the day her father sent her to the nearest settlement to pick up supplies…. And another bomb fell…
Wowza! I was captivated from the first sentence! Wren and her sister Soliel face many trials and tribulations; you won’t believe what happens to these two young witches! A fresh and unique plot line, with well developed characters. Some you’ll like, others you won’t, but you won’t forget them, either!
Would have given this five stars, but it needs to be re-editted. Many incorrect words (the for he, bored for board, lessoned for lessened, alter for altar, etc.) . Some sexual tension and suggestion, but nothing over the top or in your face.
