City of Kings by Bree M. Lewandowski. This story takes place in 2024. I had a hard time getting into this story honestly and I’m not sure why. I liked the characters Judah and Maive they’re whole relationship is complicated and entertaining with some sadness. The storyline was good and flowed from scene to scene with no issues. This story is the perfect example of when people say there’s a thin line between love and hate. Judah and Maive have that entertaining love hate relationship and the tension is higher then ever when they are forced to not only be in the same state again, but also in close quarters constantly.
This is the first book I have read by this author and I enjoyed reading this second chance story. This is not normally the genre I read but looking at the dust cover the story intrigued me.
The story follows the lives of Maive and Judah and their love/hate relationship, they both hurt each other years ago but have been brought together, this story was a snap shot into the future and it took me a few chapters to get into the story but once I got into the story it was a page turner.
I thought the characters were well developed and the secondary characters enriched the story, I always enjoy when a city or country also adds to the story telling and Chicago was a great back drop. I hope there is another book to see where these characters have developed into but I will definitely try other books by this author in the future.
City Of Kings by Bree M. Lewandowski is a story about your past and how it has a way of catching up with you.
Both Maive and Judah never thought they would see each other. Betrayed years ago they had no desire to see each other again. He vowed never to return to the city, she fought hard to build the life she now had.
But when circumstances force them together the past rears it’s ugly head. Old emotions surface, new ones begin to show. But will this be something they can control and come out the other side? Or will the fire consume them both?
After reading be blurb I wasn’t sure what to expect from this book. It sounded good and I really hoped that it could live up to expectations. And it certainly did. The chemistry from these characters was so strong I could feel it with every interaction. The story was complex and interesting. I couldn’t ever see how this would play out. The writing grabbed my attention straight away and I knew that it wouldn’t let up until the end. A new author for me but one I am looking forward to discovering more about.
What a great read, I absolutely loved City of Kings! The two main characters – Judah and Maive – were both likeable and very well developed which made it really enjoyable to read their story! I loved seeing two equally strong characters, despite their difference in genders, and it was intriguing to learn about their past relationship while witnessing them together in the present. My favourite part of the book was the shifts in perspective; I loved this because it helped me gain a better understanding of both the characters and the story itself! Overall, this is a great read full of clever irony and realistic characters, I would definitely recommend!
City of Kings is a dystopian second chance romance written by Bree M. Lewandowski. It is a short story that packs quite the punch. I was pleasantly surprised at the content and very descriptive way the story was written. Maive and Judah were once lovers, but forces separated them and betrayal and heartache were all they were left with. Fast forward a few years and they unexpectedly meet again. Tension is so palpable between them, you could cut it with a knife. The edginess was anxious yet addictive. For my first time reading work by this author, I was taken into the future on an endless journey of discovery, rekindled love and excitement. 4 stars.
City of Kings was a good 4 star read.
This was my first read from this author and I really enjoyed it. This was a good second chance romance for Judah and Maive.
The story started out a little slow at first, it did start drawing me in once Judah and Maive saw each other. Judah was an alpha male and hooked me fairly quickly. Maive was a strong character that I really enjoyed. These two have a not so great past of betrayal but fate has brought them back together.
They had a great hot and steamy connection between them. Will they be able to put the past behind them? Will they get their HEA?
Dystopian isn’t usually my first choice of reads but I was pulled right in by Bree. Her writing style is great and the details added to the story. The secondary characters were great as well. I look forward to reading more from Bree.
City of Kings by Bree M. Lewandowski was an fast, epic read that had my hooked.
This futuristic dystopian read is a stand-a-lone, and my first read by this author. I will say that at first I was a little put off by the writing style, it wasn’t as smooth flowing as I like, but as the story moved and developed I didn’t eve notice. It matched the setting and actually for me, enhanced the story as a whole.
This is a fairly quick read, told in third person you are on the outside looking in, I liked that. I got to get in each characters head and see what’s going on outside of the one person. Like watching a movie. Now I will say that at times, it did fall flat and the tone was a little hollow, but it was never for lone and I believe the author saw this and took steps to pull out and, move on towards something more interesting and engaging.
I have to touch on the world building, it is freaking outstanding. Rich, detailed, and 3D. I felt like I was there.
Overall this story is something, and I very much enjoyed myself reading it. This is a high recommendation from me. This story has a bit of this dark grittiness to it, back at the same time out female MC is a badass who could probably stand her once with Wonder Woman.
Happy Reading

City of Kings By Bree M. Lewandowski is a somewhat quick read but that doesn’t render the storyline at all. I was almost immediately dragged in to a world so well described I was living it out not just reading. Each character good and bad brings exactly what I was looking for in this story. I’m not usually drawn to this type of book but the cover had me hooked and I’m so glad it did because this was an incredibly written book. This is the first book I’ve read by this author and it definitely won’t be the last as I enjoyed her writing style greatly. The storyline is paced nicely and the characters are complex and strong willed making for a well rounded story. I highly recommend this book and can’t wait to read more from this author. Giving this story a five star review!
City of Kings by Bree M. Lewandowski is a dystopian romance and a quick read, it is also a standalone but would be good to make into a series. Bree’s writing is simplistic and flows naturally without all the pomp and fuss of a lot of details overwhelming you. With strong and endearing characters Bree has written a story that crosses several genres and makes it work well. Her writing style is unique and builds a future world that is full of conflict and unrest but where a second chance at love can prevail.

Stars-4
This is a second chance love story of Judah and Maive. These characters have a lot to overcome such as their past issues, Maive’s intended, and sorting out how they currently feel about each other. They both have made mistakes, but it makes them more relatable. Maive is doing what she thinks is best for everyone.Judah is brave. They were fun to read about. There was a spot in the middle that I thought that I may not like how things were going to end up. Luckily, it turned out well. It is a short, fun read that I very much enjoyed!

The story City of Kings by Bree M. Lewandowski is a fantasy book set in a dystopian world. It is a story that hooked me in early on and had me turning pages to read what was going to happen next. The story takes you to a time when the world is a much different place. That includes how it is ruled. It takes place in the city of Chicago and I enjoyed the attention to detail that was given about the different places visited in the city. I felt that I was right there with the characters as they moved about. I enjoyed reading about the characters of Judah and Maive. These two have a love/hate relationship. You can tell just how bad it is by the bickering that invades their interactions. These two have a past that left them hurt, however you can also tell that there is still something more there between them. Will Judah and Maive get a second chance at love? Another reason that I loved Maive so much is that she is a compassionate person and someone who wants to make others lives better. Even though her actions are considered reckless she will not quit in making her goals a success. Danger is also a part of the world you read about. This is the first story that I have read by the author. I found it to be well-developed and would recommend it as a book not to be missed.
This 4.5* read from this author is awesomesauce. Judah has struggled over the years. Becoming a drunken mess of a soldier who just gets by he finds himself knee deep in crap and reassigned to Chicago. It’s not the best of assignments but becomes even more distasteful when he sees her. Maive isn’t the woman he once knew and that’s quite evident seeing where he finds her. This is a great story of rekindling of love or a second chance at something they lost long ago and now have a chance to recover. They have a few roadblocks in front of them but they will power through. I love the world building and graphic description provided by the author which gives us all we need to envision ourselves in this place. It feels like the beginning of a series not a standalone read. Dystopian isn’t a genre I explore often but this author has made this visit painless and made Chicago in the far off future a place I will gladly stay away from.
I love this author and her style. While I am not a big fan of third pov she does do it well and keeps it from being dull and it’s most definitely not repetitive. I wish, I hope, I want to see more from this, more of this world and it’s inhabitants.

It took me till about half way through the 2nd chapter to really get fully invested in this story but at that point it was a done deal. This is my first book by this author and I sincerely enjoyed it and can not wait to see what else this author has available.
I love second chances for couples in my book, add in a touch of way way in the future and you have a great story. I really liked almost all of the characters in this story and even the ones I didn’t like still made the intended impression.
I loved the picture that was painted of life that far in the future and I must say I’m kind of glad I won’t be around. It felt very real, and I loved the interaction between Maive and Judah and my heart broke for them for so much time lost.
This story moved along nicely, and I read it in 2 sittings and that’s only because life got in the way. Would love to read more about how life moved on for these characters and there were a couple secondary players that I would love to read more about as well.
I really liked it and can’t wait to read more from this author.
Never judge a book by it’s cover has never been a phrase I follow literally, I am at least drawn to many of the books I read because of the cover. There is something about the cover of City of Kings that caught my eye, not sure if it was the combination of red and black, the attractive couple or what called my attention but once I read the synopsis I couldn’t pass the book up.
Straight away I liked the idea of a second chance novel with a dystopian theme and Bree M. Lewandowski didn’t disappoint. I quickly found myself invested in the characters, especially Maive. Before I knew it I was swept up in another world. While the book was a fairly quick read there was so much attention to detail that I felt like I had escaped from my current reality and was wrapped up in the characters and their development throughout the storyline. I will definitely be keeping an eye out for more written by Bree M. Lewandowski after digging into this 4 star read.
Bree M. Lewandowski is a new author to me, and I must say I loved this book. The story flows well and the characters Maive and Judah are great.
I will definitely be reading more books from this author
This is a short story that will kept me reading until the last page. I enjoyed how it is science fiction story that takes place in the future. Life is different for Maive now and she seems to have it together then he pops back up in her life. Their relationship ended in betrayal but she grew from that but now fate has a way of stepping in. I enjoyed both characters and found them to be relate-able. Is there such thing as second chances? I highly recommend reading this book.

City of Kings was an incredible read by Bree M. Lewandowski, her writing was just amazing. I have not read anything by her before and she has definitely made an impression on me as a reader. The storyline was good, the flow of the story was excellent and the characters were fantastic! I loved Maive! She was a brilliant female lead, strong, courageous – I just found that I connected with her straight away. Her development over the story was strong too! Judah – the perfect alpha male in every way! Just the way I like them! Brooding (oh he was so brooding!!) my favourite thing about alpha males and Judah had it in bucket loads! The chemistry between Maive and Judah was hot – and I mean sizzling hot!
Apart from the amazing characters that Ms. Lewandowski has written about she has also created some wonderful world building. I love how she has managed to combine a few genres and bring them altogether so seamlessly.
I would absolutely recommend this book – I enjoyed every moment of it!
