First of all, I think that I would have enjoyed this book more if I had read the previous books in the series. There were a lot of characters, a lot of jumping around in the story, several different communities that were surviving the Zompoc and all of this made the story hard to follow at times.
This book was more of a post-apocalyptic book than a zombie book, so if you are looking for zombies, this book won’t really fill your desire. The book follows several groups that are trying to get their world back to normal.
Some of the book just didn’t ring true for me. A group of teenagers in one compound decides to take off to find a secret stash of alcohol and never returns. Really? A mother of four children is bored with being in the compound and watching the kids, so she decides to go on a scavenging expedition to find toys so the kids aren’t bored. Another SMH moment.
The writing was pretty good and the book did have the requisite zompoc elements: tough military guys, romantic interests, bad guys using and abusing others and wanting to take over the world. You get the idea.
This was an OK read, just nothing different or noteworthy. Maybe I’ll try reading the first book in the series and see how I progress from there.
Life is hard as she is chased by zombies and his advances. They arrive at a churchyard she hopes to get some restbite. Will she be lucky? Will she end up in a mess again? See how she gets on

This started out to be the first book I read and I discovered that I needed a little more background (that’s why I deducted a star). So, I went back and purchased the books before this one (one of them is free right now) and it made things a bit easier. It is a quick read and the characters are fairly well developed. In this book we follow the story of River and Cole and how they find their way with coping and surviving a zombie apocalypse. As with any good story, there are some angsty moments, some brewing love interest and of course the twists and turns that keep you tuned in. A quick lunch time read!
I received a free copy of this book from Booksprout and I am voluntarily leaving a review. I loved this book. The progress that is being made despite the zombies that are a danger to the survivors. The possibilities of contact with others and renewing
at least some communication with others is a real advance in this changed and
dangerous world. The lost children and the return of survivors gives hope for the
community. Life goes on. A wonderful message of hope and shows that just because the world as we know it ended, human beings can still be compassionate and caring. A tremendous read that is enjoyable and made me think about the human condition. Will definitely continue reading this series. Loved every minute of this story. (less)
Once again Ms. Morgan provides readers with a compelling tale of survival as survivors of the zompoc move beyond the simple of surviving the day, but thinking of the future. It’s a perfect balance of zombie to human nature without actually being a gory read of living dead. I enjoy the way the tale focuses more on human nature and how an event of apocalyptic proportions can bring out either the best or the worst in every one of us.
