Children Of the Fifth Sun:Echelon by Gareth Worthington is a very suspenseful, action packed, and outstanding book that I enjoyed from beginning to end! I love this species of life that is bonding with the children! It is heartwarming but terrifying of what the government is going to do…never good things! Great job!
Gareth Worthington does his research in theories and mythologies, while many of the locales are real. I can tell when an author delves deep into the subject of his book, because if find it easy to get lost it in the world he creates.
We start out with a Titanic like sinking and I am off and running to find out the how and why of it. I love the instantaneous hook!
At the age of five, Freya’s son, KJ, has dreams of a sinkhole and eyes looking out at him. I see an adventure coming, and after the wildly amazing Book I, Children of the Fifth Sun, I anticipate trouble, lots of trouble. Gareth Worthington’s vivid imagination and creative writing make the world a spectacular place to visit.
Kids will be kids, but KJ is special.
Catherine is a reporter who will do anything to chase the story. She is aggressive, determined. I wonder if she is being helped getting to the sinkhole, or is she being used?
The creatures, everyone wants them, but they all have ulterior motives.
Lucy, the Secretary of State, knows what has to be done and lays it all on the line to do it. Johnathon was the only person she trusted and she called him for help. He knows all the secrets.
Benjamin, Freya’s Godfather comes to her aid and is determined to make sure she gets whatever she needs to accomplish her mission.
Gareth Worthington is such a creative writer, the characters are well developed and even the critters have their distinct personalities. I am stuck to the story like glue to paper. I fret, I worry, how can this possibly end on a good note, with all the politics, greed and need to know what makes everything tick?
Echelon – an old global surveillance system, probably not even being watched. It definitely comes in play in a very important way.
I love the conspiracy, the rogues, the enemy is my friend..and Stu, that guy at Menwith…
Children of the Fifth Sun by Gareth Worthington is thought provoking and scary. It raises moral and ethical questions that are frightening. I love that the characters were willing to sacrifice everything, put there lives on the line, to do the right thing. Are we learning bad from them or are they learning good from us?
Is there more to come? I certainly hope so.

I love this series. Children of the Fifth Sun was one of the most intriguing stories I’ve read in a long time and this second installment, Echelon, is no different. Mixing myth with real science, legitimate intrigue, and bombastic action, Worthington knows how to craft a deeply moving tale that grabs you by the throat an refuses to let go. With a knack for consistently producing well researched and meticulously crafted stories worth every moment of your precious time, Dr. Worthington has proven time and again that he is one of the very best storytellers out there.
