I am voluntarily reviewing an Advance Reader Copy of this book, and if I had paid anything for this book I would have been furious. Penelope Woods must be a huge fan of Addison Cain, because this is a pretty blatant rip off of her books and a not particularly good one. The whole book was disjointed, hard to follow, it was impossible to sympathize at all with Rae, or any of her harem. It’s rare that I write this negative a review, but this book was just awful!!!
If you’re not really tough on reading a chaotic book, chaotic written with underground sentence structure and chaotic structure and many missing connections, tough chaotic flow and actually no clean transitions with missing POV, then this book/series is not necessary and should be avoided.
Unless you are extremely bored and don’t care what you spend your time reading.
For a long time I didn’t torture myself so much through a book. With a self-critical approach, that perhaps I lack the intellectual access or horizon, I was able to finish this book thanks to my endless hope that things would get even better and a little curiosity.
As a result, it was not worth it for me, wasted time, not conducive to the theme of RH and Omegavers.
The idea and the hunch of an exciting story is there, parts of the story have potential, but unfortunately the realization, totally underground, just bad, in my opinion.
Towards the end there is some explanation and clarification of the situations and storylines, but that’s not really enough. It’s too late and the characters, whatever they are, stay flat, colorless, incomprehensible and without emotions or connection.
Whether book 2 and later book 3 will still be read by me, I can’t rule out at the moment, but doubt it. Here the blurb was the best part of the book.
I‘m sure the author could do better and will be better.
I quite enjoyed reading this dark & twisted reverse harem romance which is set in a futuristic era & I found the plot suspenseful with some unexpected events. The characters are complex with unique individual personalities & are inclined to be unpredictable.
There is: a young virgin female omega breeder that is captured (Wren), three determined alphas (Killian, Vash & Lucas), a despicable alpha (Cassian), omegas, alphas, hunters, twists & turns, intrigue, action, clones, slavery, medical experiments, devious plans, non-consensual scenes, violence, memories, manipulations, confrontations, discovery, deceit & betrayal.
Born Captive is the first book in the Broken Angel Trilogy by Penelope Woods. This is definitely a dark and twisted journey the readers are embarking on by starting this series. I found myself pulled into the drama, intrigued by the characters and needing to watch the whole story unfold. There were parts that tested my limits for how sinister and how outrageous I enjoy my reading material but I couldn’t walk away… I needed to keep those pages turning and I’m glad I did. I need more.
I received an advanced reader’s copy of the book and I am voluntarily leaving my honest review and recommendation.
