Engaging characters and story. I love a book that pits the normal against the rich and powerful. The family connections in this thriller contrast the loving vs the sham. I read this in less than 24 hrs. Hard to put down.
New Jersey State Police and Governor get tangled in murder for hire – 4.5 stars
The story opens with a murder, the first of several. Jamie Jamieson is the Governor of New Jersey. The Governor’s son, Trey, is the first person to be murdered. There will be more.
The sleazy political campaign director, Dr Lucien Black, is the first character to raise concerns about who is in charge; the plot gets far more involved and opaque. An attractive woman seems to run a high-class nightclub in New York City that offers special services.
The New Jersey State Police are thoroughly thrashed by a slippery cable news host for their poor planning and lack of transparency. Disguises and clues that were intended to be found made for an out-of-the-ordinary murder mystery. Information leaks, when only a small number of people involved have pledged to be quiet, add more questions.
I found the fast-moving story compelling. It seems to be in tune with power-hungry politicians who seem to be commonplace. Heroism is quietly on display.
Power corrupts just about anyone and when you have it you always want more and will do unthinkable things. The governor’s son is murdered in front of his two young daughters on Christmas Day. Two young New Jersey State Troopers are tasked to find his killer. Where they find so much more than they asked for. Their lives along with others are in danger. Will the corruption overpower the state troopers or will justice prevail? This was an engaging story with twists you won’t see coming.
I received this as an arc and this is my honest and voluntary review.
This is a fast paced murder mystery that will have you trying to put the clues together to figure out who is killer is and the reason behind the killing. There were a couple points involving Sergeant Billy Ryan where I was expecting different twists in the story. Even close to the end I was left wondering if one of the characters was a good guy or a bad guy. This was a well-written story with plenty of suspense.
This story has great characters and a story that grabs the reader from the beginning until the very end. There are likable characters and some that are not, but all are great parts of the story. I really enjoyed reading an ARC of this book and voluntarily reviewed it.
This is a fast paced read with plenty of great characters. There are twists and turns that will give you whiplash if you’re not careful! While it’s a thriller, there are plenty of laughs too. The nun is hilarious! Great start to a hopefully long series.
I received a free copy of this book and voluntarily chose to review it.
