NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER It’s time for a black exit. Political activist and social media star Candace Owens addresses the many ways that Democrat Party policies hurt, rather than help, the African American community, and why she and many others are turning right. Black Americans have long been shackled to the Democrats. Seeing no viable alternative, they have watched liberal politicians take … alternative, they have watched liberal politicians take the black vote for granted without pledging anything in return. In Blackout, Owens argues that this automatic allegiance is both illogical and unearned.
She contends that the Democrat Party has a long history of racism and exposes the ideals that hinder the black community’s ability to rise above poverty, live independent and successful lives, and be an active part of the American Dream. Instead, Owens offers up a different ideology by issuing a challenge: It’s time for a major black exodus. From dependency, from victimhood, from miseducation–and the Democrat Party, which perpetuates all three.
Owens explains that government assistance is a double-edged sword, that the Left dismisses the faith so important to the black community, that Democrat permissiveness toward abortion disproportionately affects black babies, that the #MeToo movement hurts black men, and much more. Weaving in her personal story, which ushered her from a roach-infested low-income apartment to1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, she demonstrates how she overcame her setbacks and challenges despite the cultural expectation that she should embrace a victim mentality.
Well-researched and intelligently argued, Blackout lays bare the myth that all black people should vote Democrat–and shows why turning to the right will leave them happier, more successful, and more self-sufficient.

I CANNOT rave enough about the woman and her book. She drips class, speaks truth, and listens to facts. This is probably the quickest nonfiction read I’ve done. I kept saying “one more chapter” every single night.
Candace Owens speaks directly to the Black community in Blackout. She commentates on the family unit, education, policy, history, slavery, faith, and so much more. Her opinion and thoughts are laced throughout the book, but she backs EVERYTHING up with statistics and historical, scientific evidence.
I already consider myself conservative, but she opened my eyes to so much. She made current events make sense. Her writing was eloquent, truthful, and straightforward. You do not need to have studied political science or law to digest this read.
Open your mind. Read her book. Embrace her spirit
A must read for every American, but especially for Black America, which is the audience to which Owens is specifically writing. She makes excellent points grounded in history, culture, and statistics, and she addresses every key angle necessary to understand why the Democratic party is in fact enslaving the minds of black Americans and destroying their homes, their culture, and their faith by perpetrating a victim-based narrative that denies them the reality of their own autonomy. I would highly encourage anyone who wants to understand why Black America is in the state it is to read Owens and then to follow her book up with a deep dive into Thomas Sowell’s books on race in America.
This is an especially useful starting point for those outside the country trying to understand black culture and the claims or rampant institutional racism being made falsely by the party who has historical found every way to disenfranchise blacks that they could. Owens and Sowell will give a better grounding in the history than I have seen from any of the usual history books or textbooks written by liberal journalists and scholars on the topic because they trace the issues back to their roots rather than focusing on a factless argument based solely in emotion and the harms done to past generations of one group by past generations of another.
Wow!
Candace Owens is a voice to be reckoned with.
I think everyone should read or listen to this book. Whether you agree with Candace Owens or not, she has learned as many other supporters of the Democratic party, they were not helping anyone and are still not helping anyone.
She has done her research for this book and she lived her childhood first hand, so there was not research she needed to do for that part. In school when she excelled, she was ridiculed for trying to be white or not black enough, as she was called. She was raised to work hard and make her life better, which meant getting good grades in school, get into a good college, and a good job. It is all anyone should want for a child growing up in this world today.
Every child today has the right to go to school, college, and make something of themselves. But the Democratic party wants to keep the welfare checks flowing instead of helping those single mothers and school teachers teach those children to strive for better in life. There is nothing wrong with needing government assisting but living on it for generations is control by the Democratic party. If you want to make your life better, it starts with YOU!
I grew up in south Mississippi, and live there still. We were poor, ate free lunches at school because my parent’s income was below the poverty level even with both of them working. We were not eligible for any other assistance besides free school lunches.
It’s time for people, it’s not just Black America, it is time for America as a whole to stand up and tell the Democratic party that enough is enough.
**I purchased this audiobook and this is my honest opinion.
