“Purged” was such a heart-warming story that allowed us to catch up with Khloe and Ryder. Not only was it told in such a way as to make it easy to relate to, it also brought home the point that eating disorders don’t magically heal themselves just because you get a happily ever after in a relationship. Great job Livia in not only bringing eating disorders the attention it needs but to do so in a loving and caring manner. I hope we can check in with them again somewhere along the line.
*This book will talk heavily about eating disorders and mental illness*
Getting to read about Khloe, Ryder and Trevor again was great! This was a heavy subject and it’s short, but totally worth it.
Khloe gets turned down for a role while Ryder is away on business and it hits her hard. She has Trevor to support her but missing Ryder like she does, it only makes things worse.
We get to see and feel everything that Khloe feels. Her disappointment, her self doubt, her guilt and so much more. But she’s also reminded about who truly loves her.
Black Light – PURGED, by Livia Grant
A short, not so sweet, informative story about Khloe Monroe’s continuing struggle with bulimia. Bulimia isn’t only a mental struggle, but a physical and emotional struggle as well. Will Khloe ever be able to get to the finish line and quit this harmful habit, or will she lose Ryder because of it? Read this latest ‘update’ on one of our favorite Black Light couples.
I loved Khloe and Ryder’s from previous Black Light books and this short story was no exception! Ms Grant did a great job portraying struggles and sufferings of eating disorder. It was emotional and intense. My heart went out for Khloe but also for Ryder. You could feel all his anger, fear and frustration of watching love of his life suffering from mental disorder. I only wished it was longer and there was more Ryder!
This can be read as a stand-alone but I definitely recommend you read previous books featuring this couple!
I received a copy of this book from author and this is my honest review.
If you’re familiar with the Black Light Series then you know that when we met Khloe she had body weight issues revolving around her career in Hollywood. When she met Ryder he finally got through to her that what she was doing was unhealthy and that she wasn’t fat at all. In this short we see Khloe struggling with her demons because Ryder is away on business and she really wants a part in a film that would not be good for her recovery. What will she choose? Trevor is not going to watch her selfdestruct and not do anything about it either but can you save someone from themself. This is a very important issue and was written very well. The struggles with eating disorders are real and do serious damage. This is an issue that all women struggle with some just take it to an extreme level. You really need to read this book and see what happens with Khloe. I was given an ARC in exchange for my honest opinion of this book.
Many women struggle with anxiety and low self-esteem that is intricately tied to their body image. Purged by Livia Grant is heartbreakingly intense. It relates the insecurity of an actress, and the lengths she is willing apply in order to achieve her “ideal” body weight. Livia Grant does an excellent job of portraying the pain and self-destruction this woman faces during her ordeal and the beautiful people who help her win. In my opinion this is an issue rampant in today’s society. I wish there were some magic cure that would allow each person to see their true value. Thank you, Livia, for such a soul-shattering story.
Even a Dom like Ryder has his work cut out for him when his sub Khloe gets turned down for a part all her insecurities surface, as Ryder is away it is left to Trevor her bodyguard and friend who has to try and get Khloe back on track until Ryder’s return. A very haunting snippet of a girl who has everything but still sees herself as lacking, it’s great to have little snapshots of their lives its shows they still have problems, loved it. I voluntarily reviewed this book.
Khloe and Ryder are some of my favorite Black Light characters and I’m so happy to see a new story for them. This book is hard to read because it brings all the feels to the surface. The subject matter is hard to read but is handled beautifully and realistically. Praise fir Livia for taking a taboo subject and making a story that shows love and devotion throughout.
A quick read which takes the readers on a roller-coaster ride full of emotions.
We like to think that we have mastery over ourselves, our minds, our bodies. But that’s not always the case. Sometimes, despite our best intentions there’s something, in the wiring, in the chemistry, heck in the way we’ve trained our bodies and emotions to react to stimulus. There’s just something that throws the system out of whack, and progress made to be better, healthier, our best selves, is set back a pace or two. Khloe faces that situation. And her story reminds us that, whether we realize it or not, when we’re loved, there are people that will pick us back up and pull us back from the brink. Even when we don’t ask for help. Even when we’re actively refusing that help. That’s what the people who love us do. They love us for who we are, not in spite of it.
I received a complimentary advanced copy of this story from the author.
I was given an ARC For Livia Grants novella “Purged” which is part of the Black Light Series. Livia does it again! Another great book. I always enjoy reading about other characters in a series. This book deals with the issue of anorexia/bulimia. Livia deals with it very realistically but delicately, a very true reality in the modelling and acting world. I appreciate how Livia shows how important love and support are in a relationship. The only negative was the book wasn’t long enough. This storyline could easily have been made in a full length book.
This a really quick short story that takes you through the emotional ringer. I felt bad for Khloe and wanted to smack her at the same time.
This book is a heartrending reminder of the hold that eating disorders have on their sufferers. Finally in a good place in her health, relationship, and career, Khloe’s fears and the disorder take over again when she reacts to a rejection from panic. This book is primarily about Khloe and from her perspective, and the strategies she uses are painful to watch. At the same time, you’re left with a distinct feeling of pity for her ass because that is going to pay, if only to remind her of Ryder’s love and her own worth. If this is your first encounter with Ryder and Khloe, consider going back to read the other books that feature them; it will be worth your while.
4 Amazing Stars! Black Light Novella. Short story shows the mental side to an eating disorder. Brilliantly tells the way our mind sees and distorts perfection. Only loving and wanting something else more will quiet the disease that never goes away.
The title alone lets you know that this isn’t going to be an easy story to get through. The pressure and the emotion this story conveys is intense. Totally worth the read!
Purged has recurring characters, Khloe and Ryder from the previous Black Light full length story, Rescued. Khloe’s insecurities, anxiety and eating disorder take center stage in this novella. This is also the first time that she and Ryder, her Dom, have been separated since becoming a couple a year ago.
“She missed his dominance-his calming control that had a way of making her feel loved… and safe…and grounded.”
Upset by bad news from the studio, ” She could feel herself falling deeper, seduced back into the darkness of her disorder. Making her feel weak. Fragile.”
Will Ryder’s love be enough for Khloe to want to stop? Ms. Grant’s writing make this couple seem real. We are right there watching her struggle and hoping that she recovers.
Oh Black Light: Purged!!! Thank you Livia Grant for reuniting us with these two strong-willed individuals. Their love for each other is beyond anything in the world. I was heartbroken to find out poor Khloe is still plagued with her daily struggle to eat.
You have to ask yourself, what would you do when life becomes too much? When everyone, or so you believe, expects X,Y and Z from you? How do you handle lifes stresses? BL: Purged is a must read. Beautifully done!
when i first read this novella in the Just Breathe Anthology, i was blown away with the courage livia grant had, to bring to light a serious eating disorder that tends to get pushed into the background…that is looked down upon or shamed. i loved how we got an intimate look back into the life of Khloe and Ryder from the Black Light world. Livia Grant really shows us the daily struggle a person and their loved ones go through with an eating disorder! it was so well written…bringing the reader into what is going on in their heads.
Too many of us can identify with Khloe. Eating disorders are no joke, but getting into the mind of a deeply afflicted person, well, it might get you to change your outlook. Ryder is there to catch her as she falls, and this realistic look at someone who struggles with weight and image is a hard, but amazing and insightful piece.
A novella, Purged is about Khloe and Ryder, characters in the multi-author Black Light series. I have read some of the books but you don’t need to have read them in order to appreciate this story. Khloe struggles after a work issue, and falls back into old, destructive ways of coping. It’s a beautiful and heart-breaking episode of recovery and relapse, and the safety, strength, and unconditional acceptance that Khloe gets from Ryder.
I have voluntarily reviewed this book.
