‘WARNING – must have Kleenex to read this book. From the opening pages to the very last chapter I was on an emotional roller coaster that made me ugly cry. A heart wrenching storyline and beautifully written characters make this book a masterpiece.’

strong>What an amazing story of love, loss, heartbreak and second chances!
I loved that this book is narrated from strictly the hero’s point of view, filled with his fears, thoughts and deepest desires. Cole Harkin goes through so much, blinded by grief and pain, yet even at his lowest, he’s surrounded by love, patience and light in the form of a wonderful woman, Harper Tennison. The dialogue and chemistry between these two characters in detailed, deep and amazingly real. To have lived and lost, believing that life ended with the death of “the love of his life” only to to find an even greater and deeper love years later? This story gets you right in the heart and hits all the feels! I was crying, laughing, yelling at Cole, cheering them both on, and all the while, I was in love with his precious baby girl, the amazingly clever and intuitive Layla!! Thank you for the opportunity to read this book!!!
oh my this book is so good .. love how touching and how deep you could feel cole feeling …after losing the love of his life and having a baby daughter to raise ..then he hiring Harper she a angel thaking care of all Layla need growing up ..and Cole mightbe have feeling for her but having trouble getting over his late wife passing . Will he and Harper make it has a couple or will his grief brake them ? this was my first book of author but wont be my last …this is a must read book …hurry and get it you wont regret
I have to say that when I saw the cover of Another Life I thought it was incredible. They say ‘never judge a book by it’s cover’ but in this instance I’d say you can. This incredible cover encases an incredible story that will blow you away and have you feeling all emotions. I would have read the whole book in one sitting if time allowed. This story is heartbreakingly beautiful and a definite must read.
This review is actually a tough one to write. Not because I don’t have anything to say about this book, in fact there is so much that I want to tell you but I don’t want to spoil anything for you. So much of what I am feeling is due to the story line and the after effects of certain events. I am not a stranger to reading books written by KL Shandwick and if like me you’ve also read her books, you already know she writes stories packed full of emotion. This book is no different, so have some tissues to hand because you will need them!
Cole Harkin has stolen my heart. I fell for the character almost immediately. When we first meet him he is a rock star sitting on top of the world with everything to look forward to. I found him to be so down to earth and with such a fabulous personality that I couldn’t help but be drawn to him. The path that he thought he was travelling along suddenly changes and oh my word the author had me feeling every single emotion. How Cole deals with these changes will have you feeling all the sadness, anger and hurt alongside him. I always hoped that during his time of darkness that he would eventually find the light. His struggle to move on is real and heartfelt but all good people deserve happiness, and that is what I wished for him.
Cole could not have a better support network by means of his family and friends. I adore all the characters that we encounter in this book. You will meet Harper who plays a significant role in his life. She is an inspirational lady and someone who puts others before herself….. a trait I truly admire. Another amazing character in the book is Layla, and I know you will love her as much as I do.
What I found that the author did so well was to show how differently people can react and recover from life changing situations. I’ve mentioned about the emotions surrounding Cole going through darker times, but you will smile often too. From the very first chapter you will find yourself on an emotional roller coaster and it is one ride you really must not miss.
First of off this book started off so cute with Cole and Grace and then took a sad turn when Grace didn’t make it. Leaving Cole with a new born baby girl and a heart so broken nothing would ever be the same for him but with the help of those who love him. He begins to live and again and be there for his daughter Layla. There is so much sadness but joy in this book and I don’t want to spoil it for anyone but it has some really good moments that make you want to keep reading and hoping that Cole keeps becoming strong again.
Another Life is the first book I have read by K.L. Shandwick, but I will be reading more. Cole has just finished up the last date on his tour, and is about to become a first time dad with his wife Grace. What should be the happiest day of his life, is suddenly the saddest. Layla is born, but Cole finds out Grace has days to weeks to live. He doesn’t know what to do, and isn’t afforded the chance to bond with his baby because he is back and forth between Layla and Grace. Cole is devastated, and shows no signs of taking care of his daughter or himself, so his mom hires Harper to be Layla’s nanny and she goes home. Dorian, Cole’s brother stays. Cole decides to keep touring so his daughter is always used to him being gone some of the time. Cole just can’t forget Grace or get over his loss. Harper is there for Layla and Layla is a wonderful, smart, well balance little girl. Eventually Cole feels things he doesn’t want to for Harper, and he hits the road. I really don’t want to possibly give anything else away. Cole finds that this isn’t helping, and eventually realizes that he needs to move forward and live life. Harper has seen him at his worst and been there for him, will they find a way to be together? Will Layla be OK with that? This book teaches you that grief is different from everyone, and you will hit rock bottom, no matter who you are, and that only you can bring yourself back from that. If you open yourself, you may find a love greater than the one you lost. This book broke my heart, but also made me realize that there is always something to look forward to and that you need to open yourself up for a second chance at love and life. I loved the ending, and honestly would love another book with these characters set a few years from now, to see how they are. Or one about some of the supporting characters and we get to see/hear about Cole, Harper and Layla. Cole certainly makes a great book boyfriend, and his humor is quite entertaining.
This cover is everything!!! Beautifully told second chance, single dads romance. Its heartwrenching and its emotional with all the feels! I love Cole’s character and his story. Its a very realistic and relatable one. Life can change in a moment. Im glad for the HEA ending
Cole broke my heart from the beginning. This story made me cry on many occasions. But, this book is also about hope and love.
Another life was one of those books you couldn’t put down, the angst heartbreak and love flew off the page, the author created an incredible and timeless book. With real life situations and tragedy shining with love it was a book i know i could read over and over but wouldn’t necessarily need to because its a book that will stick with me forever, emotion wise its sad but so worth it!!
OH! MY! SPEECHLESS!! ANOTHER LIFE by K.L. Shandwick BLEW ME AWAY!! She is a New Author for me and She Had me Intrigued from the Very Beginning of the Book! BAM! Right from the beginning of this book you endure Love and Loss in a matter of minutes!
Cole Harkin goes through a Rollercoaster ride of Emotional distress and Heartwreching Aches that leaves him Heartbroken. With the help of his family and friends, tries to come up from a dark place tunnel of devastation to find the brighter side of Life.
Gotta warn you, MUST have Tissues handy and definitely will be a Blubbering Mess after Reading this Book!!
A MUST READ BOOK AND definitely looking forward to read more of her Writing!!
What a story!!! A second chance at love and life. Cole was so happy with Grace and getting ready for their little girl’s birth. When it came time to have the baby things didn’t go as good as they’d hope. In the end Cole was a rock Star that was grieving and had a little girl named Layla that he couldn’t even deal with. Harper was hired to take care of Layla and be there for her when Cole was on tour with his band or just not able to handle her. When Harper began this life she didn’t know what was going to happen. With Cole in grieving for almost 6 years and not seeing that Harper was a true miracle worker. She always looked out for Layla until she let her feelings for Cole begin to show and his way of dealing with it was to run away but not fully. He wanted something with Harper but needed to heal from Grave’s lost. It was an emotional read that will affect everyone. Second chances are possible.
Warning…you will need tissues, lots of them to get through this book. Rock star Cole Harkin and his wife Grace are living the good life. He has finished his last concert for a year and is looking forward to the birth of their baby in 5 weeks. In less than a week, he has lost his wife to a fast growing cancer and has a tiny baby girl depending on him. His life takes a spiral and he checks out while his mother hires a nanny, Harper, to help with the baby. Cole spends the next few years touring and coming home to his daughter and lusting after Harper. He’s afraid to trust his feelings for her and afraid to live because she could be taken from him. At times I really wanted to knock Cole up side of his head. This was an intense book and really put me through the wringer emotional. I call that a win!
Wow what emotional book. Cole had it all and it was gone before his eyes. So he had to pull it together to start all over from the bottom up. Which made him and anger and a little but bitter man.Harper comes to work for him. Lets say they have their ups and downs and she is one patient person. Then the story really get s going. Worth reading for sure.
Great story of tragedy and love. Beautifully written
I enjoyed this story. I seem to gravitate to sad heartbreaking stories. Throw in the rockstar element and I am ready to enjoy the roller coaster ride. As I read I bookmark special pages so I can go back and re-read again. This is definitely one of those books. Cole became ‘real’ for me as I read his story. Loved the special bond he has with his daughter Layla. I do not want to give away too much as I always like to be surprised.
K.L. Shandwick is a master of making you feel when reading any of her books. But Another Life touch me deeply, it feel personal and it took me back to my own experiences. For days after reading it, I kept thinking about it while revisiting the past. It is not an easy read and at times it felt way too real. Yet, this is a story that needed to be told. And it is worth reading it, because it will break you but also mend your heart. So if you are looking for an emotional and raw story, are new to K.L. Shandwick, give this book a chance. You will fall in love with her honest writing and her characters.
Ps. This book is about a rock star, but it is not a rock star romance. It focuses on the personal and emotional life of the main character.
KL Shandwick takes you on a rollercoaster ride of emotions with this one.
Colt had everything then in a twist of fate he loses it.
Colt may be your next book boyfriend, an amazing story about his journey through his struggles, being buried in his darkness, his only light being little Layla and his struggle to move on and learn to live again.
Little Layla was amazing and stole the show from everyone at times.
Another Life is the perfect title for this amazing, and emotional second chance in life. The cover is splendid. This story is beautifully written, and has it all: wonderful characters, great storyline, and beautiful ending. It was difficult to write this review and not giving away spoilers, because I needed to talk about it! The only thing I will say is that my heart was shattered into a million pieces, and pretty sure the author rebuilt it in a better way after that. You will need tissues to listen to it. Troy Duran did an outstanding read of the story. He was the perfect choice to bring Cole’s story to life. The story has 10 hours, but the time flew by too quickly while listening! I will relisten to this gripping story. I HIGHLY recommend it. Bravo! Looking forward for more books written by K.L. Shandwick, and narrated by Troy Duran.
What a fabulous read. A delicate combination of love, loss, grief and pure hope, wrapped up in a well written story with characters that are beautifully fleshed out and come into a life that enters our hearts. K L Shandwick never teeters into sentimentality while portraying events that are heart breaking. This is underlined and reinforced by the creation of a timeline that allows the grief Cole experiences to truly be explored.
This author has created a very special story here, with characters that I could relate to and believe in. I love Harper. Her wisdom, kindness and generosity of heart is a real gift for Cole. Layla is a total delight and hogs many of the best lines. I loved the scenes in which she is involved..out of the mouths of babes etc..
Overall, an excellent read, which made me smile, fall in love with the characters and also played my heartstrings. 5 excellent stars.
Holy wow! This book was so amazing and beautifully written! There is so much heartbreak, sadness and loss I was feeling right along side Cole that I couldn’t just put it down. The journey that he takes to find happiness again was just as emotional that I was literally crying. I just can’t get over how phenomenal this book was.
Cole pretty much had it all, or the start of having it all, and watching his world fall apart was difficult. Grief has it’s own timeline and is unique to everyone. It was a little difficult reading about Cole shunning his daughter through grief. Harper came in to take care of little Layla and soon became Cole’s lifeline. Watching the two slowly get closer as friends, I wasn’t sure if what Harper did to Cole was tough love, or annoying. They definitely put each other through the wringer when it came to having/not having a relationship, and there was much jealousy and hard feelings. It was definitely a tough journey for Cole to come out on the other side.
