A slow burn between Cole and Harper. Harper becomes a part of Cole’s life when his life is unexpectedly changed for the worst. It takes a very long time for Cole to come out of his funk. Knowing that Harper is a constant, gives him some peace. As Cole finally wakes up to himself he realises that he and Harper could have something good. Will Cole let go of the guilt and live his life? How will this decision affect everyone? Loved this story!!
This book should come with a box of man-size tissues.
It’s an emotional book from the start, you fall in love with the characters, although at times you want to shake them, especially Cole.
This is a must read, a beautiful story about love, loss, moving on and second chances at love.
A journey of love, loss, grief and finding happiness again.
From the very beginning of this book, you are caught up in the loss and heartbreaking moments, there is a slow journey to Cole finding himself again after the loss of his wife Grace and a majority of the story is about Cole dealing with his grief that spanned over six years.
Cole is a rock star who has everything, money, fame, a baby on the way and the love of his life by his side until the big C rips it all away. The fame and money and status remains the same but following Grace’s death Cole is also left to parent a little girl who will never know her mother and he also loses a part of himself that he can never get back. Cole hits rock bottom.
Harper is a nanny employed to look after Cole’s little girl from birth, she becomes part of the family and loves Cole’s daughter, she is a warm and outspoken person and a perfect fit.
After three years things begin to change with Harper and Cole, Cole begins to see Harper as more than his daughter’s nanny but never acts on his feelings through thoughts of guilt and he still misses his first love Grace.
Harper is the one to act on her feelings for Cole, the one who does the pushing for more from Cole and gets rejected more than once.
I felt for Harper, I felt for Cole too but it was frustrating how long it took Cole to finally allow someone else in and open his eyes to a future instead of living in the past.
The push and pull felt real, their circumstance felt real and I thought the author put across the inner turmoils of Cole’s thoughts and feelings well, at some points though I would have liked Harper’s pov, the whole book was told in first person, Cole’s pov and I just didn’t feel connected to Harper, she was just a character in Cole’s story and I do prefer more angst in my reads but this is definitely a beautiful story..
If you love slow-burn, the feeling you finally get from that hallelujah moment, love being absorbed in another person’s journey, then this is a book for you, definitely a Sunday kind of read.
ANOTHER LIFE is a bitter-sweet journey, a thought-provoking read with a happy ending.
This is the first book I have read by this author and I have to say that I will definitely be reading more. There was such raw emotion in this story and it was beautifully written. This book gave me all the feels! Watching Cole transform and battle with his feelings for Harper after such a terrible loss, was inspiring. It makes you feel hopeful that second chances can really happen and not everyone is limited to only 1 love per lifetime. Thank you, K. L. Shandwick for such a beautiful story!!
This is such a wonderfully written and heartfelt read. Cole is faced with living a life he never would have imagined after losing his love Grace. He is trying to raise his daughter, Layla, while dealing with his grief, lore of a single parent and all that life throws at you. He uses alcohol as a crutch .
This author deals head on and well with these real life issues. Such a great read.
Wow what did i just read? The opening chapters my eyes leaked so much i really thought they would never stop. This story is one that will grab hold of your heart and just will not let go. I cannot even begin to imagine how Cole felt at what should have been one of the happiness moments in his life. I have to give huge kudos to the author for not rushing this story and allowing her readers to really feel Cole’s grief and live his emotions. There were many times I felt like i was living this story alongside Cole. You lived through his grief and his fears, you felt his emotions trying to deal with his dilemma of could he ever truly love again. Harper, she was something else I defy any women to live through what she lived through yet still raise Cole’s daughter the way she has. How she holds on and brings Cole back from his grief is truly astounding. As for Layla, despite the circumstances and due in small way to Harper she is a sassy, intelligent child who you immediately feel drawn to. Beautifully written, thoroughly enjoyed this.
This book is one hell of an emotional roller coaster that you never want to get off the ride. I’d recommend you have tissues ready as well. Heartbreaking, great writing, drama, grief and sexiness are just some of the great things that you get from this story. I feel the true meaning of this read is to let the readers know that there is a way to puck yourself back up and go on with life even after you’ve hit rock bottom.
This book was absolutely amazing i could not put it down hifhly reccomend it
Oh wow, I needed a few hours after reading this book to formulate my review. This book was simply amazing. I literally cried even though I knew the gist of the book going in I was not mentally prepared for the emotional rollercoaster ride my feelings went on. This book is a must read. Highly recommended.
Cole’s story is devastatingly sad at first. He deals with so much anger, guilt, fear, and grief, when he should be overjoyed. But the joy doesn’t come for years, until Harper forces him out of his shell. The characters and world are well-developed. I thoroughly enjoyed this book.
This book is emotional, and sweet and all the things a good romance book should be. I really enjoyed it!
Grab Your Tissues!!
I can’t say I’ve ever read a book that had me in tears so many times. Now don’t take this the wrong way, because I thoroughly enjoyed the story and could not put it down!! This was my first time reading this author and it won’t be my last. I love how I was taken into the main character’s mind. Through her words,!I felt what he was feeling. When he cried, I cried. When he laughed, so did I. Wonderful, wonderful story!
I laugh and cry it’s a beautiful story
This is a story about love and loss in the same breath. What happened to Come and Grace is unthinkable. It was heart breaking. The letter Grace left for Cole was my undoing. Her plea for him to move on. Her blessing. It was a beautiful story.
This book is a tear jerking, page turner…so readers beware!! I loved theses characters. Cole, the heartbroken widower, grieving his first love, his soul mate, and his daughter’s mother. Harper is Lalya’s nanny and an important part of the family. How Cole moves forward with his grief and heals is compelling and wrenching. I would have preferred a duel POV and had a better understanding of Harper’s thoughts. Overall, an outstanding read!!
I’m always a sucker for a single Dad romance, throw in the off limits nanny and you have the plot for a great romance. An emotional second chance romance. I liked this very much.
The story starts out with Cole and his wife Grace having a baby, but this happy moment quickly turns to pain. Cole is left with a newborn that needs him. He does not handle things well for awhile and has a team of people raising his child. Eventually, 6 years later he is ready to move on and find love again. Ironically that love has been there all along. He falls for his child’s nanny. It’s predictable but does have a happy ending!
Another Life is a book filled with emotion. Having to deal with losing the love of your life will always be hard, but Cole knows he has to heal. Especially for his newborn daughter. This book will have you laugh and then have you cry your eyes out. Cole is definitely a book boyfriend.
This was a good read. There some emotional moments. There were also moments were the story dragged in a little too long but all in all a good read.
This story I found to be a bit repetitive and long winded at times without much of a story just the same things repeating themselves. Although overall I enjoyed the story I wasnt desperate to know what happened next or how the future unfolded. I cant say it was a bad story as it overall wasnt but I also cant say I loved it. It was just ok.
