Against the backdrop of an interesting story the history of how the United States spread across the south and displaced the Native American tribes that called this land home before the white man settled here is told. It is a very well-written combination of fact and fiction that really opens your eyes. Very relevant and interesting to read.
Excellent historical history
Excellent book taking place at the time of The Trail of Tears.
Not one of the best books I have read, but I liked it. You had to get used to the way the author wrote.
Our countries abuse of the native population was abominable and this story is interesting to read and to the point.
As serious and challenging as real life. Deeply tragic situations juxtaposed against joyful ones experienced by the same characters (again, like real life!) This author had obviously done much research on the history which informed the background of this book, yet the book was above all else a story. One that elucidated the situation in a way that no non-fiction work would have been able to do. WONDERFUL !!!
This is the story of a period in USA history that is almost hidden from view. The “trail of tears” was as a result of racism, greed, and bigotry in our early history. This book captures me from page 1 and held me in its grasp.
Historically very accurate but woven from the
experiences of a fictional character who is completely believavle.
the characters were strange. I really wanted to strangle the main character.
Disappointed simplistic
Very different in terms of topic and characters.
Very well written.
Mary Glickman’s fictional (but carefully researched) account of the Cherokee ( as one of five Native American groups) treatment during the shameful US government relocation is intense, highly emotional provoking, and extremely well written.
I liked the history of the imigret and of the Indians.
I”m liking the book. I’m still reading it. At first I thought yak but I kept at it and like the different actions happening but some of it is a little far fetched. But I want to finish the book to see what happens. Abe seemly being one of the main characters I like the way he is learning along the way growing up. I like the way ”Abe handles Mariam. She’s a character but was happy to find out she is alive even tho Abe thought she dead. I didn’t think so with her spunk. I like her character.
Also the cover of the book is what drew me in because I like Indians. I always choose a book by the looks of the cover. My book club people laugh at that but I’m finding their doing the same thing. I just think the cover HAS to draw you in otherwise forget it.
Hope this helps out with selling your books. I’m happy I chose the book…
I’ll give it a 4 star rating.
This is a historical romance set in the time of the trail of tears. I bought the book looking for a historical fiction about the trail of tears. This has great characters and some glimpses into the Cherokee culture of the time. If you want a in depth look at the native cultures and the trail of tears you need to look elsewhere.
I really enjoyed this book -read it in two days
It was a good book but I thought it would be more about the trail of tears.
Good reading if you are interested in history. I liked it.
I learned a loy about the history and plight of the Cherokee nation. Interesting ise of a Jewish imigrant family as a juxtaposition with the indiginous people.
