This book is a must read. Told from the heart of the individual who lived through it, this story touches the heart in so many ways. Absolutely fantastic!
I empathize with her but didn’t feel it needed two books to tell the story.
I was pulled into the book in the sense that I wanted to know what happened to this poor girl who lived a tragic life with a horrendous mother. It is horrible to think there are people out there who abuse their own children as she did. It is also sad how the child protective services worked in those days. I was intrigued and wanted to find out …
This book lends perspective. If you think your childhood was hard, be sure to read this book. I can’t wait to read the next installment of the author’s life as a young adult.
A look at the foster care system through the eyes of a child.
Interesting perspective on growing up in the “Care” (in the U.S. would be foster-care) system and how that affects a child. Well written, sad but easy to read.
The subject isn’t an easy one, but I thought the author highlighted her story in a realistic and thoughtful manner.
Poorly written
This was a story every social worker should read. I retired as a SW where I spent my career in Children’s Services and CPS. I tried to be a listening and caring person to the children that came under my care and I pray that all their lives will be better from the help I could give them under difficult circumstances.
It was hard to stay with maybe because of the nature of child abuse. But it was okay reading
A heartfelt accounting of a young woman growing up in the most unimaginable circumstances and persevering to live her life on her own terms.
Important that people know that these things go on in children’s lives. Brave children persevering through extremely difficult experiences and rejections and abuses.
If you don’t understand out child care system, this book shows real people falling through the crazy maze of children’s homes and foster care. Eye opener.
Sorry, I did not like this book. If she’d finished the narrative or story I might have felt different but she just led me to another book.
Well written story about a child’s will to survive despite her family.
Whether this was based on a true story or not; it was well written. The characters were so alive and believable. I read this book from start to finish w/o stopping for sleep. Immediately after finish this book, I bought the Amelias Destiny. Another good read. I recommend this book to all who like good reads.
This book is a very informative and sad story of one woman’s journey growing up in the child care system of the 70’s . Eye opening and heartbreaking. Well written. Easy to follow and read .
Interesting story but poorly written.
Interesting, but not something many people would enjoy. Mostly just facts about her childhood. Doesn’t go far enough into details.
Sad book, but we’ll worth reading. I finished it in less than a half day. I’d like to read the follow up books. The siblings never should have been separated.
