Although up to 90% of us pray, very few of us feel like we’ve mastered prayer. A Year of Living Prayerfully is a fascinating, humorous, globe-trotting exploration of prayer that will help you grow your own prayer life.
While filming a documentary about sex trafficking, Jared and Michelle Brock felt a deep need for prayer in their personal lives. In an effort to learn more about prayer, the couple traveled the globe, exploring the great Judeo-Christian prayer traditions: in mountains and monasteries, in Christian communities and cathedrals, standing up and lying down, every hour and around the clock.
Jared’s witty reflections on his fast-paced journey will both entertain and inspire you to think about your own prayer journey.
Join Jared on a rollicking modern-day prayer pilgrimage… you’ll never pray the same again.

I enjoyed this book. The geography, meetings of different cultures and certainly the
thought and teachings on our personal prayer life.
It was okay.
Entertaining, funny, whimsical… the author flies around the world exploring famous prayer warriors of history, which is fascinating. But spending only a few days in any given place, much is written about the sights, the food, the people, first impressions, and not a whole lot of depth in any one area. Maybe I just shared his disappointments too genuinely as he found that a lot of people “Christian” in title are not genuinely followers of Jesus. I think my favorite part of the whole book is his summary in the very end of practical ways to pray. This summarizes he more meaningful aspects of his journey, leaving out the wasted bunny trails (which were many!)
Enjoyed reading this book.
I found interesting him traveling all around the world to different churches.
This was an interesting journey to study prayer and I did enjoy the ride. I love the author’s conclusions at the end!
I learned about different religions in the world and what prayer meant to them. The author was able to interject humor in a tasteful way.
Interesting information about pray in different religions… the adventure of places he wnet/
Thought-provoking for sure. Underlined frequently. Definitely worth my time to read
This book is an excellent for a person who is interested in deepening their prayer life. I researches broad spiritual concepts from the historical perspective of multiple religious traditions and denominations and is youthful and unpretentious.
Interesting
Here is a young man, devoted to serving God by serving people in great need, and trying to deepen his relationship with God. Not a quick easy formula, not a short cut to getting what You want, but an honest man on an honest search. And he’s still searching, just like the rest of us. Or we should be–because the search is what needs to be found. Willing to cross conventional barriers, he finds a hint here, a gem there, and enriches us all as we follow his quest. I will be re-reading this again.
My only complaint – it would not load into my Kindle Fire so I had to read it on my laptop.
I loved this book. I was expecting something really conventional and I was delighted by the surprises on every page. This is a true open minded pilgrimage. From Canada to England to Jerusalem to North Korea the author visits spiritual places. Without sounding too sappy, I think this book changed my life. Every Christian should put it on their reading list. Yes, it’s that good.
I found this book boring and difficult to relate to.
This is a book written by a non-Christian traveling America and the World researching the many different brands of Christians. I loved it. The author took a light-hearted and serious look at how different believers pray and practice their religion. He started out covering Christians and expanded to cover Jews, Hindus and Buddlists. I found his writing very easy-to-read, interesting and fascinating. I loved the way he didn’t judge what was believed or practiced, and he reported on it. I highly recommend this documentory.
I enjoyed this book. Jared Brock travels to look at a variety of religions and meets people who talk to him about why prayer is or isn’t important to their religious views. These thoughts makes you evaluate your own prayers in your life.
Many times prayer becomes a duty and very repetitive. Through this book I gained perspective on different methods of prayer and becoming closer to God through communication in prayer. It will inspire you to change your prayer routine!
Many practical gems to be discovered in these interesting stories.
I love this book. It is written well and provides a lot of entertainment with some things that really make one think.
The writer is very interesting, an had a lot to share about the Jewish people, a good read.
