Sam and her husband Mathew have a three day vacation planned. They are going to see the Grand Canyon. They plan to leave their two boys with Sam’s parents while they are gone. Sam is kind of excited to have three days alone with her husband. She is looking forward to having some grown up time and grown up conversation.
One of the things they have planned is a train ride and once the train has started and they are given the ok to move around they plan on going to the train cart for something to eat but before they can make it to their destination chaos breaks out with all the passengers trying to find the closes exit.
There are screams coming from the front of the train. Sam and Mathew have no idea at first what is going on as they can’t see the front of the train with all the people blocking the way but when they run so do Sam and Mathew.
When they finally make their way to an exit and get off the train they run to the woods where they meet up with a lady Katrina or Kat who works on the train. Once they exit the train they take the time to hide and look around trying to figure out what is going. Once they see what all the chaos is all about they are shocked and can’t believe their eyes. What they see is people chasing people trying to eat them.
Sam and Mathew start making plans to get back to their boys as quick as possible and ask Kat to go with them. Kat’s sister was supposed to pick her up after work but when she calls to check on her she doesn’t get an answer. Kat decides to tag alone with Sam and Mathew to California. So when she doesn’t hear from her sister she leaves her a voicemail explaining where she will be and tells her to meet her there.
A Vacation From Hell may be a little on the short side but it packs a lot of punch. It has zombies and action packed on almost every page. I couldn’t wait to pick it up and once I did it was on. I sort of goofed up by starting it when I went to bed. Yeah I like to read sometimes before I fall asleep. But starting this book when you go to bed and then have to get up the next day for a doctor’s appointment is not a good idea. So when I finally made myself stop reading so I could get a little sleep I couldn’t turn my mind off because I kept thinking about it. I kept telling myself that I had to go to sleep so I could get up and read more of it before I left for the doctor’s appointment and then I could read more at the doctor’s office because I wasn’t the one having to see the doctor.
A Vacation From Hell grabbed my attention from the first page and never let go. I raced from page to page rooting for Sam and Mathew as they raced to get home to their boys fighting zombies all the way and meeting new people. A Vacation From Hell is one of those books I never want to end but when it did I wasn’t to unhappy as I had the next book A World Apart waiting for me.
A Vacation From Hell was such a great introduction into the Hell Bound Series and the world of zombies. I have never seen zombies quiet like the zombies in A Vacation From Hell as they are unique. The author threw a twist on the zombies. They are smarted than your average zombie and they are learning every day.
Come join Sam, Mathew and Kat as they race across the country fighting zombies at every stop as they make their way back to their boys. For me reading A Vacation From Hell was like The Walking Dead meets Z Nation. If you are into zombies like I am and I love me some zombies and you also like the two show mentioned then you will love, love, love A Vacation From Hell.
I LOVE zombie apocalypse books! The author did a fantastic job of holding my attention, I lost a bit of sleep reading this book. Well worth it though! The characters were relatable. As a mother myself I could not imagine the anxiety of trying to get back to my family, not knowing if they were safe would be the worst part.
This novella tells of a post-apocalyptic time whereas one person contracted a deadly, highly contagious disease that turned most into zombies. Honestly, I think there are quite a few people nowadays more prepared for zombies than a flood or earthquake. The main characters are a married couple that finally have a chance to go on vacation without their young boys. Getting back to them is where it gets intense.
The suspense kept me on the edge of my seat, the action grotesque and bloody. (I did say zombies right?) I was immensely impressed with how the story progressed. Gnarly cliffhanger aside… naughty author… absolutely a 5* read! I highly recommend this first installment in the Hell Bound series and I cannot wait to read the next!
