In this gripping, high-octane sequel to The Line Between, which New York Times bestselling author Alex Kava calls “everything you want in a thriller,” cult escapee Wynter Roth and ex-soldier Chase Miller emerge from their bunker to find a country ravaged by disease. Six months after vanishing into an underground silo with sixty-one others, Wynter and Chase emerge to an altered world. There is no … to an altered world. There is no sign of Noah and the rest of the group that was supposed to greet them when they surfaced–the same people Wynter was counting on to help her locate the antibiotics her gravely ill friend, Julie, needs.
As the clock ticks down on Julie’s life, Wynter and Chase embark on a desperate search for medicine and answers. But what they find is not a nation on the cusp of recovery but one decimated by disease. What happened while they were underground?
With food and water in limited supply and their own survival in question, Chase and Wynter must venture further and further from the silo. They come face-to-face with a radically changed society, where communities scrabble to survive under rogue leaders and cities are war zones. As hope fades by the hour and Wynter learns the terrible truth of the last six months, she is called upon again to help save a nation she no longer recognizes–a place so chaotic she’s no longer sure it can even survive.
With Tosca Lee’s signature “beautifully written and deeply unnerving” (Jonathan Maberry, New York Times bestselling author) prose, A Single Light is a breathless thriller of nonstop suspense.

Last year, I had this to say about THE LINE BETWEEN, the first book in this series:
An edge-of-your-seat, nonstop, apocalyptic rollercoaster of a thriller! As only she can, Tosca Lee pulls the reader in and refuses to let go until the final heart-pounding page!
This weekend, I read the follow up, A SINGLE LIGHT, and found it absolutely riveting. Tosca Lee is a born storyteller! Treat yourself to this series – you’ll be glad you did.
One of my fave reads of 2019!
WOW. I’d been intrigued by the premise of this series (I’m a sucker for a great post-apocalyptic novel), and I was pleasantly surprised. Even though I haven’t read book 1 yet (trust me, I WILL be reading it!), I found A SINGLE LIGHT to be paced like a train…it started out chugging along steadily, but by halfway through, it was barreling down the express tracks, and I had to stay up late into the night to see how it ended. The first person point of view is perfect for this novel and flawlessly executed, pulling me straight into the bold but conflicted main character’s head. This book shot to the top of my best reads of 2019 list and I know I’ll be recommending it often. Solid, hopeful moral tone, but I would call this a mainstream read versus strictly Christian fiction.
The one thought running through my head as this story unwound was that Tosca Lee is definitely a gifted storyteller.
A Single Light (The Line Between Series) by author Tosca Lee had me hooked and fastened to that book for hours! Oh My Goodness it was non-stop action in a matter of a few days and then critical hours for Wynter and Chase as they try to find antibiotics for Julie. Once I started reading about the precarious situation Wynter finds herself within the silo and later on the road, I had to keep reading into the wee hours. Even though this is the second book for The Line Between, it can be read as a stand-alone book without any problem understanding what has happened. I will not post spoilers, but A Single Light is every bit as good as The Line Between. The plot is high energy and purposeful for the survival of Wynter and her loved ones during what seems to be the ending of the world as all have known it in the past. The virus which causes devastating dementia for all who contract the illness is a death sentence. The food and fuel supplies are short and being hoarded and bartered by criminals. There are many scenes in this novel which are heart-rending and some will have the reader on the edge of their seat!
Oh, poor sweet Otto and precious Noah! You have to read to find out how even in the midst of the deepest of despair there are those few souls who harbor light and shine kindness to others as encouragement and rekindle faith for another day.
I appreciate the opportunity to have read an advanced copy and to offer a review.
A Single Light is the second in Tosca Lee’s apocalyptic series about — guess what? — a pandemic that ravages America and a woman who faces it with courage and conviction. It is eerily familiar, even though it was published before our own pandemic. If you like fast-moving, action-packed fiction you’ll love this book.
Wow. Definitely get the worst of humanity in this book. Chaos. I didn’t know if I wanted to be turning the pages. A conclusion to the duology, but definitely not feel good. Well written.
I couldn’t put it down! Seriously, I was so engrossed in the book I finished it over a weekend.
I couldn’t put this book down! I connected with the characters and the situations Audra found herself in. And I absolutely loved Luka.
a great follow on to The Line Between.
Wow, another phenomenal story written by Tosca Lee!! I have found that sequels can be tricky and some stories are spot on while others are a flop… this sequel is spot on!! This story picks up after the conclusion of The Line Between.
In the first book 63 people (including Wynter, Chase, Truly, Julie, and Lauren) are all in an underground bunker to wait out the chaos sweeping across the United States (& world) from a very rapid and contagious disease. The plan is for the group to wait out the disaster for 6 months in hopes that when they emerge from the bunker the materials needed to manufacture a cure (that Wynter delivered to Ashley) will have proved successful and the vaccine/cure will have been distributed throughout the United States and world. They are hoping to find a somewhat ‘normal’ existence and be able to have things go back to normal.
The beginning of the novel describes how things are going in the underground bunker and how the people are dealing with being confined for so long. The people have a variety of ways that they deal with the confinement, and it isn’t always the greatest (especially when their only ‘communication’ with the outside world freezes and then doesn’t appear again at all). Eventually, not everything goes as planned and due to a malfunction the doors of the underground bunker open earlier than they were supposed to.
The novel continues with how the world is progressing, and the people underground quickly discover that things are not better yet at all. The novel continues and depicts Wynter and Chase’s experiences attempting to desperately find antibiotics for Wynter’s friend Julie (whom will die without them).
This novel is fast paced and very intense!! I definitely couldn’t put the book down and, just like the last novel, I’m still thinking about it even though I finished the book several hours ago. The characters we meet throughout the novel and what happens to them is well written (even though certain events had me crying). I love Wynter, she seemed very realistic to me, and I thoroughly enjoyed how she interacted/reacted to the situations arising in her life. Chase (her love interest) is the type of guy anyone would love to be around too. The ending was good however, the romantic side of me would have liked more of a detailed ‘happily ever after’ (even though that’s not always realistic). Thank you to Tosca Lee for a phenomenally written series that kept me on the edge of my seat!! I’m very very happy I was able to read this book (and wouldn’t mind another one… maybe set a few years in the future?!)
An excellent follow-up to book one
I enjoyed book one in this series THE LIGHT BETWEEN but wanted more about the pandemic spreading across the country. Well, book two delivers.
Wynter, Chase and Truly have found shelter (along with others from book one) in an underground silo with sixty other people in Nebraska. It has been prepared to keep its occupants safe for six months as the flu-borne pandemic rages above ground.
But at the end of six months, they climb out of the silo to desolation and they must test themselves to the utmost to save themselves and the ones they love.
This is a great post-apocalyptic series. I enjoy the characters (especially after they got out of the cult featured in book one). There’s lots of action, surprises and one new character I dearly loved.
I recommend this book (along with book one) to readers of post-apocalyptic thrillers, thrillers about pandemics and anyone that enjoys a well-written story.
I received this book from Howard Books through Net Galley in the hopes that I would read it and leave an unbiased review.
When I heard author Tosca Lee was writing a sequel to The Line Between, published January 2019, and that it would be released before the end of the same year, my excitement knew no bounds.
A thriller, A Single Light, continues the story of Wynter Roth and Chase Miller as they emerge from the underground silo where they have hidden for six months. Along with 60 others, Wynter and Chase have lived together in a highly upgraded and technologically advanced world created by a man named Noah, a man who promised to help them all upon their re-entry into the world.
But, Noah is missing and someone or something has pretty much looted or decimated the farm, leaving Wynter and Chase without resources. Some of those living in the silo are desperately ill and Wynter is determined to obtain the medication they need, especially Wynter’s friend Julie.
Without the basic resources to live such as food, potable water, clothing, and even gas for a vehicle, Chase and Wynter find themselves on a mission fraught with danger. Whole cities have been destroyed, completely abandoned. Yet other cities aren’t abandoned but have been taken over by a remnant of people who will do anything to maintain control of those who have yet to succumb to the sickness that has killed so many. Hospitals have become prisons for those exposed to the devastating sickness; doors bolted and chained; no one in or out, and those within left to viciously destroy each other in their attempts to survive.
As the window of time shortens, Wynter and Chase become even more desperate to find the antibiotic that will save Julie. And those that are searching for Wynter, for the cure she carries with her, are determined to kill her before she can deliver, people who will stop at nothing, absolutely nothing.
I highly recommend A Single Light by Tosca Lee. Thoroughly enjoyed reading this book.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher and am under no obligation to write a positive review. All thoughts and opinions therein are solely my own, and freely given.
“Rage and grief are twins you birth at once. With gnashed teeth and high, tight keens. Until there’s nothing but pain and stupor.”
Wow. And I had thought The Line Between (book 1) had been intense, action-filled, and terrifying (in a good, suspenseful thriller kind of way). This second book, A Single Light, tops the first. Really. How does Tosca Lee do it? I’m not sure. But, man, this book will keep you bouncing on the edge of your toes, anticipating…..waiting…..for the next bend in the plot that will take the story in a direction you never saw coming. It should be read only after the first book though. This book picks up right where the first book ended and the overarching plot is too rich in details and complex to be able to understand by reading the second book in the series as a stand alone.
The narrative is flawless as the obsessive-compulsive Wynter speaks in first person present tense (thus allowing so many surprises and twists in the plot) in an apocalyptic world where a dementia-inducing prion has merged with a flu-like virus to decimate the US. Chase, her protector and boyfriend, and Wynter traverse towns and cities in search of medication for their sick and dying friend and they witness heart-breaking acts of self-sacrifice and love but also unthinkable acts of raging sin, evil, and darkness. Despite their brokenness, regretful pasts, and current failures, the love between Wynter and Chase does light their way. Though they despair and feel that “this life – in this world- is too hard. Too filled with pain. And too far gone. The lights that made it worth saving blinking out like stars,” they cling onto the small hope that they would see their loved ones again and that hope keeps them reaching for the next rung in the ladder to climb up. This is a thriller that you won’t be able to put down. The intensity in the plot mounts steadily each chapter until the very end, and even then, I’m sure you’ll be waiting for something else to happen to turn the plot upside down again. If you enjoy a fast-paced, brilliantly crafted suspense thriller, this is a must-read book for 2019.
I received a copy of the book from Howard Books and was under no obligation to post a positive review. All comments and opinions are solely my own.
I read dystopian fiction sparingly because, well, it paints a dark and grim picture.
But Ms. Lee pulls the reader right into the story with characters who came to life on the page. I came to care for them immediately, feeling first the anxiety of time in the silo, then the despair at their discovery once they emerged.
The world Ms. Lee paints is vivid and frightening, and all too realistic. The situations Wynter and Chase encounter, terrifying and seemingly hopeless.
But in the midst of the ravaged landscape, hope. That Wynter fought her way through one obstacle and hurdle after another, that Chase stayed with her, for the sake of even the chance to save their friend’s life—that’s a vivid image of John 15:13, “Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one’s life for his friends.”
This is a fantastic, gripping story, a fight for survival. A story of truly a light in the darkness.

#Blogwords, Tuesday Reviews-Day, #TRD, Book Review, A Single Light, Tosca Lee, A Line Between
End of the World thrillers are interesting. They take on a what-if scenario and run with it. As for Tosca Lee with her The Line Between and A Single Light, Lee crafts a world that begins with a cult escape and turns into a vaccine that is needed to save the world from early dementia. I highly recommend reading these two novels in order or the second novel really won’t make much sense. I even went back and re-read the first one before diving into the second one because I read so many books in between that I couldn’t remember much of the first one. Boy, am I glad that I did. As for the plot of A Single Light, it moves quite rapidly. I recommend sitting aside an entire day with no interruptions, which I know is practically impossible. Lee is wonderful at ending each chapter on a cliffhanger, so of course, I wanted to keep reading and find out what happened. This story had so many twists and turns that I loved it. The plot is fast paced and had me flipping through the pages. The characters of Wynter and Chase are fabulous. I love how quickly Wynter fit into the world she escaped to and how much she did to save others. She has a heart to save not only her niece but anyone she comes in contact with. Chase, the hero, is an ex-Marine who does anything for Wynter, even love her when she doesn’t want to be loved. Tosca Lee crafted a wonderful end of the world thriller that kept me glued to the page. If this is the last one, then I’m sad to see these characters go, I would love to see what happens next. How do they actually rebuild the world? Fans of The Hunger Games might enjoy this novel. I sure did.
I received a complimentary copy of A Single Light by Tosca Lee from Howard Books, but the opinions stated are all my own.
An amazing follow up to book 1! A Single Light is a fast paced thriller in an apocalyptic world building of epic portion! It’s a must read!
This book was a thrilling and very enjoyable ride.
I received a free ARC for my honest and unbiased review.
A Single Light picks up where “The Line Between” Left off. A virus as old as the hills with no vaccine has been unearthed and is ravaging America. A few over 60 people have been inside a bunker that has been time locked and sealed by a forward looking “pepper” of sorts, in order to preserve a few human remnants that are untainted by the virus. The bunker has everything needed to sustain life for the 6 months that it will be locked and sealed. This book takes you through life inside the highly sophisticated bunker and into a whole new world. Not wanting to give away any details that will spoil the fun for you, I can positively say that at no point was I bored with the story line or feeling as though it dragged its feet at any point. The story just flows like a raft through a calm river and heads into som very rough Rapids and yes there is a waterfall. I thoroughly enjoyed how the story line steadily picks up speed and sends you into a very rough and wild ride. Tosca made me feel like I was there with the characters and connected to every emotion. Like all of her other books I give this a very hefty 5 STARS. I Highly recommended this book and look forward to much much more from Tosca Lee.
Another fascinating read from Tosca Lee!! This book does not disappoint as the sequel to The Line Between. Tosca effortlessly weaves poignant emotions and clever dialogue into the non-stop action. My heart was racing more than once as I turned the pages. I did not see that ending coming!
Tosca Lee is a masterful storyteller! A Single Light is different from any other apocalyptic genre out there. Instead of the story taking place in the aftermath of a devastating event, Tosca places you right in the middle of the event as it is occurring. It gripped me from beginning to end and I could not stop myself from turning to the next page. The style how Tosca writes has a natural flow that makes the story read easily and quickly. This allows the reader to become immersed in the novel through the use of language and syntax which naturally assists it to become an engaging Thriller.
So good. Winter jumps right into the action and her adventures kept me turning pages. Happy to recommend this one.
A Single Light picks up right where The Line Between left us. In Tosca Lee’s trademark style she ramps up the story creating tension, action, and desperation. All of which keeps the reader holding their breath and hanging on for dear life. At least this reader.
I love series books for loads of reasons of which are getting to spend more time with favored character’s getting to know them better and having a lot of questions answered. Which Ms. Lee does very well in this second book.
For me, the scary thing about these two books is that everything that happens is something I could see happening in our world today. Tosca Lee definitely has her finger on the pulse of our crazy world to create not only a realistic story as well as a real world the story takes place in.
I’m speaking about four months early, but I can see this book being on my end of the year top reads list. I highly recommend this book and series!
