The title… I was smiling and intrigued from the first time I spotted the title. And *snort* its the NUN-rated edition.
I’m already familiar with the author’s earlier Dogs of Fire MC series so I was curious about this spin-off story going on in the Dogs of Fire world. New readers can easily pick this one up without having read the older ongoing series without trouble since this pulls in new lead characters and a parallel story line.
I found this a light story with some heartwarming and thoughtful elements. The romance is the focus, but the suspense is a solid element to keep things interesting too. A woman who grew up with nuns and wanted to be a nun, but really wasn’t cut out for that vocation and a guy raised in a dark, gritty world come together. It was an intriguing situation.
Sadie was a mystery to me much of the time, I’ll admit. I had no idea why she got bent out of shape half the time’s she did or at least to the extent she did. She’s naive and vulnerable, but she’s also defensive and snarky. She needs a bit of help transitioning out into the world but sometimes she gets a chip on her shoulder and takes it wrong. She wants to be thought to have arrived before her train is barely leaving the station if that makes sense.
Ryder, now he wasn’t a mystery. He’s a steamroller once he gets going. He’s alpha to the core and has the need to be in control and keep those he cares about safe- bubble wrap probably isn’t out of the question. But, this need makes sense when his past and his sister’s issues come into play. Sadie was a good fit for him and kept him on his toes just like he had the patience and understanding not to see her as an oddball, but a person who just needs some time.
The suspense part seemed to be leading in one direction with Ryder’s missing sister, but then it became something huge and much more. Sadie finds out just how dark Ryder’s world was and has to figure out if she’ll stand with him or sit this one out.
I had a good time with this side story in the Dogs of Fire universe. I think lovers of that series as well as those who enjoy romantic suspense with a stronger dose of spicy romance should definitely snag this up.
It had an interesting premise, with the ex-nun and bad-boy relationship. But the dialouge was pedantic and demeaning, as she was constantly referred to as “Babe”, both by her boyfriend and his friend! Then she kept referring to her boyfriend/fiance as “Honey”- just archaic. No real character or relationship development.
I could not get past how many times the female character said the word “no” to the male love interest only to have him ignore her “for her own good” to protect her from the world he came from. I don’t care what he was trying to protect her from, when a woman says no, the man needs to respect it. Period. There was nothing romantic about this guy bullying her and ignoring it when she told him no…even to a simple ride home versus the choice to take a taxi or the bus. I couldn’t finish the book… I quit after he followed her into a female-only area of a convent, insisting he wanted to finish a conversation after she attempted to break up with him.
I tried to finish this book, but couldn’t. After awhile, I just couldn’t take it any more. The plot is so unrealistic as to be painful, and the book really needed to be proof-read.
Sadie was a nun, raised in an abbey by her great aunt. Her aunt, the Mother Superior, decides she just isn’t cut out to be a nun and kicks her out, kindly. Immediately, she runs into a guy she met in a bar, Ryder. Ryder is a bully who owns six bars and a mansion overlooking the city. Ryder is 29 years old. His father was in a motorcycle “club” and is trying to ruin Ryder and his sister’s lives. He kidnaps and sells his daughter into white slavery, along with 12 other girls.
Ryder has a FBI friend who tells him anything he wants to know and lets him go on operations with him. Really?? The priest at the abbey in an undercover agent.
The sex scenes were contrived, not at all realistic. The book was 258 pages long, but would have been only about 200 if Ryder didn’t call Sadie “baby” every time he speaks to her. And, for an ex-nun, this girl has a serious lust-thing going and uses words I just don’t see anyone raised as she was, using. Sadie’s words are cruder than that of all the motorcycle club’s.
I kept wondering what I was going to say in a review that wouldn’t totally trash this book. Finally convinced myself that the readers who rated this book so highly had totally different tastes than mine. Evidently they don’t care about plot, continuity, or being able to believe this could actually happen. And, the blurb talks about it being funny. Didn’t see it. But, if they bought it for the soft porn aspect, they will be disappointed.
I was not sure what the expect when I started this book but I LOVED it! Sadie is former Nun who is trying to figure out the world and Ryder is just the man to show her the ropes. I loved their romance, it was sweet and steamy. Throw in some intrigue and plot twists and you have a great book! Cant wait to read the second book in the series!
Love love love! This book is wonderful
Too many “honey” and “baby” name calling. Got raunchy in the sexual parts. All in all, a waste of time.
A little too steamy for me. I liked the concept but it was a bit unbelievable.
It didn’t grab my interest. I guess just not for me. From the title, I was excited to read it and was so disappointed I only read about 20 pages and deleted it
Loved the title, but could not even finish the book. It jumped from the main character being a nun, to just pages later, she is going on a date with a guy who calls her “babe”. Not a book for me!
Predictable but funny. Quick and easy read.
This was a fun book to read but I found the main character, a lapsed nun, to be more worldly and street wise than I would have expected of a person who has led a very protected existence. It was predictable but still enjoyed reading it.
It was a cute story but I felt Ryder called Sadie ” babe”so much it was like every other word
I was caught off guard and charmed to my toes
a different premise for an action story. enjoyed the different twists. a good love story as well
I really enjoyed this book. I liked the characters and the story and couldn’t put it down.
The story gets boring, too much build up and then anticlimatic. Also the characters say babe and honey or sweetie way too much for regular dialog, it’s distracting.
I can’t wait for more from this author. Great read.
I have read this and the next one in the series, “A Nun Goes To Jail.” A Very good book, I found it to be entertaining and funny. I purchased the next book because I enjoyed the first so much. It was quick easy reading. The book held my interest. I purchased it because of the title. I wanted to know more. I would recommend it.
A bit too much of a ‘damsel in distress’ story for me. The dialogue gets a little awkward with how much the love interest calls the main character ‘baby.’
