Rose Pearson’s story is a sweet romance about starting over. I truly enjoyed reading this inspirational book about how a girl down on her luck find a family in a most unusual way.

This was an exceptionally interesting book. The way the character Lady Frances liked to do things her own way and not always do as the ton expects. Taking in an unknown women who is almost dead is one of them.
The woman being Anna who is a genuinely good person with a not so good background but a heart of gold. There is also an exciting twist to the secret life that Lord Comey leads and having his true character revealed in the end. I enjoyed the slow attraction that Edward and Anna had to each other. The feeling developing over an entire years time and sharing all of the goose bumps with us along the way.
What an emotionally moving story. This is a quick read and is moderately paced. It has a large emotional range. Very realistic. Feelings from sadness, to regret, to determination, pain, unworthiness, indebtedness, admiration, adoration and many, many more. A cornucopia of emotions. The story and the characters were different than your normal Regency/Victorian romance. The story of a penniless young woman who grew up with an abusive father who drank, gambled, stole and cheated. His reputation was so bad that when he was laid to rest no one came to his funeral. Anna was alone in the world. As she walked along the road, she was struck down by a passing high-flying phaeton. It threw her into the ditch and she broke her leg. With the little strength she had she crawled to the road and passed out. When Edward, his godmother and his parent’s carriage drove by he saw her. They stopped and rushed her to the carriage. Little did she know the type of people who had rescued her were like but her life would be turned upside down and inside out. A delightful story of love, loyalty and family.
What a wonderful read! Such a mix of enchanting characters and delightful storyline. I loved the situations that went on and how each character reacted.
This story had plenty in it: an injured homeless heroine Anna, the hero Edward, Lord Westerham who found her lying on the side of the road, his godmother the benefactress Lady Tremaine who took her in, and her selfish dastardly nephew Lord Comey who is just after her money. Anna was not of Edward’s social class, but he couldn’t help falling for her and wanting to take care of her. This was a clean Christmas romance with plenty of suspense.
This is a book that makes one have hope for humanity, and moves one to be like Lady Tremaine and her companions who reach out to a person in need.
Rescued from death at the side of the road, orphaned Anna Campbell must make a new life for herself. Lady Tremaine, one of her saviors, takes her under her wing and we watch Anna blossom under the Lady’s kind hand. The villain, a relation of Lady Tremaine, appears early on and provides the dark counter-balance in this story to the goodness and light of the other 3 major characters. A clean Regency romance with a HEA for our H & h.

She needed to get to the next town where she had a better chance finding a position somewhere of some kind…while walking all day and almost turning dark she had hopes that finally there was a carriage coming to get a ride into town, but instead it didn’t even slow down almost running her over, caused her to fall in a ditch and brake her leg…she knew she had to get out so someone might find her, dragging herself out of the ditch she was exhausted and in so much pain. Edward and his family with his godmother was going to church Sunday morning and found Anna laying on the side of the road barely alive… they took her into their carriage and took her home… and the rest my friends is for you to read and find out all the wonderful and loving things to come to Anna and even some not so good things. This was a good read for the holiday season regarding a woman down on her luck and in dire straits being rescued by a Lord. There is some drama with a nephew in the story that gives it a bit of suspense. A touching story for this time of year but can be read any time.

Anna Campbell’s charlatan father died and left her penniless and alone. She had an Aunt Hannah somewhere, but she really didn’t know her or where to find her. She begins a long walk to Winchester to find work since she has no place to live. Along the way, a reckless driver in a phaeton knocks her down she is seriously injured, her body tumbling into a hidden ditch. Knowing she would die unless she could get back to the road to be found, she screamed out her agony as she slowly pulled herself out of the ditch.
Edward, Lord Westerham, who will one day become Earl of Winterton, was heading to Winchester for Mass with his family. Lady Frances, Countess Tremaine, his mother’s dearest friend and his godmother, laughed as he told of his exploits in London. She was eccentric, preferring to drink port and smoke cigars, and discuss politics and economics with the men rather than retire to the drawing-room with the other women. Edward thoroughly enjoyed her company. Their carriage was moving slowly due to the ruts in the rain-drenched road. Edward saw a bundle of clothes, then it moved! They stopped and put the unconscious young woman in their carriage.
Lady Frances came to see Anna when she woke after two weeks and made her feel welcome and accepted. She insisted on seeing Anna every day to check her progress. Anna noticed that even the servants were treated with kindness and warmth. They never took extra advantage of her giving them time off when they needed it. The only time things became difficult were when Lord William Comey arrived to visit his great aunt, asking for more money since he gambled his allowance away, and he was arrogant and rude to the staff. He arrived before Christmas Eve, without notification, and Anna shivered at the thought of meeting him. His aunt asked him not to bother the staff since they were preparing for the annual Christmas ball that evening and had much work to do. But, of course, Lord William said he merely wanted the butler to take his things to his room, unpack and press them, and have something prepared for him to eat. His aunt’s face displayed disgust for a moment as she turned away. He reminded Anna very much of her shifty gambler father.
As Lady Frances and Anna become closer, Lady Francis asks Anna to be her Companion and gives her lessons on being a lady of society. It would open up a whole new life to her. She watched everyone below in the ballroom from the musician’s hidden balcony. Lady Frances gave only a brief, short nod to Lord William who scowled as he walked away, not liking her dismissal. But another handsome young man approached and Lady Frances and the woman sitting beside her genuinely smiled and greeted him. Prinny, the Prince Regent, called to him and embraced his old friend. Lord Edward was surprised he had been able to attend with his busy schedule, but he was delighted to see him. When Lord Edward went upstairs he met Anna and they chatted about Lady Frances’ asking her to be her Companion. He thought it was a great idea and offered to come by and also help teach her the skills she needed.
Only Lord William was not happy with the closeness developing between his Aunt Frances and Anna, fearing that his inheritance might be in jeopardy. He had already told Anna his first act when he inherited would be to tear down the estate and to fire all of the staff! What would he do to stop the two women from becoming close? Was Anna in danger?
This was an excellent story with remarkable characters that make a lasting impression upon the reader. The story line was intriguing and well-paced. There are surprises that will come out later, so be sure to grab a copy of this wonderful book and enjoy every moment of your reading experience!

Another well written , engaging read. The characters are well developed, I loved Anna who was strong & resilient, I also liked Edward who realised that the more he came to know Anna the more feelings he had for her. The pace was good & there was the intrigue of the villain & what he had planned. Overall a captivating traditional read which I read in a couple of sittings
My thanks to Booksprout & the author for a copy.
A really great Christmas Regency book. I really enjoyed reading Anna’s story and how she became a Lady and got a family for Christmas. An interesting read that I didn’t want to put down.
Love this great clean story and fun characters. Edward such a charming important man who loves his unconventional Godmother Lady Tremaine, love this lady who helps with the recovery of Anna the caring sweet young lady.
Of course every story has a villain and Lord Comey fits/plays his part well, too well, hence he finds himself in trouble and he deserves what he gets.
Grab a copy and see what a difference a year can make.
“A Family for Christmas” by Rose Pearson
I was gifted an ARC copy of this story by the author via BookSprout with the hope that I would post an honest review. Well, honestly, I really liked this story. But maybe not quite as much as some of her other stories. It is a fun sweet clean romance story, and must be a Regency story because ‘Prinny’ is one of the characters, in a walk-on minor cameo(?) role. I expect you have read the description of the story and decided to look at reviews before deciding to take the plunge and jump into this story. I say, “Go for it !!”. This story is worth the read !
Everyone wears a mask, even within a family.
When all seemed lost, fate stepped in and Anna Campbell’s life would be forever changed….for the better.
A Family for Christmas by Rose Pearson is a sweet and clean Christmas Regency romance with interesting characters and relationships. The hero and heroine are both very likable and together they have a tender chemistry. The story is engrossing and there are even a couple of unexpected plot twists. All in all this is an enjoyable read with a smile-worthy ending.
