#1 NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLERA landmark volume in science writing by one of the great minds of our time, Stephen Hawking’s book explores such profound questions as: How did the universe begin—and what made its start possible? Does time always flow forward? Is the universe unending—or are there boundaries? Are there other dimensions in space? What will happen when it all ends?Told in language we … ends?
Told in language we all can understand, A Brief History of Time plunges into the exotic realms of black holes and quarks, of antimatter and “arrows of time,” of the big bang and a bigger God—where the possibilities are wondrous and unexpected. With exciting images and profound imagination, Stephen Hawking brings us closer to the ultimate secrets at the very heart of creation.

A wonderfully readable science overview. He’s one of the smartest people but he can write clearly and explain difficult concepts in language we all can understand.
Mind-blowing. Excellent.
He can be difficult to read but what he has to say is very profound…
people who don’t read this book risk being ignorant fools.
Educational
If you are looking for a discussion on the existence of black holes and how they work this is the book for you. I found event horizon information very interesting.
Fascinating detain . Complex science made understandable
Makes science understandable.
Read this when it first came out. I thought I was smart. After having to read much of it a few times to understand I found out I wasn’t.
I love reading books about science and astronomy, but found this very had to read. Considering how popular it was, I was surprised at how uninspiring it was.
It might not be possible to read & understand this book on the first go-through. It reflects the author’s genius for being able to live & think in another world, one known to a few cosmologists, one that makes no sense to us lay persons. I would like to say that I understood what was explained, but truthfully my grasp is tenuous, despite repeated readings and reflections.
I have read that this is a very popular book and I cannot see how. It describes a world different than our everyday one. I do appreciate the author’s trying to illuminate and educate us on the important concepts of modern cosmology, whilst understanding that my ability to reason about the world they describe is quite limited.
Occasionally Hawking over-uses exclamation points, so that becomes a minor annoyance. Otherwise, an excellent book!!!! (lol)
Difficult to understand, but amazing, and humbling to realize what I don’t know.
Not new, but astounding revelations for the non-physicist.
A Brief History of Time was brilliantly written and gave me an understanding of physics and astronomy that was priceless.
Thaïs is why I admire Astrophycist
A brief history of time by Stephen hawking is a great introduction to astrophysics and the universe. There is no math in this book yet everything is explained well and it is not dumbed down.
Accessible Hawking, for anyone interested in the edge of science and the universe itself.
It’s not fiction. Why do all of the markers pertain to fiction? Full of interesting concepts and information. Geeky and enjoyable.
It is a seminal book, a non-patronizing treatment of a difficult to understand subject by a world-class physicist and astronomist. It’s a terrific book.
