#1 NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLERA landmark volume in science writing by one of the great minds of our time, Stephen Hawking’s book explores such profound questions as: How did the universe begin—and what made its start possible? Does time always flow forward? Is the universe unending—or are there boundaries? Are there other dimensions in space? What will happen when it all ends?Told in language we … ends?
Told in language we all can understand, A Brief History of Time plunges into the exotic realms of black holes and quarks, of antimatter and “arrows of time,” of the big bang and a bigger God—where the possibilities are wondrous and unexpected. With exciting images and profound imagination, Stephen Hawking brings us closer to the ultimate secrets at the very heart of creation.

I read this book many years ago and really don’t remember specifics, but overall I remember it as being a great read.
A book for those interested in space and time. Only entertaining for those interested in physics. I loved it. Hawking was our Einstein.
Its a very famous book in the world of popular physics and cosmology but in my view is not that well written in terms of explaining the key concepts. I actually studied physics and I think it would be difficult to get much out of this book unless the reader already had some background in quantum physics and general relativity.
I enjoyed this book. As A fan of Hawking and his work I found it to be both entertaining and enlightening.
Excellent, easy to understand
The classic book on astrophysics for the non trained but interested. I found it completely absorbing although I didn’t think he really had the last word on the Big Bang. It still needed some explaining for me. Everything else was fabulous. HIghly recommended.
This should be a volume in every educated person’s personal library. Add it to the science canon, next to the works of Darwin, Feynman, Watson & Crick, and others.
Definitely one of the Top Ten Books to Read Before You Die.
Probably the best explanation of relativity for the layman.
A stripper reading about physics, surely you must be joking. I’m not and don’t call me Shirley. A strong cup of coffee was required for this one, not because it was boring but because it called for fierce focus. It goes without saying that Stephen Hawking was a smart guy. He was a great writer as well. Physics (and math if I’m being honest), was a subject I mostly blew off in school, but as I accepted my atheism, I ran across some concepts that I just didn’t understand. This book helped me gain a basic layman’s grasp on the subject of astrophysics.
This is not a book for everyone. I have a scientific background, which I think you need to understand Hawking’s premisses.
Brilliant. We each have a responsibility to mankind.
Incredible story
thoroughly enjoyed insights
Make no mistake this is tough reading and you must really want to learn about his theories to make it to the end.
Sometimes a bit too technical.
A Brief History of Time is a great book. Stephen Hawkins takes very complex topics and explains them extremely well in an abbreviated number of pages. He makes the topics very interesting. I’ve read the book multiple times over the years. I highly recommend it to anyone interested in quantum physics and the big bang theory.
The best that science had to offer.
This wasn’t an easy book to read. After I finished it I found the audio version which helped a lot. It’s not an easy topic and Hawking did a great job so well worth the effort. The Universe in a Nutshell was even better. More pictures

Stayed up all night to read this book in one sitting. Literally un-put-down-able! A true bucket list book.
difficult to read because most of us are not rocket scientists. but worth struggling through even to grasp a bit of it.
