A ROYAL STANDALONE ROMANCE from the NYT Bestselling Author of The Pact, Bad at Love & The Swedish PrinceAt first glance I probably seem like any good-looking guy in their late twenties. I have an obscene amount of confidence, a tattooed body sculpted by the Nordic gods, and I love the ladies as much as they love me. If I’m not BASE jumping or car racing, I’m chasing other devious thrills with … other devious thrills with the woman of the week. And that’s fine if you’re the average single guy.
But I’m not the average single guy.
I’m Crown Prince Magnus of Norway and my latest scandal just landed my entire royal family in hot water.
Now the only way the monarchy can save face is for me to smarten up – publicly. If I don’t, I’ll no longer be heir apparent to the throne. So it’s either I abdicate my future role as King or…
I get married.
To a blue-blooded stranger.
Enter Princess Isabella of the tiny country of Liechtenstein.
Quiet, intelligent, and uniquely beautiful, Ella doesn’t like this arrangement any more than I do and she’s not afraid to show it. She says I’m a womanizer, that I don’t take anything seriously, that my ego should be taken down a few pegs, and I think she aims to make me miserable for the rest of my life.
But even as our arranged marriage becomes a war of wit and words, I’m determined to break through Ella’s prim and proper façade to find the wild, sexual and risk-taking woman underneath. I want to uncover the Queen inside her.
The only question is – will she let me?
The Wild Heir is a standalone royal romance and a spinoff of The Swedish Prince but it is not necessary to read that book beforehand as The Wild Heir is about different characters

If you thoght Karina Halle’s royals could not get any better, I am very happy to tell you they absolutely do! After finishing The Swedish Prince I had high hopes that Karina would write Magnus story. He sounded like such a wild royal and, as the title of his book says, he surely is a wild heir. And what better way to see all sides of this man than when he meets his match in the woman he must marry to avoid more scandals in the family, am I right?
So, The Wild Heir is Karina’s newest release and it can be read as a standalone novel. Still, Magnus made his first appearance in The Swedish Prince, since he is one of Viktor’s best friends. Now let’s focus on his story. Magnus is next to the throne in Norway and he is a scandalous prince. He loves extreme sports, he loves expressing his opinion and he loves women. Well, his latest scandal is too much for the royal family and now he has to find a solution. The solution? He has to marry a blue-blooded stranger: Isabella of Liechtenstein. The thing is Ella does not like him. Or that is what it seems.. Will Magnus be able to uncover Ella and let her see all his layers? Let’s find out!
If I’m rattling her cage, she’s rattling mine. Only I’m not sure she’d like the animal inside of it.
I loved this story. I aboslutely loved it. Who does not love a royal marriage of convenience turning into a hell of a love story, right? Magnus and Ella are such a fantastic couple. I loved their banter, the funny moments, the surprises, the sexual tension, the relatioship between the royal family and the off-the-charts chemistry between the main characters. The Wild Heir had everything I enjoy in Karina’s romances and it surely did not dissapoint with the couple this author delivered. They are amazing together.
I want to ruin him and I want him to ruin me. The need, the power, is intoxicating.
One day he’ll rule this country.
Right now I want to rule him.
The fairytale feel to this story made it even better. I love arranged marriages turning into real love and Magnus and Elle made me melt all over with the emotions they brought out in me. Yes, the tension and their connection was mind-blowing but when it got difficult and emotional? OMG, even better! To see these two fall in love and also discover all their layers together, it was so beautiful. It was great to see them fight for their love, to see them growing as individuals and as couple and to see them get their happy ending. Gah, I love a royal romance!
This woman is my f**king queen and I will never ever lose sight of that.
Therefore, my rating for The Wild Heir is 4.5 STARS because it was the perfect royal romance, with lots of awesome moments and a couple with lots of chemistry. I do wish the “romance” part of this love story was a little bit longer but, besides that, I loved every second of it! Magnus and Elle are perfect for each other and you don’t want to miss reading their story, trust me! If you are a fan of Karina’s or you love royal romances, be sure to check this one out.
There is no hiding the fact I’m a Karina Halle fan. She publishes a book, I’m reading it. No matter the genre, no matter the blurb, no matter what.
I love a good marriage of convenience love story and more when royals are involved. And The Wild Heir by Karina Halle did not disappoint. It doesn’t matter if it is a love at first sight or a slow burn romance, she’s always great at creating blinding chemistry between her characters and she more than nailed it with this new story.
I loved Ella and her passion for the environment, which it’s a topic I’m really interested in. But it was Crown Prince Magnus of Norway the one who stole my heart. He was one of those characters that just surprise you. He was not what I thought he was—his vulnerability owned me, his passion and heart left me speechless.
Karina Halle knows how to write sex scenes, but when she mixed them with a playful banter and dirty talk, she delivers PERFECTION.
As usual, I’m not going to spoil all the fun for you, so if you want to know more about Magnus and Ella and her marriage arrangement, you will have to read this book. I’m guaranteeing you a royally good time!
A slow-burning bliss, that’s what The Wild Heir is. A story that fulfills all a romance lover could hope for—friendly bickering, sizzling hot chemistry, lovable major and second characters, angsty feelings, and heart—a lot of heart.
This was a really cute read. I haven’t read the other royal type story that this author has, but after reading this one, I plan to go back and read it. I loved the dynamic that Ella and Magnus had. They didn’t start off right but they worked through their issues and made their own HEA. It’s one of those plots where it has more happy go lucky feels as opposed to the high angst. I really needed that kind of story and it really hit the spot. 4 stars #2OCCJD
Fell hard and fast for these characters and didn’t want them to end.
I learned a bit about Norway that I didn’t know, even though I’ve been there.
One thing, though, is that I’ve had a kidney transplant and it takes a LONG time to recover and to get one, you have to be fairly strong or you won’t survive. They are brutal. But, the laws regulating transplants in Norway may be different. And, you can’t be over a certain age or it just won’t happen, no matter who you are.
Anyway, I loved this story.
FYI—. It isn’t another thing coming but another think coming. So many authors miss this.

“One day he’ll rule this country. Right now I want to rule him. See what it’s like to bring Magnus the Mad to his knees.”
The Wild Heir is now one of my favorites by Karina Halle. I am not that big into romances about Royal figures, however Karina did such an incredible job with this book. Everything just fit together perfectly, from the super interesting characters to the way the main characters Ella and Magnus met and how their relationship developed. Magnus was a very intense character with a very colorful personality. He could be a bit too much at times, however Ella knew exactly how to handle him. When she first met him without knowing why she was even invited, she wasn’t really impressed by him. She did her best to let him know that.
“She’s become my focus in this crazy world. And I don’t mind that one bit.”
This was such a great story and I was hooked, and I didn’t want to say goodbye to these amazing characters. Both were very unique and in normal circumstances these two wouldn’t have come together. Magnus is the life of the party and a womanizer. Ella is more serious, however she has a very fierce side to her that always made an appearance when she was with Magnus. She knew exactly how to keep him on his toes. I loved the pace their relationship developed, because it felt very natural. It also gave me time to connect to both them as both individuals but also as a couple. It was mostly a light contemporary romance, but Karina added a couple of emotional scenes as well. There was some drama at the end, that in my opinion could’ve been left out. But in a way it made them realize how much they loved each other, so in the end I was okay with it. Read this book guys, you won’t regret it! I also want King Aksel from Denmark to get his own story because I AM INTRIGUED by him.
“Ella is complicated and passionate and fierce. Just like you. You have a fierce Viking heard, handed down from your ancestors. So love fiercely, Magnus. Love bravely. Love her with everything you’ve got.”
The Wild Heir by Karina Halle
This is another fantastic read from Halle and a highly enjoyable one. This book suited Magnus to a tee – it was a lot of fun and very flirty however, as with all things, there was most definitely a serious side to it all.
Magnus is the unwilling heir to the Nordic throne and due to some… let’s say unwise choices, he needs to find a willing wife to save the face of the whole family. He essentially chooses one from a stack of options and hopes it’ll work out for him. The person he chooses is the neglected and oft forgotten Princess Isabella of Liechtenstein who is currently studying in Edinburg. While Ella doesn’t immediately agree to wed the ill-reputed Prince, she does concede to spending two weeks getting to know each other.
I really loved this story. In fact, I was so disappointed when I got to the end, not because the story was incomplete but because I could have happily continued on with Magnus and Ella’s happy ever after. Their story brought me so much joy and I read it with a constant smile on my face despite the serious moments. Magnus needed someone who would keep him in line and dig beneath the adrenaline-seeking, playboy title and he found that in Ella. Ella on the other hand really needed to be seen and loved and valued and Magnus gave her that in spades.
I really love the way Halle delivered this story in all aspects and that she tied everything off in a way that doesn’t leave me wondering. The glimpses we’re getting of King Aksel of Denmark are basically killing me slowly and I can’t tell you how much I’m dying for his story!

No one should be surprised to learn I had total royal fever leading up to the Royal Wedding — and it only got worse after the wedding. I’ve been bingeing royal romances for the last week or so and I can’t ever pass up a new Karina Halle contemporary romance. The Wild Heir is the latest in a long list of books of Karina’s I adored.
I’m a total sucker for the marriage of convenience trope and I don’t think it’s ever done as well as it is when combined with a royal romance. I mean, where else does it make as much sense? But regardless, I was super excited about this book and I was maybe even more excited to get an early copy. Magnus definitely caught my eye in The Swedish Prince, so I was thrilled to get his story.
I adored Ella from the very start. She seemed like an odd match for Magnus, but as well all know, opposites attract. Their chemistry and banter was fantastic and there was a great little slow burn as things built between them. Things weren’t easy for them, but their story made sense. It had just enough bumps to make it realistic, but not enough to make it overly dramatic or angsty for the most part. If I’m being totally honest, I was a little put off by the big conflict piece near the end of the book. I won’t spoil anything for you, but one character’s actions didn’t sit well with me. It didn’t feel authentic or needed, for that matter. I’m not a fan of drama for the sake of drama and that’s kinda what this felt like to me. That said, it was over relatively quickly, but it definitely dinged my rating. That might be a bit harsh, but it is what it is.
Now all that said, otherwise this book was delightful. I enjoyed Magnus’s journey and the path of his and Ella’s relationship. It was wonderful to watch him become the man he needed to be. I love it when a “wild” man is tamed by a woman — or at least when his redirects his passion to her — so with that and the chemistry and swoons, this book checked all my boxes. Once again, Karina writes fantastic romance in gorgeous settings and The Wild Heir was no exception.
FAVORITE QUOTES
“You have to be bold, my friend. Be bold and brilliant in all things.”
“The thing is, Princess, you are sweet. You’re spicy too. You’re a lot of different flavors I haven’t even had the chance to lick yet.”
“I think you need to give me the royal treatment. Fuck me, my Prince.”
This woman is my fucking queen and I will never ever lose sight of that.
Magnus, Magnus, Magnus. I never thought he would ever be tamed but surprisingly he was. As always he got in trouble and didn’t worry about the consequences until it actually affected his family and he needed to step up. His parents gave him an ultimatum and told him he needed to get married which he was totally against. Ella was chosen to be his wife and it was obvious from the minute they met that she despised him.
Ella was not your typical princess. She lost her mom at a very young age and her father and brothers had no time for her. She was very lonely and it was so sad. The only person she had was Jane who was her guardian. When Ella was chosen to marry Magnus she almost had a heart attack because she thought he was reckless and wild. But she gave him the benefit of the doubt and they tried to learn more about each other in which eventually they started falling in love with each other. They got married and things were working out for them. Then there was a hiccup that o seriously thought was going to end things between them but happily it was resolved. But then there was another drama and Ella stepped up and was there for Magnus when he needed her.
The epilogue was typical Magnus and what Ella did was epic. I was glad to get glimpses of Viktor and Maggie.
A fake engagement? Royals? Crown Prince Magnus is reckless. He doesn’t realize all the havoc he’s creating casts him in a bad light. Princess Ella is chosen for him to clean up his image. It’s where there story begins.
Magnus is an adrenaline junkie, reckless and a bit immature. He knows women want him. He takes advantage of that.
Ella is quiet, smart and feisty. She just wants to be a voice of change. She’s a spitfire who knows what she wants. Ella isn’t afraid to share her opinions especially when it come to Magnus.
These two have a great relationship. I really loved their no holds barred questions and discussions. They were honest and relatable. I really loved them.
Karina Halle is onto something with these incredibly layered, complex and lovable Royals. They are smart, sexy and witty. This certainly can be read as standalone. Excited to see what is on the horizon
With the recent English Royal wedding on every true romantic’s mind I loved this romance featuring a future king that everyone will fall in love with. I crazy swooned over Crown Prince Magnus of Norway, the main character in The Wild Heir, a flawed manwhore who stubbornly refuses to act regal. This story moves along seamlessly, in dual POV, due to Ms. Halle’s wondrous writing. She’s a master at her craft and I found myself highlighting entire paragraphs, to go back and savor later. I was so thankful for the touch of humor, thrown in at the perfect moment, to lighten the apprehension caused by both Magnus and Princess Isabella’s situations; they were brought together under extenuating circumstances and I was unsure of the ending, right up to the last moment.
“I used to be so fearless. Then I met Ella. Then I realized how much I really stand to lose.”
At twenty-eight Magnus is still sowing some wild oats; he’s known as ‘Magnus the Mad’ due to his love of extreme sports and careless attitude. He’s forced to acknowledge his actions have caused damage to the monarchy after a recent sex scandal and with his father’s recent illness Magnus faces a very serious dilemma. He’s given two choices by his mother, the Queen: either abdicate the throne or marry a royal with the right bloodline, one of the princesses from the list she’s come up with. Magnus knows what he has to do and makes his choice.
“He wants me to be king. I won’t abdicate. Not now. I won’t let him down.”
Princess Isabella has lived in boarding schools in England since she was thirteen, having lost her mother at the tender age of three. Her father, the King of Liechtenstein, and four brothers have always been distant towards her, more strangers than family. She’s studying at the University of Edinburg and counts her faithful sixty year-old lady-in-waiting, Jane, as her only friend. It’s a sad fact for a twenty-two year old, she’s always had trouble making friends and some people confuse her shyness as aloofness. When her father’s personal butler calls and informs Ella she’s to attend a dinner in Norway, she immediately books a flight. She’ll do anything to please him and get his approval.
Don’t you get the feeling that she doesn’t know why she’s here?”
Ella soon discovers the reason she was invited to meet the Norwegian Royals. She dislikes Magnus, something she doesn’t hide from him, and is aware of his scandalous reputation. She thinks the idea is preposterous and refuses to help him out.
“Well, since I know the throne is more important to you than love, I’ll let you know that when I plan to marry, I plan to do it for love.”
“The throne isn’t more important than love is. I’m doing this because I love my family, my father.”
Unfortunately for Ella, her father seems to think she’s agreed to the arrangement, something he’s very pleased about, and causes her to rethink her decision. She decides to have a two week trial period, to get to know each other, and make her final decision afterwards.
Oh lordy, they make the best out of those two weeks, getting to know each other. Ella discovers Magnus isn’t exactly who, or what, she thinks he is. Once Ella opens up and answering his questions, really listening and understanding him, Magnus is stunned by his feelings towards her.
“This woman is my fucking queen and I will never lose sight of that.
I’ll do anything to be her King.”
I really enjoyed it. Lots of laughs.
Magnus….the wild Prince of Norway….is reckless, passionate, impulsive and way to hot for his own good. Ella….Princess of Liechtenstein is the complete opposite. She is shy, sweet, obedient and thinks she’s very average looking.
Once these two characters get thrown together it’s like oil and water until…..it’s not.
Oh my **fans self** these two royals certainly know how to bring up the heat. I absolutely loved this book. Ms. Halle has captured what everyone wants right now (thank you Harry and Meghan!!!) and that is royal romance!!! This book should be at the top of everyone’s list because it was that fantastic.

Mad Magnus is finally here!
Absolutely adored this story. Ella and Magnus are cast into this completely impossible situation that’s doomed from the beginning. Or so they think but you can feel the spark between these two lovely characters on every page. I love me a slow burn romance and this one is paced perfectly.
It also doesn’t hurt that Magnus may very well be my new favorite Halle man 😉
I really loved this one! I know I say that about all of Karina Halle’s books but with the release of this along with the real royal wedding this week, I swooned!
Elle was feisty and smart, Magnus was a prince of a man! Enjoyed appearances by Viktor from The Swedish Prince! Hoping there’s one more royal book with King Aksel.
Another great read by Karina, this is a spinoff from The Swedish Prince and can easily be read as a standalone without having read this previously, but its a good story, so don’t miss it!!
Magnus is the Norwegian Prince, but he is out of control, always up to no good, an adrenaline junkie and and a huge playboy, but this time he’s gotten himself in a bit of trouble with a sex tape and embarrassed the royal family too much, so they decide its best for him to live up to his royal duties, get married and settle down!
Ella is the Princess of Lichtenstein, a hard working student who tries her best to fit in, but invariably finds she doesn’t, her best and only friend is her Lady in Waiting, Jane. She gets called to have dinner at the Norwegian royal palace out of the blue, and doesn’t think to question her Father’s motives as she gets told to go, she just goes. It’s not until she is there that she finds out she is top of Magnus’ list for a royal bride!!
Its a charming story about a marriage of convenience that turns into the real thing!! Its all about the push and pull and is a real slow burn, with nothing sexual happening until over 60% of the way in, but when it does there are fireworks!! But its the story of their romance and how it blossoms that’s the real appeal here and it was such a lovely things to watch!! There’s some smashing humor in there with some fab references to some movie one liners, some sadness, angst and a bit of a villain to boot!! All in all a great read, with some characters that were quite wonderful and had me rooting for their HEA. Highly recommended reading.
The Wild Heir is now my Karina Halle top favorite. It just hit me in all the right spots. Ticked off all my check boxes. Drowned me in a world I don’t ever want to leave. It struck me right in the feels and I’m still high up on Magnus the Mad’s cloud nine. It truly is an extraordinary tale of an arranged marriage of royal proportions.
The humor was spectacular—I couldn’t count the times I giggled and laughed my ass off from the most hilarious and ridiculous things these characters spouted off. The chemistry, the build up of the relationship, and the development of feelings between Magnus and Ella was so electrifying and incredibly intoxicating, it made my skin tingle and my heart palpitate. And the slow burn… it’s just exquisite and so delicious, it will absolutely leave you anticipating and wanting more.
Hell, I’m freaking suffering from Magnus Fever—that should be a thing. He’s like this Norse god from Swoon City you’ll just want to keep for yourself and never let go. He’s captured my attention even when I read The Swedish Prince, but I didn’t expect him to captivate, steal and own every inch of my heart after reading this. And getting to know more about him here, on a deeper, more intimate and vulnerable level—it slayed me.
You need to read this book and meet Magnus and Ella. Seriously, it’s just pure and absolute PERFECTION. You’ll love it! You’ll love them.
4.5 Stars
I loved how happy go lucky Marcus was in the Swedish Prince, so I was really looking forward to what kind of girl could make the elusive playboy curb his bed-hopping ways and settle down.
In this book he still is the same guy, but mix that with his playboy ways and a love interest makes for quite an angsty read surprisingly.
Initially the chemistry wasnt exactly explosive between Magnus and Ella, but there was definitely something simmering. But baring in mind their relationship wasn’t the conventional variety, having been thrust upon each other due to Magnus’s previous endeavours. Eventually though, the couple finally clicked for me and things got pretty damn hot
This book Didn’t quite flow as well as the Swedish Prince nor was it as fast paced. But both Magnus and Ella were extremely likeable characters and I have to say I was hooked with the anticipation of how exactly they would both make it work.
Also this is a great read for anyone who loves a royal romance and whilst it is being marketed as a stand alone, I would strongly recommend reading The Swedish Prince first. And what better book to read than one who’s release falls nicely with the up and coming Royal Wedding here in the UK.
I was anxious to get to know Prince Magnus better after meeting him in The Swedish Prince. All we knew about him initially was that he was quite the playboy party animal who loved extreme sports and a good adrenaline rush.
Magnus got himself into a heap of trouble with a girl whose sanity was questionable at best, which resulted in a huge public embarrassment for his family. Needing to save face for their monarchy and the country, his parents come up with a plan to fix his public image.
Princess Isabella, or Ella as she’s more commonly known, gets drawn into the scheme to fix this debacle that Magnus has caused. She was pretty quiet and shy, but could also be quite fiery and headstrong when talking about issues that she was passionate about. I loved the initial dynamic between Ella and Magnus. Her detesting the kind of man he is, manwhore who only cares about himself, and him thinking her to be a prude who doesn’t know how to have any fun.
I loved the slow burn that Karina built into this story. Ella is presented this over the top, can’t be real offer from Magnus. I honestly don’t know how I would have handled the situation, being a 22 year old student with no friends except her lady in waiting, Jane. And already feeling as if her father threw her away by sending her off to boarding school at a very young age and not communicating with her, she’s basically all alone in the world and having to make life changing decisions.
Magnus is not without his own issues too. Always feeling like he can’t concentrate on any one thing at a time, the only time he feels at peace in his head is when he’s jumping off mountains, or skiing huge slopes, or having sex. But he’s beginning to realize that Ella gives him that same type of peace, the more time he spends with her. And Ella is slowly realizing that her feelings for Magnus are something she never expected would ever happen. But even though she’s developed feelings for him, how can she give them any kind of merit at all with the unconventional way they were brought together?
Karina does a great job of moving Magnus and Ella’s relationship along, while also showing us the struggles and fears that Magnus has, and the issues that Ella has long dealt with in not feeling like her father loves her or wants her around. And let’s not forget the psycho hose-teaser barnacle that won’t leave Magnus alone, causing major problems for him and Ella.
I loved that Karina had Ella be a huge supporter of environmental issues, to the point of starting her own nonprofit organization. She was passionate about saving the planet in any way she can, AND she’s beautiful and smart and giving and caring. Magnus couldn’t have found a better partner to love but also keep him in line. Yes, as any young couple does, they have their challenges to overcome, and especially in their situation, both being royalty, but I loved they way they come together and work through their issues together.
What an incredible book! I loved Magnus and Ella, and the supporting characters are all amazing too!! We learn a little more about King Aksel of Denmark who we first met briefly in The Swedish Prince, and now that we’ve got a little bit more of his background, I’m dying for Karina to write his story!
