This story was good I got a good sense of the apocalyptic world Harlow is living in and her struggle to fight for good all the while the four horsemen of the apocalypse are tempting her to join with them.
An interesting and enjoyable adventure with strong characters, tense moments and a bit of steam.
The narrator does a good job and I found her voice easy to listen to.
Revelation… 4.5 ANGEL KISSES
This was me surviving, this was me trying…one day at a time. four darkened blurs at the edge of the horizon. The Horsemen… Come. You belong with us. That voice. What the Hell do you want from me? Protect you, love you. Use you, and be used by you. I was lost in their touch, consumed by their need. Their touch is like…heaven. Heat and desire collided in the dark. A storm was coming. A…reckoning. A Calling she cannot shake. WHOA! HOLY NIRVANA! This is NOT your momma’s reverse harem story!! While I am not typically a Post-Apocalyptic/dystopian fan, I AM a huge fan of Kim Faulks, which is why I decided to give Pestilence a try. WOW!! I am so thrilled I did! I am completely blown away by it! While it is dark, a bit depressing in places, sad in others, it is also about & full of hope, trust, friendship & even love, and of course so much more than I can share with you here! I love how the story is told, the way it moves forward, while at the same time, we are filled in on the events that bring us to the opening of the book, where we first meet Harlow. The way that Kim shares the information, provides both the characters & the world’s history, the events leading up to where we join the story & meet Harlow, is all done so seamlessly and without information overload! With the great world building, vivid descriptions and exceptionally well-written, darkly beautiful storytelling, I was pulled into the story, visually, emotionally following & joining Harlow on the beginning of her Calling mission. I am very intrigued by & with the Four Horsemen aspect! That is a super cool twist! I love the intricacy of the storytelling! It’s like there are at least 2, 3 even 4 sides or layers for everything that is going on at any one time, but instead of taking away from or confusing the story, it adds so much texture, options, POWER to it all, pulling me in even deeper until I am living, feeling, thinking, dreaming, experiencing EVERYTHING with & as Harlow! The depth & complexity given to the characters, the World, the storylines and to the story (& presumably the series) as a whole, enhances and enriches the entire reading experience! I have to say that I hate the mysteries & unanswered questions almost as much as I love them!! The reason I love them is because I know that when the answers are all given, when the mysteries are all solved, the wait and the journey will have been so incredibly worth it!! And yes, it WILL happen, the “reverse harem” parts WILL happen, but you are going to be taken on the ride of your life, the journey to Hell and back first.. because I can now see that it will take 4 books, 4 journeys to Hell and back, 4 epic battles of hope vs despair, love vs hate, life & death, for it to all come together! Can you handle it? Are you strong enough? HELLYA! Strap yourselves in for The Calling of all Callings!! One thing is certain – expect the unexpected!!
