Firstly just let me say; this book is worth so much more than the 5 stars allowed, as I was still laughing after I had finished reading! Mindy, Arlie, and Chris, what fantastic characters they all are! This is a well written and flawless story, which is entertaining, hilarious, and with twists which all had me totally captivated throughout. I cannot wait to read more of this authors’ work, and I highly recommend her work for all comedy lovers!
This was my first Belle Brooks novel but certainly won’t be my last! I adored this book! It was funny, sweet, quirky, and sexy—a great combo!
Mindy was a stitch along with her bestie Chris. I think the author did a great job building to the main premise of the novel. We definitely got to know Mindy before her venture to Heart Key.
Arlie was perfect. He “got” her and accepted her. The romance between them was a slow burn that I savored. I liked that they got to know one another before jumping into bed. Their relationship felt like a natural progression—nothing forced or faked.
I hope they have another book because there are some questions that weren’t answered that I want to know the answer to! Plus, I just want more from this cast of characters. I recommend this book to anyone who is looking for a fun, sweet read!
5 Stars!
This is such a funny book, I loved every minute of it. I was getting weird looks from my husband while reading this, cause I was laughing so hard.
Melinda and Arlie are destined to be together, They just don’t know it yet. But a little help from fate and a reality TV show, they will soon see that they should be together.
I don’t think there is a genre that Belle Brooks can’t write. I can’t wait to see what she comes up with next.
Romance Laughter OMG moments –
That Guy is a complete package!
I can not remember how long it has been since a romance left me in such physical pain – BEST AB WORK OUT EVER!
This is one of those reads that you can not really break down – yeah, I can rewrite the blurb but honestly even that does not do “That Guy” justice.
If you are looking for a romance that reflects the quirks and ludicrous behaviors of the dating life – look no further –
That Guy offers a bevy of wonderful characters that seamlessly worm their way into your heart taking root permanently
The plot is one twist and “OMG” no way moment after another
This is definitely a must read!
What a Hilarious yet Delightful Story. I love when I find a book that is funny, crazy good and simply entertaining, and that is exactly what “That Guy” was for me. It’s a fast paced, funny romance rolled up into a great storyline. The book is very well written and will keep you smiling from chapter to chapter. As for the characters, the author has done an outstanding job there as well. As a reader we feel their plights in life and share their emotions right along with them. One thing I will say, whomever Ms. Brooks based Melinda’s Bestie Chris on, is one guy I would love to meet. The boy is a hoot and a half and I think every woman in the world needs a guy like Chris in her corner (Flying Dildo’s and all).
All Melinda wants is a chance to meet a nice guy and be loved. She’s about to turn thirty, she a clutz and trust me if it can go wrong, it’s going to go wrong to Melinda. After a horrible blind date, and a few very embarrassing encounters with a sexy stranger named Arlie, Melinda has all but given up on finding a boyfriend let alone true love. But her Bestie, Chris, has her sign up for a reality show: 3 weeks on a deserted island with the supposed match of her dreams. Needless to say, Melinda wins and is whisked off to paradise, only to find the guy they’ve matched her with is none other than the sexy Arlie. Let the fun begin.
If you like fast pace RomComs, “That Guy” is definitely a must read. I can’t recommend it enough. Just be prepared for people to look at you funny while reading this one, because you’ll be smiling, laughing out loud and crying OMG every step of the way. 2 Thumbs up for a great read.
Belle Brooks -That Guy
Have you ever been THAT lucky to find THAT book, where you really want to devour it in one sitting but are so conflicted because you SO want it to last to the end of time, so you can savour every delicious moment. ‘THAT GUY’ was IT for me!
I tried.. I REALLY did, I wanted to prolong this read of deliciousness for ever but couldn’t, I took it with me everywhere!!!! I have stayed awake reading about Belinda, Chris and Arlie until the small hours of the morning, with my fist firmly planted into my mouth to stifle my guffaws of laughter as the rest of the family slept. There were facets to each of the characters that were so relatable to my own life, it was heartwarming, endearing and TOTALLY hilarious.
Ms Brooks, YOU are a genius! I will NEVER tire from this book. I will, have and can re-read it over and over and still laugh each and every time. This is my favourite read of 2018 thus far and I am also planning to gift copies to my dearest friends, who I just know will love this as much as I do.
‘THAT GUY’ gets a phenomenal 5* from me. I really cannot recommend this highly enough. I do know that if you are a fan of RomComs or Ms. Brooks .. this book needs to be read for the full effect.
“That Guy” was so much fun to read. I don’t know about you but when I think something is ridiculous and embarrassing I smack my forehead and cringe at the thought of that happening to me. This book is full of those moments and I loved every minute of it. Such a fast read, you’ll be turning your final page before you know it. The story takes a twist that some might not expect but I knew what was going to happen but when I found out it was true I was super happy.
I absolutely loved the end but it was expected after you found out the big twist. It didn’t make me any less in love with this book or the characters. Melinda who was just clumsy and awkward becomes a strong woman that can finally become the person her best friend Chris always pushed her to be. Her relationship with her best friend Chris, is so funny in itself. Reminds me of a lot of my friendships. An open, honest and true friendship full of comedy.
What more can I say about this book?! How about, a great love story. It’s more than just fate that bring them together and every step of the story beginning to end creates this ending. I love it!
I love Belle’s books and I am even more in love with this book. I am so happy to see her write a Rom Com. Belle is one talented lady.
Try not to laugh while reading. Don’t drink or eat while reading That Guy. You’ve been warned.
Fate has a plan for Melinda and Arlie. Get ready for some funny, sexy and surprises. We all need a best friend like Chris. Get ready to swoon over Arlie.
You do NOT want to miss out on That Guy!!!
I have to say that right from the start until the end this book was FUN !!!!!
Arlie is “That Guy” you know? The perfect one? The one that fits allllll the boxes! Sexy, Fit, Hot, Gorgeously Handsome and a man any woman would swoon and fall for !
Mindy is almost 30, single, really a bit of an airhead, and a qualified Doctor, even though she isn’t practising, and is currently working as receptionist for an escort agency. She has so many issues i found her difficult to like at the beginning. But she really did grow on me. Then there is her best friend Chris, her flamboyant gay best friend with no filter. So what happens when you’re a loser in love, your best friend is desperately trying to match you up with other losers and you have just met the most gorgeous man in the world, who you suddenly find yourself with, on a luxurious island for a reality tv show !!! OMG the fun, be prepared for laughter and more laughter, and i mean laughing out loud laughter!! The antics just don’t stop and, well what can i say about flying huge vibrators, Priscilla and KFC !! YOU will have to find out !! I really loved the little or should i say huge twist !!! One of the most fun books with a super story and packed with romance I’ve read in quite a while !!
That Guy, is a romcom by the multi talented Belle Brooks.
What do you do when you can’t seem to find love anywhere? Yes, you listen to your best friend, and sign up on a new dating service! What can possible go wrong?
I thought That Guy was enjoyable and a funny read. Loveable characters with a great chemistry.
Well, what can I say except. OMG, I can’t help myself. That was so freaking hilarious and my face hurts from laughing so much.
Arlie and Mindy was just two people minding their own business when they first met, but Arlie was attracted to the kluzy woman and wanted to get to know her better. The lengths he went to in order to accomplish this were just so damn funny. There’s more to this hot gym owner than meets the eye, and believe me, what meets the eye is so freaking hot.
Mindy works as a receptionist at an escort agency and hates her job, it’s not what she’d love to be doing, but that’s another story. She sees an ad to take part in a new ‘love show’ and soon finds herself on a tropical island… with Arlie.
He’s not who she expected to find there.
Arlie was quite a mystery right up until the last few chapters, even though we got to heard about some of his past. He was super sexy and very patient with Mindy and all her hangups about her own past and her looks. She was a normal everyday girl and Arlie was hot as sin, so naturally she thought he was out of her league. Arlie didn’t think so and the way he went about winning Mindy’s heart was pretty awesome.
Their chemistry was undeniable, even from their first meeting, but this was a slow burner and it took a fair while for them to get their kits off. But that didn’t stop me from loving this one.
I’ve read it three times, and it’s still HILARIOUS!!!!! Belle Brooks mastered the ugly cry with Always You. She mastered the dark suspense with the Game Of Life Series. Now, she’s mastered the rom/com with That Guy!!!!! I don’t do spoiler reviews, but I will say “jellyfish” … Trust me, you’ll understand!!!!! Get ready to laugh your @$$ off with this book!!!!
Belle Brooks just knocked it out of the park with this cheeky story!! Melinda lacks confidence when it comes to men other than her gay bestie. Arlie and Melinda meet each other by chance but their story was destined. So many laugh out loud and chuckle worthy moments that will leave a smile on your face and a happy heart. It may be an unconventional love story but love can bloom anywhere and at anytime. It was so heartwarming to read how they connected and made each other better. Loved it!!!!!
3.5 stars
“He’s so perfect, like the ultimate macaroon, and I’m so … I’m a cream bun. A gooey white mess.”
Writing romcom suits Belle very well. This book is hilarious! I’m not easy to laugh out loud while reading but this book made me do it more than once. So the humor in this story takes up a great portion. Maybe a little too much.
This is not my first book by Belle and so I know she’s got a big talent to write characters you can easily connect with. To make you feel what they feel. To feel the attraction and chemistry between the characters. I really missed that in That Guy. So, IMO this got all a little lost in favor of humor.
“…because being around Arlie is like walking through a freshly mowed park on a warm summer afternoon after it’s rained: refreshing, comforting, fresh.”
Don’t get me wrong here. I really enjoyed reading Mindy’s and Arlie’s story and I laughed and smiled a lot. I also could totally relate to Mindy, her self-perception, her insecurities, her want to be loved and being in love.
But I had trouble to connect with Arlie. He was as mystic to me at the end as he was right from the beginning. We didn’t learn really much about him and even though I could sense what Mindy saw in him and why she fell in love with him, I couldn’t see or feel it myself.
Also the end felt rushed to me. There were so many questions I had and I couldn’t really understand why Mindy clearly didn’t or didn’t voice them. IMO she accepted all to easily.
“Every nerve ending my body possesses is overcome with electrical pulses, because kissing Arlie Blight is more magical than a rainbow-coloured dildo with eight speeds of delight. It’s so much better.”
That Guy is a hilarious light summer read: If you need something to lift your mind of your everyday life this is the perfect book to do so!
P.s.: And Belle is right – everybody needs a Chris in his life! I certainly wish I had a Chris <3
5 + Stars
I cannot love this author any more right now. Not only has she written another awesome story but it’s based in my hometown, Melbourne, so I truly was engrossed from start to finish. Seriously her amazing talent in changing her stories is remarkable.
This rom-com will leave you in stitches and you will thank her for giving your abs a work out after all the laughter this tale produces. You will experience flying vibrators and sugary sweet treats that leave you grinning from ear to ear.
The characters blended so well and I so could relate to the heroine with her quirkiness and clumsiness. However, her best friend is the icing on the cake; he infects you with such happiness you would want him as your own bestie. He definitely was the glue that held Mindy together. Lastly, there is the fine, scrumptious specimen of a man Arlie. He is mysterious and sexy as sin but his secrets are not ready to be shared.
If you love to laugh and adore wickedly hilarious stories that I truly recommend this story to everyone.
I have to say I read this when I was really sick and could hardly breathe! Thank goodness I had this book to cheer me up because it is a true romantic comedy that does make you laugh..well okay..for me it was wheeze, cough and splutter..but the same thing!
At first you think this woman’s life can’t get any worse then she goes on a blind date from hell! Even though Melinda is not batting a high average or even an average of any sort in the dating department she is determined to find her ‘Forever man’ and valiantly moves forward with the help of her best friend, Chris.
Chris is such a fun character and one that really does radiate sunshine and sparkles. Honestly, he is a huge part of the humorous element and I could read about him all day long. Mindy, is very self demeaning. She has a past that has shaped her like this but it’s hard to read her putting herself down even in a joking manner. She is an extremely likeable character so you can’t help but feel protective of her, even from the barbs she shoots at herself.
One of the funniest parts was the way she describes how her beaver, called..Miss Priscilla ..doesn’t like to roam free and hang loose! Too funny, such a fabulous way with words. Then there is this…
“Is Arlie a food artist who makes your tongue orgasm and your stomach want to light up an orgasmic cigarette after digestion?” A fun, light touch that aids the storytelling.
This light romance is very sweet and loads of fun, easy to read and leaves you feeling fantastic.
What an amazing book. This is the first rom-com I have ever read and I loved every word. the author has managed to keep me laughing Non-Stop from start to finish. I had to put the book down a couple times because my side was hurting from laughing so much. If you are looking for something laugh out loud funny that will keep you turning the pages until the end then this is the book for you.
Romcom at it finest…
…loved this book, it had me giggling, laughing out loud, and swooning…
Chris love this man!
He is hysterical, genuine, loyal and the best friend everyone needs!
Melinda seems to have a gift to find herself into to most awkward situations..
…love the banter, surprises, and over all make you smile book..
OMG this was one funny book. Mindy and Arlie were such a cute couple to get to know. I loved that she was this HOT MESS and how he saw past that. I loved everything he planned for them to get to know each other. It was a fun way seeing how Mindy began to grow and forgive herself for what she did and finally started to enjoy life again. I thoroughly enjoyed this from beginning to end
