I had to do a double take with this book— so freaking much is happening and Claire C Riley has cranked up the gore to a whole new level!
This book felt is a two part story- first with Nina and Michael setting off to find Mikey- only to encounter the Shooter and his MC gang- The Hell’s Highwaymen. With some serious sparks brewing and Nina for the first time feeling like she wants to settle my heart dies a little at the thought of her and Mikey not being reunited. Okay Shooter is all kinds of smoking hot and I love his alpha caveman ‘I’ll-make-you-my-old-lady’ vibe… but dude
Then, there’s O’Donnell- the mere fact that this bish survived the fall into a mob of zeds, should leave me feeling some kind of awe and grateful that she’s determined to find and rescue Mikey. I just cannot allow myself to feel anything but animosity towards her. So what?! I’m petty and bitter, and Nina’s snark has rubbed off on me. She’s convinced that she and Mikey are soulmates.
Mikey letting go of Nina is too much for my heart to bear… I want to go back in time and burn all the memories of them together— seriously Ms Riley I’m not okay with this.
The author’s imagination knows no bounds, I’ve not read her MC series but I’m so keen to meet them pre-zombie-apocalypse.
So with my heart in my hands (safely away from the forgotten, deaders/zeds and cannibals) I’m so ready for book 6- I just want everything in the zombie filled world to be okay again; with Nina and Mikey reunited and fighting with each other and against the all the things that keep pulling them apart- I’m shipping #NiKey
4/5 Gory Stars.
Here we go again on the crazy odium ride. We follow Nina and Michael as they head out trying to find Mikey, Adam and Joan. When they are run off the rode by an MC gang they are taken back to the club house and find themselves the safe haven they didn’t know they needed, for now anyway.
I am a fan of Claire’s MC romances so to see some characters I know and love worked into this series was amazing! Nina slowly comes to the realisation that after everything she has been through maybe leaving Mikey to believe she is dead is or the best. She seeks comfort in the club President Shooter and there is plenty of sexual tension building up *more side eye tot Author*
This book to me felt less intense in the pacing; but I know it’s setting up a whole new world within this post apocalyptic narrative and as Mikey’s situation plays out I know I was right. Things begin to get complicated for Mikey and unbeknown to them both Nina and he are so close yet so far away and boy is that frustratingly torturous but it makes for great suspense in the novel. Seeing how their paths may or may not cross again after being apart for 2 novels now is keeping me at the edge of my seat. I need book 6 right now.
This series just keeps getting better and better with every book. The continuation of Nina and Mikey’s story brings about some really good new characters, some bikers… swoony swoon over Shooter, and tells us more about characters we both love and hate from the previous books. There is not one moment in this book/series that isn’t truly superb and I for one can not wait for the next instalment.
