She’s Penna Carstairs. The Renegade they call Rebel. FMX-treme Magazine’s sexiest female athlete of the year. There’s no rule in extreme sports she hasn’t broken, No gender barrier she hasn’t demolished. She’s the woman I met in a bar in Vegas. The woman I illegally BASE jumped for. The woman I spent one insane, incredible night with. But now I’m screwed. Or rather…not screwed. Because the … screwed.
Or rather…not screwed.
Because the woman I can’t get out of my head is the one woman I can never touch again.
I’m Dr. Cruz Delgado–the youngest professor on this campus,
And Penelope Carstairs just walked into my class.

I didn’t think there was any way that I would love a book more than Nova (book two of the Renegades series) but then I started Rebel and realized that this book was going to be EVERYTHING!! This book can definitely be read as a standalone but this series is so amazing that I think everyone should read all of the books of this series.
From the very first page, I knew this book was going to be a high-adreline, keep me on my toes, never put it down story. The chemistry between Penna and Cruz was intense and captivating. I was rooting for them from the second they met. But even more than I was rooting for them as a couple, I was rooting for them as individuals. For Penna to be able to find herself again after her sister’s actions and for Cruz to be able to fulfill all of his dreams for his family. There is no two characters who are more perfect for each other than Penna and Cruz: they’re supportive but independent, take risks, and have heat that blows up the page.
I devoured this book in one sitting. I couldn’t put it down but I never wanted it to end. I’m sad to see the end of the Renegades series but I can’t think of an ending more perfect than Rebel.
Rebel by Rebecca Yarros a five-star read that rears back. This is the sublime third Renegades story, and it will blow you away, from the jump this is a powerful story it starts with a bang and just keeps going, there is no let up all the way through, and it keeps a striking pace that will pull you in. Penelope is a complex woman, and she needs a complex man to stand behind her as she trailblazes her way through life. A man who will jump with her and not in front of her, stand with her as she faces her troubles and simply be there accepting her help when they need it as well. This is a complex story and will envelope you into the story, Rebecca Yarros is a very good author and one I have really enjoyed reading and hope to continue reading more.
Living life on the edge is nothing new for the members of the Renegades. For Penna – the risk has finally made her question her place within the games. An injury that plagued her mind, while her sister’s betrayal crushed her heart. Now Penna is faced with the struggling of knowing who she is, knowing where she stands in her sport, and where she wants to proceed with extreme sports. A Renegade at heart. An athlete that knows how ‘the next big thing’ can threaten to crush your career.
With a determination unlike any other, Penna decides to see if she still ‘has it’. A base jumping stunt that no one knows about….including the other Renegades. Penna’s plan to take on a risk all on her own takes a new turn when she runs into Cruz. With Vegas as the setting to this risky stunt, Penna decides to throw caution to the wind and ask Cruz to base jump with her.
The two set out on their adventure, and decide they can’t ignore the attraction that clearly is buzzing around them. One night…that’s all they planned. A night to give in to the rush that so clearly envelops them. What neither counted on was a swift interruption by the police. Tearing the couple apart before they acted on their attraction.
Now they are pushed back into the lives that they planned. Never knowing the true identity of the person that jumped that night in Vegas with no regards to the consequences. A thrilling event that ended without any means of future contact. Penna heads back to the ship to continue with the studies and stunts that await the Renegades. Nothing could have prepared Penna for the new teacher she would encounter aboard the ship. None other than Cruz…the man that threw caution to the wind and base jumped with Rebel. Can they ignore the pull that was so evident that night in Vegas?
Can this book be any more of a scorcher?? Rebel is the last book in the Renegades, and it packed one heck of a punch!! From the previous books, Penna has come off as one tough daredevil. In this story, Penna shows readers a deeper side of her personality…the doubts, fears, and feelings that plague her days. What I didn’t expect to find was the amazing love interest that would take Penna on a ride like no other.
It’s the world of extreme sports with all of the danger wrapped up in the stunts. What makes Penna’s journey different? It’s not every day that you find a female worthy of the status that this Renegade holds. Cruz will rock the very foundation that Penna believes in. Making this journey one filled with scorching hot intensity that will rock your world!! Enjoy the ride……live the sport….devour the romance!!
I love this series! I unfortunately haven’t had the chance to read Nova yet but the other two I have read were amazing.
Penna is the only original girl Renegade and after a serious injury, she’s not herself and isn’t sure if this lifestyle is for her anymore. When she sneaks off to Vegas to try and get her groove back, she meets the very sexy Cruz.
Cruz ends up base jumping with Penna when her original partner falls through, even though they’re strangers, they both felt a connection and trust in the other person to be safe on this crazy stunt.
They never even exchanged names and never thought they’d see each other again but fate had other plans for these two. When Cruz becomes Dr. Delgado, Pennas new teacher, things become even crazier. The chemistry and attraction they have is hot and the fact they can’t act on it, makes it even hotter.
But how long can these two withstand temptation without giving in? Especially when they’re thrown together almost everyday? Gah I just loved these two and can’t recommend this book enough.

The Renegades has been an amazing series. I loved Wilder and Nova, but Rebel blew me out of the water! I literally lost sleep over this series! It’s a MASTERPIECE of literature! The series spans the globe with 4 best friends, having the most amazing twists and turns (figuratively) that had my mouth gaping open on more than one occasion. Other times I was laughing out loud or pumping my fist in the air! I’m amazed at the amount of research that had to have taken place for this to seems so realistic; extreme sports, the travel and destinations, the visuals placed in your mind as you read!
The characters were amazing in all 3 books, but I especially loved how Penna and Cruz met at the get go of Rebel! At times my heart was extremely beating for the thrills that took place in sporting or their life circumstances! What an adventurous storyline!
I have read 2 other series by author Rebecca Yarros, but I don’t know how anything else can top The Renegades!
Rebecca Yarros slam dunks another adrenaline-thrill Rendgades novel. I was hooked in the first ten pages. Wasn’t sure what to expect from the one Renegade girl known for extreme stunts who’s on the recovery after an attack in the last novel (from her sister). What’s amaze-balls about this book is the balance between Penelope’s (Penna) need for the adrenaline craziness of motorbike/base jumping/ or whatever insane stunt she’d doing and her inner falling apart. Done quite well.
Enter Cruz, hottie hot of Cuban hotness, who in the first chapter sees Penelope needs him and does a seriously stupid stunt with her. He soon after becomes off limits as her teacher. I’m not a fan of teacher-student relationships and even though I think the author did a great job with this I still got a bit of the willies over it. What’s nice is establishing the characters as having a solid connection before they realized they were teacher-student. The being found out might be inevitable, but it’s what happens afterward that is worth the read. Seriously, grab this book. Who cares if you missed the others. This one’s a winner.
REBEL is the third (and final) installment in Rebecca Yarros’ contemporary, new adult THE RENEGADES romance series focusing on a tight knit group of X-Games athletes, known as The Renegades, who are currently filming a year long, reality television program aboard an ocean cruise liner, getting an education from UCLA, and touring the world (ala Ryan Gosling and ‘Breaker High’). This is twenty two year old X-Games motorcycle athlete Penelope ‘Penna (Rebel) Carstairs, and twenty seven year old, former US army paratrooper Dr. Cruz Delgado’s story line. REBEL can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous story line is revealed where necessary but I recommend reading the series in order for backstory and cohesion as much of the series premise is revealed in book one.
NOTE: If you have not read the first two installments there may be some spoilers in my review.
SOME BACKGROUND: Months earlier, Penna’s sister Brooke Carstairs, in a rage of jealousy and anger, attempted to destroy the X-games group known as The Renegades. Penna’s leg was crushed, and fellow Renegade member Nick, one of the Renegade ‘Originals’, was paralyzed in the ensuing fall out. Most of the members of the Renegades come from well to do families, and have earned their own reputations and financial success on the X-Games circuit.
Told from dual first person perspectives (Cruz and Penna) REBEL focuses on the forbidden relationship between X-treme athlete Penna Carstairs, and professor Dr. Cruz Delgado. While on hiatus following months of down time recovering from a near fatal attempt on her life, Penna convinced a total stranger to go BASE jumping off the High Roller, the world’s tallest Ferris wheel in Las Vegas, Nevada. Enter former US army Airborne paratrooper Cruz Delgado, Penna’s partner in crime, and the man with whom Penna would fall in love. What ensues is the ‘almost’ one-night stand between our leading couple, and the building but forbidden romance between Penna and her new Latin American History professor Dr. Cruz Delgado.
Penna doesn’t do relationships but meeting Cruz Delgado sent all semblance of propriety out the window. It didn’t help that her sexy BASE jumping partner was several years older but to discover that her almost one-night stand is now the new Latin American history professor on board the luxury cruise liner placed a line in the sand (or water) not meant to be crossed. Cruz Delgado knows that to get involved with a student, even a twenty two year old student, would be the death of his career but Cruz needs this job for reasons beyond anyone’s knowledge, and it is these reasons that Cruz is more reticent about getting involved.
The relationship between Cruz and Penna is one of immediate attraction ; a forbidden romance between student and professor that continues to grow with each look, each encounter, and each secret rendezvous behind closed doors and vacation hideaways. The $ex scenes are intimate, romantic and seductive without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.
There is a large ensemble cast of secondary and supporting characters including all of the original members of The Renegades (Leah, Pax, Rachel, Landon and Nick, Little John and Bobby), as well as an assortment of teachers, television crews, support workers and employees. Like the previous two installments REBEL follows several paths that intersect throughout the story.
Unlike the previous installment –NOVA- REBEL reveals some of the background information and history between the members of Renegade including a few details behind the not so accidental attempt on their lives. Because I did not have the opportunity to read the first installment –WILDER-I am still a little confused as to the how and why of the onboard cruise and UCLA connections to the team’s continuing education but thankfully the author chose to reveal some important background information, about the accident, throughout the story. As a voracious reader it is always appreciated when the author ‘recaps’ the important events leading up to the current timeline and ongoing premise allowing new readers to the series a little more understanding and comprehension.
REBEL is a fast paced, entertaining story about family, friendship, the forbidden and love. The premise is energetic and dramatic; the characters are engaging, impulsive and animated; the romance is intense and passionate. The epilogue fast forwards the series approximately five years where the reader gets a glimpse into the lives and ongoing friendships of the original members of The Renegades.
