Two years of hard work finally paid off. After an emotional but necessary move, Winter Frame was now the proud owner of Bayou Books in New Orleans. She loved her new friends and apartment in the French Quarter and she wouldn’t have it any other way. So what if the natives were a little too involved in folklore and superstitions? It wasn’t real, so she had nothing to really worry about. Right?… Right?
Wrong.
Zahir Slade was irritated. As the reigning king of the supernatural community, it was his job to make sure rules were enforced, were-species were safe, and the human world stayed blissfully unaware of their kind. Unfortunately, his brother’s interaction with a human bookstore owner was going to make that task a tad bit difficult.
Or Maybe Not…
Will Zahir realize that he has nothing to worry about when it comes to Winter? And will Winter realize that not all stories are fiction? Especially down in New Orleans?
Let’s find out.

First i thought the story was going to be about Winter and Akachi. But then I realized he was the younger brother and it was about Zahir. Hmmmm. How they are put together was interesting because of his brother not obeying the rules he had set. Fro there I was not sure what i was reading until the light bulb went off. These characters were build and i forgot the real purpose of the book. It was very good. Remember to pause when reading the book. I liked it.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
While this story has a bit of a slow start, it is definitely racing by the end. Zahir is a fascinating character. It’s fun reading such unusual and diverse characters. I’m anxiously waiting for the next book in the series.
This was a fantastic read. I loved the main characters Zahir ans Winny are wonderful. The other characters are so full of life I can’t wait to see what Nicole Renee does with them in the world of the serpent king. I loved this book. So well written it comes together with romance, steamy hot intimacy and action packed suspense. A must read for all paranormal romance readers.
First off I love a good paranormal story and this is one was a really good one. I haven’t read a good paranormal story in such a long time and I was kind of sure I won’t find one that held my interest for very long, but this one right here did that and more it had me wanting to know more and more, and I found that I couldn’t put it down no matter how hard I tried I wanted to know more and more. Great Job Nicole Renee can’t wait to see what you do next.
This book was fantastic! After moving to New Orleans, Winny is now the owner of Bayou Books. She’s made some new friends and settling in to her new life. Winny was such a kind soul. Zahir has the weight of the supernatural community on his shoulders to think about and worrying about what his brother is doing in the human community just adds to his list. I truly loved Zahir, I wasn’t sure if I was going to like him at first, but he was absolutely incredible. I loved the relationship that developed between him and Winny and their chemistry was palpable. This was an incredible story, with a few twists and turns, wonderful characters, and an amazing storyline, made for a page turning read.
This paranormal story was one fantastic read! The great character and plot development lured me right in from the very beginning and the chemistry between Winny and Zahir kept me turning the pages until the very end!
Winny left California for New Orleans. Although she knew no one here, she felt it was where she belonged. She opened her bookstore and settled into life. Although there was something missing, she just didn’t know what. Soon she made a friend and started hearing strange tales. Was there more out there that Winny knew nothing about?
