This volume contains all three books in the beloved Half-Pocalypse young … the beloved Half-Pocalypse young adult series, “Wilders.” This series follows the world through the outbreak of a blood based virus, and looks at how the world changes – and how humans adapt. Filled with strong, likeable female characters and the coolest cat in fiction – the Wilders trilogy will keep you on the edge of your seat.
The Change:
Partying too much, picking fights with her Mom… Holly’s senior year of high school has become a bit of a mess. She has no idea what she wants to do next year and she’s sick of the pressure to have a plan. When she’s shipped off to spend some time in Chicago with her Aunt Miranda, she starts to feel more like herself.
But, Holly’s about to have bigger problems. The world is on the brink of a viral outbreak that will change the way humans live for years to come. It begins in all the major cities. People are changing into crazed animals, impervious to pain. Nobody knows why.
Wilders:
The forest behind Renna’s home is dark and dense. It holds more secrets than she knows. Having grown up in the half-pocalypse, a world balancing against the tide of a blood-borne virus, Renna knows the rules by heart:
1) Stay inside between dusk and dawn.
2) Close and lock the copper and silver screens.
3) Report anyone suspected of infection immediately.
Now, at seventeen, Renna will have to survive against the rules.
– An unprecedented attack.
– A strange boy with copper eyes.
Can Renna survive the darkness to save the people she loves?
Consequences:
The virus is morphing and moving fast. Wilders aren’t following the three rules anymore. Nobody is safe.
Running low on supplies while waiting for a response from their plea for help, the camp in the Adirondak forest can’t wait any longer. Emerson is selected to lead a supply run on what should be a short trip into town. With the world sliding dangerously close to a full apocalypse, his team will have to make hazardous decisions.
Back in the camp, help arrives. But the form it takes is unexpected. Renna doesn’t know who to trust. Or how she’ll survive.
Bold choices always have consequences. Now it’s time to face them.
Praise for the Wilders series from Amazon Reviewers:
“The premise of this was incredible in of itself: An apocalypse that doesn’t exactly spell doom for humanity but also forces society to work around the threat of zombies. I can forgive the book for leaving me wanting more because a good book is supposed to evoke that sense of longing! Man, just the writing alone was endearing with characters that don’t have static traits but grow along with the situations and people that they find themselves with. The world isn’t thrown at you in long, drawn-out paragraphs, it’s delicately, subtly given to you organically just through dialogue and immediate locations. I. Need. More.”
“I love a well-written young adult novel, and this is certainly that. Brimming with well-formed, likable characters this quick read is fast-paced and highly imaginative. As with The Hunger Games, Cass Kim writes with great thought and details to the point you lose yourself in this half-pocalypse world. ”
“The three books of this series, The Change, Wilders, and Consequences make up one of my favorite YA trilogies. The author writes lively prose and the pages blur as they go past. I’ve always been particularly impressed with the depth and nuance of the characters in these books, the depth of the world, and the pace of the story.”

Cass Kim has turned into a very very good writer. This trilogy is the best way to read the stories. Ebooks are just that, stories, and when the story gets you involved with the characters then it is a great story. The Wilders is an original take on the Apocalypse as it is only the nite that the Wilders come out to play. Do your work before dark and you are safe. After dark and you better watch out. The final is the summation and it is really my favorite. If you love a good story then this trilogy is just right for you. The first book is the beginning of the wilder virus and the second and 3rd books are filled with finding a cure. There is love and fighting but mostly just good reading.
Zombies aren’t always the monsters you’ve read about. In the Wilders trilogy, Kim pulls an interesting twist on the zombie virus world. Instead of zombies appearing where zombies have never been a subject, Kim lands a fictional virus that spreads like *gasp* viruses in our world spread. Through her three novellas, Kim works an action story of how people might react to such a virus.
Note: I read this in August 2020 and can say that she really did predict human behavior on quite a bit of this.
The Change:
This novella is the backstory upfront for the Wilders world. This standalone works wonderfully for the first of the collection as it’s our world being tainted by Wilder virus. Holly is a typical teenager who heads off to Chicago to spend time with her aunt. While there, the world seems to be falling apart all around her, because, well, it is. A quick read that is engaging with the dystopian world that readers from 2020 can totally identify with!
Wilders:
This second book takes the reader more than a decade after the Wilder virus landed. Unlike the usual dystopian world, Kim’s version is one that has adapted to a level of normalcy. Adjustments by humans to avoid contracting the virus are well underway. But, as viruses do, there’s a mutation and it throws the Wilders world in for some complications. This story picks up with teenage Renna and her friends trying to deal with the latest outbreak and mutation. Along the way, they learn how big the world is and that there may be hope for stopping the virus yet.
Consequences:
The final installment picks up from the ending of the second book. Renna, along with new and old friends, discover that a cure for the Wilders virus is near. They just need a little more time and a little more support to reclaim their world with the promising vaccine. As they split the group, one for staying behind to work on the science and one for a much-needed supply run, complications arise yet again when another mutation outbreak strikes the nearby town and intruders masking as government help show up in their camp. Through all the chaos, Renna, Alyssa, and their cohorts fight to save the world. Or at least to give it a chance.
