Olivia Telford has helped me change my lifestyle through her writings on hygge. She shares with us a better way to live.
Olivia’s book is wonderful for those who suffer with seasonal depression and anxiety because of the wrong choices they have made during their lifetime. Using her techniques related to hygge she help you by promoting the aspect of hygge that enables inward health from physical healing to mental rejuvenation by reducing stress and anxiety you help your body heal from the damage that stress induces over time. Therefor, enabling the body to relax and heal. There is so much I have learned from her book. Reducing stress and anxieties promotes mental health and overflow of cortisol may cause depression and according to Olivia Telford, may cause migraine, fatigue, insomnia, and just a downward spiral in your health. She explains that the brain needs to stay balanced and is linked to your emotional health. Chemical imbalances can create swings in your mood that lead to anxiety and panic attacks. This is why hygge is so important in everyones life. Negative thoughts that are constant can be chanced by practicing hygge. “Treat yourself with kindness.” As Olivia explains, no one will come to your rescue. You have to make this positive change yourself. I encourage everyone to read this book. It is positively life changing.

I love the ideas of hygge and minimalism – they sound great and are firmly labeled “wouldn’t that be nice” in my mind – but the third time I’m told “you should —“ I lose interest. And motivation.
What is excellent about Olivia’s work is, not only is she an exceptionally intelligent writer, but she constantly shares real world examples and practical applications.
Yes, I can do hygge – a little here, a little there, starting small and recognizing the impact each tiny choice makes.
And yes, I can change little parts of my daily routine to start appreciating the concept of minimalism in my life.
I don’t have to throw my life out and start over, become a hygge evangelist, or live in a white cube. Olivia gives dozens of examples for each little change that can easily be made, and each tiny change will add to a stronger and more profound impact.
This was excellent.

Improve Your Life, Inside and Out
With this two-in-one bundle, I think I have now read all of Olivia Telford’s books, and I have to say that I thoroughly enjoy them. Her reflections on minimalism, mindfulness, and hygge make for a good read and are less judgmental than many books that I’ve read on these topics. I love the way she gently encourages the reader to a better way of life and living.
For those who aren’t familiar with the Danish concept of hygge, it is a hard one to explain because there is no direct correlation in English, as the author goes into some detail about in the book. It’s an all-encompassing way of living that focuses on feeling (not analysis), comfort, and coziness. You add to your life the simple things that support these principles, and you minimize or remove those that don’t. As you get rid of all the things that do not serve you in these ways, your life may in fact become more minimalist, which actually makes the two books in this bundle fit hand in glove.
Here’s my a full book review of The Art of Minimalism, one of the two books in this bundle.
I have read another book by this author on mindfulness, and in this book, she brings mindfulness to minimalism in a variety of ways. The book is roughly divided into thirds: generalities and mindset about minimalism, specific strategies for decluttering your physical environment, and ideas for decluttering your relationships, your thoughts, and your day. What I like about this book is that you can tell that the author walks the talk. She isn’t just cobbling together a variety of information from online sources and other books as happens far too often in nonfiction books these days. Instead, she shares personal stories and insights as well as tips that she herself has come up with. I particularly loved the section on how to naturally clean all the areas of your home after you’ve decluttered. I’m planning to implement some of those ideas very soon.
I have read several books on minimalism, but her approach draws you right in because she helps you understand your thinking about the excess of “stuff” in your life and the history of consumerism. Much of her advice is very detailed, like the specific recipes for natural cleansers and how to use the pomodoro technique in your decluttering. The book has some unusual topics for a book on minimalism, like affirmations and time management—and of course, the entire last section that is more about the mental aspects, like clearing toxic relationships and thoughts from your life and replacing those thoughts with more positive ones. It might seem from the outside like it’s an odd combination of ideas, but the ideas do work together to help support you in decluttering all aspects of your life.
I received a free copy of this bundle, but that did not affect my review.
I received an advance review copy of this book and chose to provide this review. Since it is two separate works, I’ll address each separately
Hygee – this is a very interesting life philosophy, Olivia Telford provides several examples of adopting a Hygee lifestyle and in fact it should be noted that you may already be observing some Hygee functions without knowing it. While I found the basics and explanations very useful, there are parts of the manuscript that felt a little on the order of a sales pitch to adopt Hygee to save the world. I can see why it is so successful in Denmark with a very homogenous society embracing this philosophy/practice – however I don’t see it being fully adopted by the heterogenous population of the world. I think I would have much preferred a prescriptive how-to description and had it left at that.
The Art of Minimalism – Once again this manuscript starts off with a very good discussion of minimalism and steps to take to incorporate it into your life. Had it only included the first six chapters I would have been well satisfied. There are a few suggestions on organization that while I can see being useful, I wonder if adding extra things is in keeping with minimizing your possessions and your living environment.
Although I’ve heard of “hygge” before, I needed this book to explain what it truly is and how to implement it in one’s life. “”If there is any one way to accurately sum up the implementation of hygge, it is this: turn it off, lay it down, and breathe it in.”” All good things. I marked & highlighted a lot of this book & intend to re-read it frequently as I learn to find hygge in my life.
ART of MINIMALISM
She starts by analyzing the causes of your clutter and results of eliminating it, then gives you simple practical methods to deal with it and maintain your new living space. Although I know of, and have used, many of her techniques, she lays them out as easily understandable actions with definite, achievable results. I will recommend both of these books frequently.
I like how in depth the book goes into trying to describe both Hygge and Minimalism. However, I found that many of the chapters were just reiterating the same information, just in a different way.

I thought the author did a good job at trying to teach the basics of hygge. She explains the reasons a person might choose to follow this path, and some easy ways to add hygge to your own life.

This review is of a two-book bundle. Hygge is a concept toward appreciating the comforts of life. By indulging in pleasant things, one can have a better balance in life. Appropriate enjoyment of whatever brings you joy and contentment can help lead a more content life. Hygge is an explanation and guide to this pathway. Although the concept of cozy seems to go better with winter snuggling around a warm fire with hot chocolate, actually it isn’t season dependent. Hygge can be lived year round by identifying little comforts that enhance daily living. These will be different for different people. For example, a social gathering with friends is more cozy for an extrovert, while an introvert may enjoy a peaceful walk in nature or lounging alone with a good book.
The Art of Minimalism complements this with step by step ideas for how to simplify life.
Both books are easy reads with interesting ideas. Hygge was new for me. The Art of Minimalism is a good introduction to these ideas if you have not already read a lot.

This was an easy read, full of practical tips. It was a great overview of and introduction to both topics for someone unfamiliar and just diving into the concepts. I enjoyed the history and background of Hygge. I liked that she expanded minimalism beyond just physical stuff with lots practical tips. Great quick start guide!

I got a lot of interesting things about life-style in 2 books. We can enjoy life and go-green, reduce stress and anxiety.
Positive-thinking, walk with small-steps and establish good habits during normal workings. Work with humans, not things and enjoy special times together during the seasons.

Scandi smarts
I have known and read about HYGGE for quite a while now. But, each time I read a book about it, I learn and pick up something new (though usually not just one thing each time).
Life can get so overwhelmingly busy and chaotic at times. I really feel like I need to do more to change my mindset about certain things, in order to change that pace to something slower and more manageable.
So, I’m desperately trying to embrace ‘less is more’. This book bundle gives many great hints and suggestions as to what to do, to begin the process of minimalising your life, and all the ‘stuff’ we have (and I know that I have way too much ‘stuff’). I truly believe that it can all help you to live a more relaxed and fulfilling life, both for yourself, and your family/friends.
I would definitely recommend that more people read about ‘hygge’, and consider how it can improve their lives, in so many ways!
