Making the correct decisions in life can be difficult, especially when past mistakes keep creeping into thoughts. With grandmothers who care and a stranger who helps during chaos, the main character learns there may be another path for her. I enjoyed this story. I received a complimentary copy of the book. No review was required.
My Thoughts on Touched by Fate:
This book is different than most that I’ve read. It’s about a woman embarking on a second marriage after number one wasn’t the happily ever after kind. You’ll feel and read about her emotions and preparations for the big day.
The part I loved the most was the unique culture. This culture is so different than mine and I love learning about other cultures. For Analyn this is the Afro-Filipino culture.
This is a short book, but it covers lots of ground and the characters are really engaging. It didn’t take long to read but I had hoped it would be longer. I’d definitely like to revisit some of the characters and see what comes next in their lives.
Short negative time. While the book was really good there are some curse words within it. I don’t normally read books with curse words. My normal policy is that if I come across more than one curse word within the first chapter then I stop reading. With review books, I give them a bit more leeway but I do note that hey this has some language so beware. This book without the language still would have made sense and been a great book!

This story was considerably short (about 50 pages) even for a novella. We were introduced to Analyn, her culture, and her family-especially her grandmothers. I did not like the language in the book and it was a definite turn off to future books by this author. (swear words and sexual innuendos/references)
Analyn struggles with doubts, wedding jitters and trying to control every detail as she prepares for her second wedding.
This short story made me think about my own struggles with controlling things, and learning to let things go and to trust in God instead.
I received a copy of this book complimentary for blog and social media review. All opinions are my own.
As a former perfectionist, this reviewer related all too well to Analyn’s need to control every detail of her wedding. I found it baffling and out of character, though, that just days before the event she was still wrangling details. The intrusion of her grandmothers was weird and off-putting; another thing this reader knows too well, though—overbearing-but-well-meaning family members.
It felt like I was outside the story looking in, rather than being part of the action; it was lacking depth and detail. And I would have liked to meet the groom, Corey, beyond just the mention of his name.
It was clear that Analyn’s perfectionist tendencies and her anxiety about embarking on a second marriage drove her every thought and action. Ms. Williams’ message was loosely embedded in the story—perfectionism and OCD tendencies are cruel taskmasters, and not at all God’s best for us. Ms. Williams illustrated this truth for Analyn and for the reader in her final scene.

Touched by Fate is the first short story I have read in awhile. It is much shorter than even a novella, but there was still plenty of time to develop a good story. I enjoyed learning about Analyn’s cultural background, and I thought her two grandmothers were a hoot. I thought Analyn’s journey, although sprinkled with embarrassment and heartache, was a beautiful one. I felt like the reader was able to get to know Analyn well, and I liked her more and more throughout the story. The end of the story is very poetic and worth a read.
I was disappointed in some rough language by the grandmothers and some sexual references that seemed out of place. I thought it distracted from otherwise colorful characters and an interesting story.
Overall, I thought the story was well-written with interesting characters. I was distracted by the language in one scene, but I would be willing to read more from this author in the future.
I was given a copy of this short story in exchange for my honest opinion. All opinions are my own.
I have a love/hate relationship with short stories. I love that I can squeeze in a quick read but what do you do when you’re left craving more? That’s exactly how I felt when I read Touched by Fate. The author did an incredible job of putting herself into this story and creating magnetic characters, especially the grandma’s. Those two are pure gold! Analyn is a character that I immediately identified with, and my heart went out to her and her plight.
I usually can’t wait to finish a book but with Touched by Fate I was sad to see it end so quickly, though I will say the end is incredibly satisfying. A nice, quick short story with depth is a rare gem and this novella is one of those baubles.

Although this was a short read, it was very well written, complete and enjoyable. I expected the story to go one, but it did the total opposite.

Got as arc member . Short story loved it
This is a sweet, yet thought provoking short story about a woman who wants to get things perfect for her second wedding. I loved how the author included her personal Afro-Filipina culture in the story, it gave the tale more nuance and richness. It is thought provoking because I think many women have been in the situation Analyn is in their lives–where we want so badly for something to work out that we ignore red flags. The supporting characters, especially the grandmas, really shine and I would love to see more of these characters in a full-length novel.
