The New World Order is at hand.Civilization has crumbled since the EMP thrust humanity back into the Stone Age, and dangerous factions now scavenge for scarce resources in this terrifying new world.Austin Merryman wonders what the future holds for his teenaged daughter, and if the madness surrounding them is even worth surviving. For now, the group is safe in his brother’s prepper house nestled … prepper house nestled in the Rockies. But the calm can’t last forever. With sixteen people crammed together in the tiny mountain home, tensions are bound to erupt. It doesn’t help that his brother’s lazy friend gets twisted pleasure from stirring up animosity, pitting brother against brother and daughter against father as battle lines are drawn.
But decisions about who stays and who goes are ripped from their hands as information on the USB drive lays bare pieces of the NWO’s plans. Austin realizes the horrifying truth of why he’s in their sights, as well as the danger he’s brought down on those he loves most. When tragedy again strikes the small group, it will be up to Austin to make the hard choices necessary to ensure their survival.
Until a dying man utters the single word that changes everything…
This novel contains violence and scenes with referenced substance abuse.

they have found safety but it may not last as they learn what is really on the usb stick. one of the group tries to cause trouble between brothers as well as father and daughter. He will need to decide what to do to keep. Then safe. Can he do what is needed? is there another way? See what will happen
Survival after the EMP shut down the world has taken an even more harrowing turn with the emergence of a radical group that pitts person against person, violence and destruction of the human race their seemingly only goal. The group of survivors that came together in the last installment set out to gather more supplies, hoping to scope out how bad things have gotten, how safe they really are up in the mountains. At the same time they are trying to decipher all the data on the drive hoping to figure out what they can do to about, or rather if they should do something about it. Things are definitely tense in the group, deception and cowardice creating life and death situations that might just destroy them all. I am definitely excited for the next installment.
As I loved Survive The Chaos, which was book one in this Small Town EMP series I was keeping an eye out for more of the series. The cover of this book fits well with that of the first book, which means that the series have a cohesive look. The genre is post-apocalyptic, which I have to admit is one of my favourite genres to read. There is a “trigger warning” about substance abuse, it is actually alcohol abuse and is only a small part of the book.
The book basically picks up where book one left off. There are some awkward questions and decisions that need to be made, some will be not be popular with the rest of the group but it becomes apparent that someone needs to take the lead and ask these questions. For the time being all sixteen people are safe at Ennis Merryman’s prepper ready house. However, with so many people staying in close proximity, including the revivalist party who originally only wanted to stay temporarily and then continue their journey to Salt Lake, their own home base. The house is seriously overcrowded which means people are starting to irritate each other as well as the food provisions are being reduced at a more rapid rate than they were ever meant to be. Broaching the subject is going to be difficult as though the house and supplies belong to Ennis it is his brother Austin that everyone seems to look at as a leader of the group. Within the revivalists, Tonya seems to be in charge though they are all looking to Malachi to lead the prayers etc stepping into his father shoes as he would have eventually been trained to do.
I have really become attached to some of the characters in this series so far. Savannah is still set on the possibilities of a relationship with Malachi and does things she comes to regret in an attempt to get his attention.
Nash is still one of my favourite characters and is staying at the house and still helping a lot around the place though sadly he seems to become more and more side lined by certain people in the house. Of course, my favourite couple in the book is Austin and Amanda, I hope they survive the series and end up together! A little romantic hope in a post-apocalyptic setting!
A character I thoroughly enjoyed disliking in the last book and became even more so in this book was Wendell. He doesn’t want to take part in any manual tasks and will only do “inventory” of the supplies they have. As time goes on it becomes apparent why he enjoys doing inventory when it is discovered he has been helping himself to large portions of the alcohol. It’s not just that he isn’t very practical, or a bit lazy, he goes out of his way to cause problems in this book, pitting brother against brother at every opportunity. Then when there’s a case of everyone making a stand, he goes away to hide with a bottle of alcohol.
There is the constant threat of the New Order searching for Austin and his family. They desperately want to retrieve the USB, and Austin is as desperate to find out what is on it! With help from Nash they try to decode it, and at one point, Austin has to go in search of a woman his friend Callum said would know what to do with the information.
Some of the revivalists, such as Tonya and Bonnie are still grieving for the loss of their husbands but all make a conscious decision to help out and create a life at Ennis’s house. Despite their religious beliefs they take part in self-defence, and weapons training. They all need to be prepared to fight to protect each other and what they have in the way of food etc.
There is much more to be revealed about the mine where Nash was when the power went out, as well as more to be learnt about the New Order. Sadly, it seems there are small bands of survivors who are often aggressive to outsiders. It seems the New Order are giving out propaganda encouraging survivors to distrust each other.
My immediate thoughts upon finishing the book were, Seriously, looking forward to more of this series!
Lost some brilliant characters in this part of the series!
Will those remaining survive? What is on the USB drive? Will the group ever find somewhere safe to settle? Will *?*?* and the New Order catch up to them?
So, to sum up I looooove this book, its characters and I am seriously looking forward to read more! Grace Hamilton is firmly on my favourite authors list!
Survive the Aftermath
Small Town EMP Book 2
Grace Hamilton
This is a great book. I love the series so far. Austin is great. I love his character. The mystery of the flash driver is finally revealed, and now you know why they will not stop coming for him. The drama just gets bigger with the personalities clashing. It is great. I can’t wait for the next book!!
This is a wonderfully written part two that shows just how this mixture of sixteen survivors with differing views and morals can easily cause conflict within their group. This is a fast-paced read full of action. I can’t wait for the next installment.

Survive the Aftermath is book two of the Small Town EMP series and this series just gets better and better. This author writes the best gripping and original “it could really happen” scenarios that are so believable it’s crazy scary. This is a well written story about a group of survivors trying to survive the aftermath. I look forward to reading the next book in this series.
The book is wonderful too but I absolutely love this author and her prepper stories. I love the characters in this series and now in book 2, I know them pretty well. This author tells her stories in such a way as to make you feel a part of the story and I am always drawn in, and compelled to keep reading. I highly recommend this series.

As sequels go, this was up there in the rarefied air of being better than the first book, in my honest opinion.
The survivors are an eclectic group and being so, their ideas, morals and views can be challenging to others which naturally leads to tensions, hostility and mistrust.
The flow of the story, through each of the characters, is wonderfully written in such a way as to be utterly believable.
The New World Order and their utterly evil leader, Zander, are equally as important to the story as are all the original characters.
This sequel is cleverly written to ensure the reader doesn’t lose any interest. Great fast-paced, action-packed chapters that pack a punch right up to the end.
Another five star read that delivers all that you could possibly want.
A very believable scenario of what could happen in the future. A power-hungry group bringing about a massive EMP to throw the world into chaos, then actively generating hate propaganda to turn survivors against each other. Survive the Aftermath continues the story of a group of survivors that came together in Survive the Chaos. There is plenty of action, drama and heartache as they try to avoid other survivors as well as the shadow group of bad guys that are hunting them. Whilst trying to survive in this new life, they are also trying to find a way to stop the evil before it is too late. Definitely worth reading.

I loved this book and the first one. The author is wonderful at writing scenarios I hadn’t thought of yet. Although I’ve read several of her books, this is really my favorite because of how unique and interesting it is. The characters are well developed and I loved following their story. It is now in my keeper folder in my kindle.
I received an advanced reader copy. I have no connection to the author other than as a reader. My opinion here is strictly my own and unbiased.
The end is no fun at all. Hiding is futile. Hope is waning. Are answers even worth finding?
Austin and Amanda struggle to keep their friends and family safe in a world gone insane. Death and danger are hunting them down. Literally. Will they find answers before it is too late? Will it make a difference?
Grace Hamilton hits another home run. Her band of heroes are battling the New World Order. Not an easy task. A USB may hold the secret to who is behind the end of civilization as they know it. And may help fix things. But even their close-knit group are at the breaking point.
I loved this sequel to Survive the Chaos. The stress of losing everything, of being hunted, of simply wanting to survive may be too much. Drama, hopelessness and death are everywhere, taking their toll. What will end first: hope, despair or their lives?
I had a good time with this book. After listening to the first book in the series, I was pretty eager to see what would happen next to Austin, Savannah and the rest of the group. This is a series that needs to be read in order since it is a continuation of the same overall story arc with each book building on the previous installment. I thought that this was a very well done installment.
This book had a bit of a different feel. The shock of the EMP has passed and the group has made it to a place that should be safe so their focus has shifted to learning to live together and be self-sufficient. This is a big group and they don’t necessarily blend together easily so just living together is going to take a lot of work. It was really quite interesting to hear the plans they were making on how to survive and sustain such a large group.
There was some excitement to keep things interesting as well. Most of the action occurred later in this book but I enjoyed the lead-up. It sometimes seems that this group just cannot catch a break. They have to try to figure out if the data they hold could make a difference and stop the group responsible for the EMP and they have to fight to stay safe. It seems like there is one challenge after another.
Maxwell Zener did a great job with this book. I think that he stayed really consistent with the character voices that he used in the two books in the series. This series has a really large cast of characters and I love how varied and unique each voice was. I thought that he added a lot of excitement and emotion into the reading.
I would recommend this book to fans of apocalypse stories. This was a very enjoyable addition to the series with a nice balance of action and emotional scenes. I look forward to reading more of this exciting series.
I received a review copy of this audiobook from the author/narrator via Audiobook Boom and have voluntarily left this review.
This is the second book in the small town emp series and you must read the first one before starting this.
Austin, Amanda , and Savannah are focused on the future and what that means for them, their group, and how the NEO is going to affect this. Amanda is by far the best character in the series and seems to bring out the best in her fellow survivors, working on planning, training, and defusing arguments.
While I do love the overall backstory and the ending of this book and the last book leave me wanting more, I find most of the chars decision-making to be so frustrating and just plain divine at times (except Amanda, she can do no wrong). To be fair they are human and sometimes make mistakes, it just felt most of these bad choices were brought about without any good motivation from the characters.
